I can't find a listing for Scenario 9-12 or 9-13 when trying to report an event. I waited a week hoping the system would be updated, but nothing so far. Figured I should let somebody know.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Okay,

I've looked through the archives and haven't found an answer; so let me toss this out to the masses.

I have a player that purchased an item with prestige; then upgraded it with gold. He would now like to sell the item to get something better. He knows that the prestige value is zero, and isn't worried about that.

The question is, since he spent gold on it, can he sell the item for half the gold value he spent on it?

Having checked the current Guild Guide, page 22 says that items bought with prestige have a value of 0 and cannot be sold. But they say nothing of items upgraded. So does his item still have a value of 0 even though he spent 2000 gold or more on it for a +1 armor bonus? And is the item still unsellable per page 22 of the Guild Guide?

I am inclined to say that by RAW, the item is still unsellable. This stinks for the player, but it is what it is. However, I don't think that was the original intent of the rule. Now, we all know that RAW rules in Society, so at the moment I'm sticking with no as the answer to his question, but I thought this one was important enough to bring to the experts.

8-22 and 8-23 have not dropped to my download pages yet. I'm a VA and I'm supposed to run 8-22 this Sunday. Can somebody check that out for me please? Thanks.

Shadow Lodge

I have been unable to edit the events that I have set up in order to add new scenarios to the event. The problem has now been going on for a full week and is preventing me from reporting PFS events. Has anybody else reported this problem, and is there a fix in the works?

Shadow Lodge

I did not receive access to 8-15 and 8-16 as a Venture Agent this month. Can somebody check into that please? I'm supposed to run 8-16 this Sunday. Thank you.

Okay, so my new group is 3 women and 1 guy that is running Burnt Offerings for another group; so he's very aware of Shayless. This particular group is a bit more rural conservative than my usual group, so having Shayless hit on one of the girls runs a serious risk of uncomfortable ire. I plan to avoid that, and political discussion, with this group.

Having been warned in advance I have decided to transform Shayless into Shamus, who will be a big, broad shouldered, strapping young stud of a guy in the image of Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), but with a personality more in line with Gildery Lockhart (HP - Chamber of Secrets). He will of course consider himself quite the ladies man, and I've got time to work this all into the party's introduction to Sandpoint. I ran them through the Beginner's Box last month, and this month will be running the Swallowtail Festival. I plan to use the festival to introduce many of the NPCs before the goblins show up.

Anybody have any good ideas I can use for Shamus as I introduce him to the party before the goblin fight. Afterwards he will brag about how many goblins he managed to kill/drive off, but won't be around during the Forxglove rescue, and will always have to cover for his father at the store when the party is doing anything dangerous. The Shayless personality is so well known with regards to Burnt Offerings but I haven't seen any posts on gender swapping Shayless so I'll take any ideas I can get.

As for our one male player, to keep him on his toes I think the Averton twins will both take an interest in him behind each other's backs. It will take me a little practice to get their separate personalities down, and I'll keep it secret as long as I can that he's being courted heavily by both twins in a kind of competition. I would love some input here too. I have no idea how competitive twins might get in a situation like this.

I'm getting ready to start running RotRL. I'm also currently playing in two RotRL games in book 4 and book 3. Fairly familiar with the material.

One of my players is also starting a RotRL game for an on-line group, as the GM. So he's moderately familiar with the material. So I'm looking for little change ups that will throw him for a bit of a loop without disrupting the actual story line.

The Amazing flipping Kaijitsus:

The first one I've come up with is to flip the motivations and roles of Lonjiku and Tsuto without really changing their family backgrounds or origins. Lonjiku will be the villainous co-conspirator of Nualia's team and Tsuto is really trying to get his sister's help stopping their father when he stumbles onto what is going on. He doesn't trust the heroes though, because they didn't get along as children (I have at least one local PC, and it's the one that is starting to GM the other game so I can play up bad feelings between them in childhood). The encounter between Ameiko and Lonjiku should still work too, since this Lonjiku still wants control of his daughter.

In this idea, it will be Tsuto that is found encased in glass, Lonjiku who is sneaking the goblins into the city, kidnapping Ameiko, and trying to escape to Thistletop when the PCs catch up to him. With this change in dynamic I will likely make Orik into Nualia's sick love interest (changes the notes found in the Glassworks, but I can cope with that) and Lyrie a slightly more sympathetic character who pines for Orik who she can't have. But those are minor edits.

What I would like help with is making Lonjiku into a threat comparable to what Tsuto normally is. But different enough to stand out to the one player who will notice. Tsuto is normally a Monk 2/Rogue 2. I'm thinking something like Ronin Samurai 2/Ninja 2 for Lonjiku; but am open to advice. What do all of you think? We play session zero this Saturday, and will be playing once a month, so I have some time.

I just received this little gem in my in-box from an impressive young lady I met while GMing at Gen Con last summer. This is the message Katana posted to one of their school's club forums.

