Background:
*rain drums outside the mouth of the odd cave entrance* Valius sits wet and cold just inside the entrance and huddles with his arms wrapped around him to keep warm. The storm was quick and caught him unaware as he searched for more clues into his father's death and the bastard responsible around Old Korsova. But now he was cold and hungry his meager possessions lay at his feet where he threw them down in disgust. But they were all he had left after losing both his parents. The "cave" was really some sort of old temple or home that was never truly finished, located in what was known as The Vaults. The entrance was an odd square shaped opening with swirling patterns cut into the stone. Those patterns continued on the smooth walls just inside but the cave only went about ten feet deep before it stopped in a rough wall. Apparently unfinished by whoever set out to carve it. And there was nothing inside to eat or burn to try and get warm, so Valius sat in misery thinking how did his life come to this... ...he came back from the hills near the Mindspin Mountains to find his mother crying, and soon he was crying with her. His father was found dead behind Earidissle's shop in The Shingles. Two days later Valius woke to find his mother gone and from then his life would never be the same. Valius remembers very little of the months after that day, they were so chaotic and he only remembers crying every night before falling asleep hungry, and hiding in abandoned buildings or out in the hills from Pharasmaian nuns and searching guards during the day. Finally both nun and guard gave up the searching and Valius was allowed to live in peace. His status as an orphaned urchin drew the attention of Gaedren Lamm and soon his one an unofficial 'Little Lamm' running the streets of Korsova with others like him. He always wanted to get away but he had nowhere to go. Then he found out about Gaedren's involvement with his fathers death. Gaedren had gotten his father hooked on Pesh and when Val's father couldn't afford to pay for it anymore he had him run a few odd jobs for him. It was during one of these jobs that Val's father died and the young man had to find out how and why. *sniff* *sniff* Valius snuffled as his nose started to run and caught the whiff of something repugnant. He looked around and saw only flat walls and small stones on the floor... wait. Moving towards the wall he noticed a dark coloration on the floor. As he approached the smell grew worse and could only be a dead carcass, but all that he saw was the spot on the floor near the wall, that might be dried blood, but where was the body? Valius looked around and noticed a small hole about waist high. He plucked a finger at the hole and found it to be some sort of switch, and suddenly the wall in front of him shot up into the ceiling. Jumping back in fright Valius watched as the body of a man, dead probably a week, fell at his feet. Ready to run out into the storm Valius stopped short when the crossbow on the man's back caught his eye. Two days later... Valius stood behind Earidissle's shop all of the dead man's gear in a sack at his feet and the handsomely crafted darkwood crossbow in his hands. He looked down at the spot where the body of his father was found, tears welling in his eyes. "I'm getting away from here. Once I sell all this I'm taking the money and heading to Biston or someplace better..." he started to say a little choked up. "And then what? Go from being an urchin here for being one there?" a high picthed male voice said from behind him. Valius turned to see the gnome Earidissle standing watching him, his arms crossed before him. "There's some old odd saying about. Having a copper today only feeds you today. But learn to feed yourself and never need a copper again." He eyes the weapon in Valius's hands approvingly. "I can teach you to use that and you would never need worry about going hungry again." Valius wiped at his eyes. "I would like that." And for the next five years Valius never went hungry again. He trained and became good friends with the gnome. Together they hunted and searched old ruins for more treasure though not really finding anything. Val was happier than he had been in a long time. But Gaedren Lamm was always a sore spot with the young man. The painful memories of losing his parents and the fact that the man was still out there doing this to others. One day he say half starving kids running in the streets from the guard, Val knew what they were up to and probably who they worked for. Then and there he decided it was time for Lamm to be brought to justice. For the past six months Valius has been wandering the town searching for news on Gaedren Lamm's whereabouts and finally he gets a lead... Personality:
Earidissle would say that Val is an enigma he can be happy one minute and then deathly serious the next. That the gnome has learned what subjects to avoid (like his parents or Lamm), he has also learned what subjects bring about Val's warm smile (archery and now girls).
Val is calm, serious, and loyal. he has learned to become focused on a target if he wishes to hit the mark and this lesson he has taken into everything he does. "At least his heart is always in the right place." Earidissle is known to say about Valius when he is "in a mood". APPEARANCE: Anyone taking notice of Valius will see a typical human youth of about nineteen. He has shaggy sandy brown hair, light blue eyes, and sharp features. Long limbs on his wiry build make him seem to tall for his age, though he is only six feet tall. His gear is in a pack, a mw crossbow at his side and he wears leathers and a travelers outfit. Add-Ons:
So you two know each other some what through Valius's adoptive dad, Earidissle the gnome. As Earidissle's life was that of trade and travel he had contacts all over the world. Some were close and others were loose affiliations but he always kept good standings with all he dealt with. Earidissle, with Valius in tow had made a number of caravan stops at different times on the skirts of the elven forests near Little Hollow where Marcus was undergoing his woodland training. The very first stop over was delayed by one of the gnomes wagons needing slight repairs and it was during this extended repair stop that Marcus and Valius met. On successive visits it always seemed that Marcus was running the forests near the trade route when ever the caravan would be passing and from this the mere acquaintance grew into a friendship. Then tragedy struck little hollow and as the only survivor, Marcus left his doomed clan home and set out to find his friends in Korvosa. He managed to track them down as was his way and was greeted warmly and given food and lodgings till he would feel able to move forward in his life. Marcus left Korvosa long before Valius in search of answers. Word had got back to Earidissle that Marcus had landed in Riddleport and when Valius' motivations to leave also pointed to Riddleport, everything just seemed to fall into place. Now here you both are, united again in your need to make some coin and pursue what drives you. |
