About Venator Medeis

Venator was, for the longest time, fascinated by magic. The ability to bend things to your will, wield destructive magical powers, summon creatures to fight for you, and even heal the injured. He studied the academic aspects of magic and even trained to use some minor magics himself, but the more he saw of magic and its wielders, the more he realized how terrible magic really was.

What is power if it isn't your own? What good is magic if you cannot defend yourself without it? Nothing and useless. There were too many flaws with magic, long casting times, precise somatic gestures, words of power that have to be phrased perfectly. Worst of all, what happens when the source of your magic runs dry?

A Witch's patron, a contract signed and sealed, but what are deals and contracts to powers capable of gifting such power? What would stop a patron from stripping the magic abilities from a wielder? What would a witch do if suddenly, they found themselves without power? And Clerics, begging their gods for magic and powers. What if their plea goes unanswered? Suddenly, your power in the world is gone and your helpless to even a simple bandit.

No, Venator would not use something else's power, he would not let his power be so easily taken. It was time to train in ways to show the wielders of magic the flaws, first hand. He would travel to the Monastery of Seven Forms to train his own body to be the source of his own power, no deals, no begging, his power would be his own.

While there, he read many texts regarding magic and the best ways to fight against it without using it against itself. He would learn to restrain and silence those that relied solely on magic in a fight. He asked the monks of the monastery to train him to master fighting styles dedicated to grabs, submissions, and chokeholds, determined to show the mages of the world the powers they call upon are nothing compared to the power you could train your own body to have.