Katana wrote:

Hi!

My name is Katana XXXXX and I am the founder of XXXXX High School's table top game club in XXXXX. Last Thursday (March 31st) we had 3 amazing GMs come in and teach how to play 17 people Pathfinder. I came in contact with our local Venture Lieutenant, David Frahm, through a extremely help full Pathfinder GM that I met at Gen Con, Daniel G. Knipfer (The Usual Suspect). Through numerous emails over this past month David helped me find 2 amazing GMs, Jay Sigler and Sam King, as well as helped us choose and prepare a campaign from the beginner box. Last week our club held our Pathfinder event (March 31) and it went extremely well. David, Jay, and Sam ran 3 groups filled with entirely people that had never played Pathfinder, or for that matter a RPG, before. They handled the high schoolers extremely well and were excellent teachers. The next day I asked kids from other groups how their session went which caused a flood of stories to fall from their mouths. Needless to say they all had an amazing time and I expecting a ton of requests for another Pathfinder day.

To thank these amazing men for all of their help we posted bios about them on our website in our Guest Gamer section:

While I don't think this is enough to express our gratitude I do hope they can truly understand what an impact they've made on these kids.

I just wanted to let you know that you have some amazing people working for you! Keep up the flawless work

Katana

Katana was at my table along with 3 friends and 2 parents for True Dragons of Absamom. They were absolutely a laugh riot to GM for. I have never had so much fun running a table at a convention. The fact that it was 4 teenage girls and 2 of their fathers made it all the more amazing. I so rarely see that many highly enthusiastic female gamers in one group, even at conventions. Thank you Katana for making Gen Con so much fun for all of us GMs.

The Exchange

Okay, so I'm in a Runelords game and the GM allowed me to take the leadership feat. My character is a sorcerer/oracle (6/3) working toward an eldritch knight build and my cohort is a bard (7) now. The GM built her and she is awesome. At the moment I have a high enough leadership score that I could back-stab my current companion and the next three, and I'd still have a cohort of max possible level till about 15th level. I'm a charisma build, enough said.

Well one of the other players wants to take leadership now. The problem is, he wants to divert equipment into making it possible for him to do so (and it really doesn't help him much if at all). We picked up a headband of alluring charisma; which I thought would go to my cohort as I already have one; being as she's a bard and it will boost her casting abilities nicely. But the ranger with a 9 (possibly lower) charisma wants it so he can take leadership and bring an npc witch that he and the GM co-opted from a story in Wayfinder (the Tickwood Hag/witch Melissa) as his girlfriend. She's been part of the background story in the game for a while but now he wants to bring her along with the party instead of her just being a background character.

The problem is that we're just leveling up to 9th level and with his penalty and his having an animal companion his modified leadership score is at most a 7. With the headband it is at most an 8. In both cases this gives him a max level for his cohort of 5th level. The cohort would be a walking corps just waiting to happen with at most 30 HP.

Now, his character already has a wolf as an animal companion, so he's not getting overshadowed in the game by action economy. Heck, he's a two weapon ranger with giant as a favored enemy and we just cruised through Fort Ranick with him acting like a human lawnmower. He's getting lots of opportunity to shine; he just has it in his head that we need another healer/support caster so that we can keep going forward a few more combats before we need to rest.

Now, to show exactly how crazy that is; we have 6 players. Yep, with animal companions and cohorts we're a party of 8. We're a walking army but the GM already let everybody know that if they want he will allow any (and possibly all) players to take the leadership feat. Most games the GM won't let anybody take leadership; but our GM is willing to allow everybody to give it a go if they want. Crazy, I know. Here is our party composition;

Ranger 9 (no spells, boost to animal companion)
Wolf companion (8HD)
Barbarian 9
Paladin 9
Rogue 9 (noble drow; don't ask cause it's too silly)
Alchemist/Witch/Tattoo Mystic 4/4/1 (Its an unusual build, I know)
Sorcerer/Oracle 6/3 (magical knack gives me a CL of 8 as a sorcerer)
Bard 7

Yeah, we lack a full cleric but with a paladin, an alchemist/witch, a low level oracle, and a bard we are not hurting for healing at all. We've also got lots of bang in the magic department and a witch already in the party. But our ranger just fell in love with the idea that he can bring his character's girlfriend along even though it has been pointed out that she's probably going to die the first time she fails a save against a fireball.

I am banging my head on the desk in frustration because I don't want to get into a fight over this. If the paladin wanted to take leadership that would be cool, cause she has a leadership score that at least lets her bring a survivable friend to the fight. Even the rogue has a positive charisma mod and could bring a useful companion. But no, it's one of the characters with a charisma penalty that wants to take a charisma driven feat. GAHHHHHHH!!!! (Bangs head on desk again.)

