About Utan "Hoppy" Wortmuddler

Utan's birth name is Utan Nidantan Kipon. His nickname growing up was Hoppy due to his habit of skipping when excited. Within the church of Cayden Cailean he was given the name Wortmuddler after an unfortunate brewing accident.

Utan's hair is bright orange, kept short, and usually disheveled. He keeps his face shaved. Utan appears to have deep blue sapphires instead of regular eyes. However, he seems able to be able to see well -- at least at close range. His fingers are usually stained black from ink. Utan's hobbies include decrypting esoteric texts, translating bawdy poetry, and drinking fine ale. His primary source of income is a caravan that sells beer and mead to the fine inns of Andoran.

Utan grew up in Absalom, the son of scriveners. From his parents, Utan picked up his love of languages and the written word. As a child, Utan learned of the Pathfinder Society when members of the society would come by his parents' shop to have works translated. Utan became obsessed with their adventures and vowed to join their ranks.

As a young adult, Utan's love of beer brought him into contact with Cayden's Hall. It was here that Utan found his calling. Highly skilled at drinking games and scrappy, even for a gnome, Utan was declared blessed by Cayden. He took orders and has served the god of drink ever since.

The Church approved of Utan's desire to become a Pathfinder and introduced Utan to members of the Andoran faction. Utan felt himself a kindred spirit. After training with Andoran agents, Utan presented himself at the Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society, took his vows, and began the three years of training.

Since joining, Utan has infiltrated Irrisen, the Hellknights, Rahadoun, and even been inducted into the Kellid Snowmask Tribe. Utan often masks his missions for the Pathfinder Society (and Andoran) under the guise of a holy pilgrimage -- a sacred pub crawl of the various taverns, pubs, ale houses, inns, breweries, and common houses of Golarion.

When on "pilgrimage" Utan can typically be found in mithril full plate mail under a plain brown tabard wih the golden mug of Cayden Cailean on it. He wears a rapier on his hip and carries two great flails on his back, strapped to his backpack.

For his hard work on behalf of Andoran, Utan was promoted to the rank of Knight Captain. Recently, after assisting the Decimvirate with a mysterious mission, Utan was also promoted within the Pathfinders to Venture Captain at large. He spends a lot of his time now treating the diseases and ailments of adventuring pathfinders.
