Hi everyone,

So I'm trying to do something pretty interesting in my current game and I have to prepare my character for a number of eventualities. I've been doing pretty good so far but I've reached an important snag: I can't manage to find any loophole that would allow me to retain an armour bonus while polymorphed into an elemental while using Elemental Body IV.

Now I know it's petty and kind of pushing it, but it's really the last piece of the puzzle that I need to be wholly satisfied with my build. So thanks in advance forums, do your thing!

So I was looking at the Chaos Domain recently and I noticed that the 9th level domain spell granted was Summon Monster IX.

Now usually this would be clean cut and straight forward, but the domain also specifies that the Summon Monster spell must be "chaos only" even though there are no CN creatures in the base Summon Monster IX choices.

How then should I proceed to use this domain correctly?

Hi all!

So another crazy question I have been looking into recently is a way to use a weapon while polymorphed into a form that melds my gear.

Obviously one of the simplest ways to solve this issue is to simply drop the desired item on the ground and then pick it up so that it doesn't meld with your body, but that always seemed not only annoying but also quite dull.

So recently I was looking into the Called magic weapon special ability which reads as follows:

"A called weapon can be teleported to the wielder’s hand as a swift action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity, even if the weapon is in the possession of another creature. This ability has a maximum range of 100 feet, and effects that block teleportation prevent the return of a called weapon. A called weapon must be in a creature’s possession for at least 24 hours for this ability to function"

So, would this allow me to essentially summon my weapon of choice from within myself or would it simply count as not existing at that point?

Also if anyone has another way to make something like what I'm looking for work, please share it!

Thanks in advance guys

So I'm thinking of making an interesting mix of these two classes because I wanted to try making a super tanky and protective character who functions as a support melee rather than a primary damage dealer.

After reading through both classes I arrived at a frustrating blockage: I can't determine whether the DR of both these classes stack.

Obviously I would rather they did, but leave your opinion and support on whether you would say yay or nay to this. Thanks to all in advance!

Hello all,

I am working on a campaign in which my players get to be evil for a change and, in one of the stages, they will have to infiltrate a party of aristocrats/nobles to perform an assassination or theft.

In this environment, one the challenges they will have to face are court mages who know security spells such as Detect Thoughts/Seek Thoughts. Since the people being targeted are not controlled by a DM it becomes more difficult to determine what exact thoughts are considered "surface".

So far, my idea would be:
- Surface thoughts are dependant on what is being undertaken in the moment
- If they attempt a any kind of Bluff/Sleight of Hand or other deceitful action it would affect the surface thoughts
- They could attempt some sort of check or do some kind of action to avoid being detected (maybe?)

I have thus come to you, rules community, to help me find a fair way of making this work out without being totally easy.

Hi all and thanks in advance for your help!

I have been looking at the monster feats recently, specifically the SLA metamagics, and happened to notice something interesting. Many sorcerer bloodline powers are SLAs and, as such, could qualify as a choice for such feats.

However, I hit a snag in many of the spell descriptions that would potentially invalidate this combination.

Empower Spell wrote:
The creature can only select a spell-like ability duplicating a spell with a level less than or equal to 1/2 its caster level (round down) – 2. For a summary, see Table: Empowered Spell-Like Abilities.

Here is a specific example of an ability I had in mind:

Stormborn Bloodline wrote:
Thunderbolt (Sp): At 9th level, you can command a stroke of lightning to strike from above in a 5-foot-radius cylinder 60 feet high. The thunderbolt inflicts 1d6 points of damage per sorcerer level; half of this damage is electricity and half is sonic. A Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier) halves this damage. Creatures failing their saves are deafened for 1 round. At 9th level, you can use this ability once per day, at 17th twice per day, and at 20th three times per day. This power has a range of 120 feet.

My questions are thus:

1) Would this limit the application of this feat to spells that duplicate a specific spell or could it be used on abilities that also happen to be a spell-like ability such as Thunderbolt?
2) If these feats do work, what would be the effective spell level of these abilities to determine at what level you qualify to take the feat?

In my mind it would work, since Thunderbolt is essentially similar in power to Chain Lightning (i.e max of 20d6 damage normally) and as such would count as a 6th level spell for the purpose of these feats.

What are your thoughts?

Hello all!

I was browsing the Psychic class recently and I came across their ability know as Phrenic Amplifications. One amplification in particular caught my eye, Focused Force, and it reads as such

"When casting a force spell, the psychic can increase the spell's damage by spending 1 point from her phrenic pool. Increase the die size for the spell's damage by one step."

With this reading, I was wondering if using a spell-like ability with the force descriptor would count as casting a force spell or if I had to use an actual spell from a spell slot?

On a related note, could I use a spell from a wand and increase it using this Phrenic Amplification?

Thanks for your input

Hello all!

So I am designing a high level campaign for my players and I have recently hit a snag. I was wondering if, when you dispel magical effects with Greater Dispel Magic WHILE using stealth:

1) Your position was revealed OR you must make another stealth check
2) The target of the spell became aware of the dispelling of his spell effects

Thanks for the help guys.

Hello all!

So I am currently working on an epic level campaign and was trying to create an enemy concept that I had been dabbling with for YEARS! However, I cold not adequately create this being with existing class levels and templates and as such had to make one myself. As such, I would like to submit my creation for review by the advice board community, any and all constructive criticism and comments are welcome.

