Victor's life was planned from the moment he was identified as an Aasimar (5 minutes after he was born.) Once he was weaned, he was sent to live at the nearby temple and was trained in the arts of the Paladin. After he finished his training, he would go out into the world and do great things and become a hero.
At least, that was the plan his father had. One hiccup was that due to Victor's slow growth, Victor's niece's and nephew's kids would be starting their own families before Victor completed his training.
The biggest problem was that Victor didn't want to be a hero just for being a hero's sake. He wanted what came with being a hero. Namely, fame and fortune.
One thing Victor shared with his father is frustration at his slow growth, and the even slower rate in which he was trained. Victor took to sneaking out at night, looking for fun, where he fell in with the wrong sort of crowd. He killed his first human in a gang war, and soon led a small gang from the shadows, as he pretended to be the good little paladin trainee during the day.
However, every time a paladin that started after Victor graduated and was sent off on a mission, Victor's seething rage grew. He thought he deserved the glory others were getting, and silently cursed every graduate that let the building.
He finally snapped when, near the end of his training, a wanna-be overlord attacked a few hamlets on the Path River. Victor expected that he would finally be given the title of Paladin and sent to put down the upstart, but, once again, he was passed over for what would be the final time. He snuck out of the temple that night, and went to see the self-titled evil overlord Dagor Morthis. Once there, he told Dagor everything he knew of the temple's plans, and, with a bit of help from Dagor, shed the mantle of Paladin for the bloody gaunlet of the Antipaladin. He sealed the deal by assisting Dagor wipe out the temple-sent party, and joined Dagor's army afterwards (mostly because Dagor threatened to incinerate Victor if he didn't.)
