Vexelune Whisperbranch's seed sprouted from Glimmerbough, the most ancient mothertree in the Evergrove. While her innumerable siblings escaped on the wind to spread far and wide, Lune's seed lodged itself in one of Glimmerbough's knots, and she grew stouter than her lithe brethren, with stunted wings that were all but vestigial.

While Glimmerbough seemed to sense Lune's constant presence, she wasn't much of a conversationalist. Lune had resigned herself to a long, _boring_ life stuck in her mother's side. (I swear I didn't set out to copy Della Narn's backstory, but here we are.) Fortunately, the Traveling Academy of Cobyslarni, led by Headmistress Bofika Nemesan, happened upon Lune while on a field study of the Evergrove. Bofika herself freed Lune from her predicament and Lune agreed to travel with the Academy. What began as an adoptive mother-daughter relationship grew into a genuine friendship as Lune matured. Bofika, as one of the rare humans in the First World, fascinated Lune's developing mind; she developed a life-long obsession with the planar realms and meeting every possible sentient species she could.

Eventually, Lune's insatiable curiosity outgrew Bofika and the Traveling Academy's capacity to teach. Bofika, though reluctant to part with the creature that she had grown so fond of, made contact with her scholarly colleagues in Iadara and arranged for Vexelune to study among them. At this time, Kyonin was still strictly isolationist, so Lune was barred from moving about freely within the city; the scholarly types were very nice to her, and there was much to learn in the extensive libraries, but, after the freedom of the Traveling Academy, she couldn't help but feel like she had returned to confinement.

During her time in Iadara, she began to discover something unusual about herself: she could get people to do what she wanted. She had always thought she was just gregarious, but she had witnessed acolyte after acolyte denied access to the restricted areas of the libraries, while all she had to do to gain admittance was give the guards a look. She spent the next few months seeing how far she could push the ability, until one day she found herself loose on the streets of Iadara. She is certain the town guards--who seemed strangely resistant to her charms--would have killed her on the spot as a trespasser had another scholar not happened by at that moment, vouched for her, and escorted her back to her dormitory.

Her single terrible experience in the city proper cowed her, and so she stayed where she was supposed to, and she studied. She could have spent ten lifetimes in those libraries and not learned all they had to teach, but over time her wanderlust and desire to actually _meet_ and _experience_ these alien creatures and cultures became too much to bear. She had learned so many of the languages of the planes; she wanted to speak with actual oreads and psychopomps and daemons and archons, not dusty old (OLD) elves!

She didn't realize that she could probably just _ask_ to leave and would be escorted out of the city. And so she planned her escape. Over several months, she snuck or social engineeringed her way into various vaults to steal gear, scrolls, and magical items (and, of course, her favorite books). Then, on a moonless night, she gathered her things, snuck out to an alley between two dormitories, and willed her frail wings to take her up and out of the city. It took several attempts to get airborne, but she found that, once she got above the buildings, even her meager wingspan was able to catch the wind and carry her over the walls and into the wilderness beyond.

She didn't have a destination in mind, though she had overheard two acolytes talking about some Acadamae (they pronounced it subtly differently from the Academy she grew up with) in a city called Korvosa to the west. That sounded like as good a place to start as any, so she headed in that direction. Along the way, she made friends with those that were nice to her and fought or scared away those that were mean to her. She used her size to great advantage, stowing away on westward-bound caravans and sleeping in tree branches and barn roofs. After several long months on the road, she finally spotted the Korvosan walls in the distance. An excited pep entered her step as they slowly (_very_ slowly; her stride length was barely 12 inches) grew larger in her view.