Keep in mind it is a +3 CR modifier and I used the Dread Vampire template to get an idea of how much power such a template granted.

CHAIN BOUND
Some servitors of evil are so infatuated by their thirst for power and dominion that they will turn to otherworldly beings to increase their own strengths. Some decide to serve demonic masters, others pray to their heretical gods. However, some choose a completely different, yet no less dangerous path: that of being inhabited by an alien intelligence. In the case of chain bound creatures, they have become the unwitting servant to Volg’Arath, the Eternal Chain and see their very physiology changed by the intrusion of this mysterious being in their bodies. Volg’Arath has a particular preference for hosts who have levels in Antipaladin and Umbral Agent and strongly influences any creature it possesses to pursue training in these fields.

CR: same as base creature +3
Alignment: Any evil
Type: The creature’s type remains the same
Senses: A chain bound creature gains blindsight 60ft. and the See in Darkness Universal Monster Special Ability
Armour Class: +10 bonus to natural armour
Hit Dice: do not change any of the base creature’s racial HD
Defensive Abilities: a chain bound creature has fast healing 10, DR 10/-, resistance to fire 10, acid 10, cold 10, electricity 10 and sonic 10 as well as Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms), bleed, death effects, disease, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.

Special Attacks
Deadly Chains: A chain bound creature may manifest spiked chains from any part of their bodies to make attacks with. They count as wielding a weapon at all times.

The chains they manifest count as a Large +5 Unholy Vicious Conductive Grayflame Spiked Chain that threatens a critical hit on a 15-20 with a x2 multiplier

These chains can be used as melee weapons with a reach of 15 feat or as ranged weapons with a range of 200ft.

Special Qualities
Inescapable Grasp: any creature grappled by a chain bound creature has any freedom of movement or similar effects negated. Grappled creatures are also subject to the effects of a dimensional anchor spell. Chain bound creatures may grapple even incorporeal beings.

Animated Chains: a chain bound creature can maintain multiple grapples at the same time and does not need to spend any actions to maintain a grapple as the chains provided by Volg’Arath maintain them of their own accord. Chain bound creatures must still roll every round to maintain the grapple(s).

Abilities: Str +6, Dex +6, Con +6, Int +6, Wis +6, Cha +6
Feats: Alertness, Greater Grapple, Improved Grapple, Improved Initiative, Improved Unarmed Strike
Skils: +10 racial bonus to Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate, Perception and Stealth

Hi all

I am making a bard build in which my DM allows me upgrade my chosen instrument as though it were a rod.

Since it is a two handed instrument, I was wondering if it was possible to make a single rod that included the abilities of multiple rods in it (ex: 1 rod of quicken and concussive spell)

Alternatively, is there an efficient way to switch between my instrument and other rods?

Thanks

Hi all!

I am beginning a mythic campaign with a new dm and I am relatively new to the whole mythic system. I have decided to be a marshall for my team as it fits both my character flavour and an important role in the group.

However, I also would like to be able to craft the teams items and the easiest way I have found to get the required feats is through the Archmage's Crafting Mastery path ability.

As such, I was wondering if there was any possible way for me to get this mythic path ability without having to resort to asking my DM for a homerule?

Hi all.

I got in to a debate with a fellow Pathfinder enthusiast and friend of mine over certain character builds and we came upon a snag which I can't seem to get a clear answer to.

Suppose an 12th level Magus had a scroll of Dance of a Thousand Cuts he wanted to use, what would he have to do?

My understanding was:
1. Emulate the ability score required to cast the spell
2. Use scroll UMD check
3. Caster level check

And as a follow up question, what is a Caster Level check and what are the bonuses on said check?

So I was reading a thread earlier about whether a Wizard using an arcane bonded staff would be able to use a rod in any way without transforming to gain an extra arm or some other method requiring the use of magic or supernatural abilities.

In this thread, one person mentioned using Sovereign Glue to combine a staff and rod together into a "permanent union". In this way it would be possible to utilize a staff and rod together in the same hand.

What are your thoughts on the subject and do you have any other ideas to accomplish such a thing?

Don't Look!:

Dario Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Ranak Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Jesal Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Alabaster Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Isaac Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Edward Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Jesal Kn Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Each of you had spent a long boisterous night of drinking, gambling and singing in the Formidably Maid the night before, enjoying the pleasurable sins that Port Peril had to offer before passing out on the pub's floor or wherever you managed to go before the darkness came over you.

You awake the next morning in the dark hold of an unknown ship, all your equipment having been stripped from you. Your heads aching as if you had been knocked out by an angry orc, your mouths dry and pasty from the cheap drink and a sickly feeling in your stomach from the mix of alcohol and the rocking of the ship. The strong scent of salty sea and the stench of sweat assault your nose as you come too.

Dario, Ranak, Alabaster and Isaac also discern the oily taste of nutmeg in their mouths while Jesal recognizes it to be a result of taggit oil poisoning.

While you try to rise, you hear the sound of heavy footfalls of multiple people coming down the stairs. A few moments later a large man with a wide evil smile and six cronies come through the entrance. The lead man cracks his whip as he speaks to you

"Still abed with the sun over the yardarm? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!"

He glares down menacingly at you while he waits for you to respond

All of you make an intelligence check