I don't have an actual question here. Just venting. But if one of you great masters of subtle manipulation come up with something I can use to talk sense into our ranger; please share.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around this. Bloodragers get full caster level (I got that), so how does this affect their use of magic items? Can a first level bloodrager use a wand if the spell is on his spell list; or does he have to wait until he can cast spells at 4th level? In effect, is a 1st level bloodrager a CL1 caster with no spells? Or does a bloodrager go from CL0 to CL4 when he makes 4th level?

I think it is CL0 to CL4 at 4th level, but I want to make sure since I'm building a bloodrager for Society play. So I need a by RAW answer please.

Shadow Lodge

My buddy and I are building characters to work together in Society play. He's building a Hunter and will probably have a big cat as his animal companion. Help me build a good strong blood rager to work with a hunter. First level initial build, but with progression planned out.

I've been thinking of going with Abyssal blood line, but I'm not sure so all suggestions are welcome.

My tiefling abysal sorcerer is leveling up to ninth level. Any good advice for new spells? I gain a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th level spell and pick up stoneskin as a bloodline spell. Here is Myrlan's current spell casting list;

Spells: ∞/8/8/7/4 Base DC: 17
0 - Acid Splash (c), Detect Magic, Disrupt Undead, Ghost Sound, Message, Open/Close, Prestidigitation, Resistance
1 - Cause Fear*, Ray of Enfeeblement, Shield, Shocking Grasp, Snapdragon Fireworks, Vanish
2 - Bull's Strength*, Acid Arrow (c), Scorching Ray, Summon Monster II (c)
3 - Haste, Rage*, Summon Monster III** (c)
4 - Summon Monster IV (c)

Myrlan's usual tactics are to vanish in the first round then buff players or summon combat support. I could use some good advice for spells to boost PCs and summoned creatures. I do have Spell Focus Conjuration and Augment Summoning as feats; and will probably take Superior Summoning this level.

My character is wearing a medallion that places me under the effect of a Gentile Repose spell if I die. Yes, I just died. The medallion's effect starts instantly so the question I have is; does the fact that time under the Gentile Repose does not count for the limits on getting my character raised from the dead count for the purposes of a Breath of Life spell which must be cast within one round of death if used to bring somebody back to life?

I'm iffy on whether this works or not, but want to give it to my party as an option. Otherwise I'm going to subtly hint that they try a reincarnation since they have easier access to a 7th level druid than a 9th level cleric. We have more than enough cash in the party fund for Raise Dead, but I'd rather not be out of action for two weeks of in game time (though would do it if I can save everybody a few thousand in reincarnation and restoration costs). My spellcaster is at -12 HP right now, so if the Gentile Repose does make it possible for a Breath of Life spell to work at a later time I'm back on my feat as myself. Otherwise we get to have fun making a reincarnation table for native outsiders.

Don't know if this has come up before, but I feel like bringing it up now. What are some of the spells in Pathfinder that you find less than useful; or just dislike? You have to explain why.

I really dislike Enlarge. Why? Because you're trading a -2 to your AC and a -1 to reflex saves for a paltry +1 to damage and a little extra carrying capacity.

Some people will say, "What? No way!" But the +2 to Strength from changing size is countered by a -1 to hit for your new size and the -1 to AC for changing size stacks with the -1 to AC when you apply the -2 to your Dex. So it really is a +1 to damage for a -2 to AC. And you don't want to get surrounded if you're a large creature now. A whole lot more creatures can attack you when you're large.

What spells do you really dislike?

So Hero Forge finally went public on their web site. You can not order your custom game figures if you bought into the Kick Starter last spring and order all the other custom figures you want.

Has anybody done so yet? What's the quality like if you have? I'm really curious as to how good their products are.

Edit: For those that do not know about them their web site is heroforge.com

Considering how much I have written for our Runelords game as a player, and how much a couple of the other players have liked it, I thought I'd share. I will tuck into spoiler tags to keep the page reasonable and to keep the secrets. Most of my writing starts from the point of view of Qakisst, obviously, so I will start with his origin stories.

Yeah, I said it. Stories.

I'm stuck playing with game groups that are not necessarily comfortable with being open about sexual identity. Am wondering if there are any groups in my area where all the players are completely comfortable with the LGBT community.

Hey everybody. I need a little advice as a player. In our party we have a rogue that takes everything personally and sees everything as a challenge. He just happens to also be careless as all hell. Yeah, don't ask me why he always wants to play a rogue.

Anyway, here's the situation. My character bought a small cottage in Sandpoint (Rise of the Runelords) and the party every so often stores stuff in the cottage. Everybody else stays at the Rusty Dragon or with family (yeah, 1 PC has family). I paid for the reinforced upgrade and installed superior locks on the doors (DC40) so it actually takes a concerted effort to break in. It's not impossible though but what place is. Our party rogue takes it as a personal offense that I am not letting him rig my house with traps and whatnot, and that he couldn't get into the house without asking me for the key.

So the rogue has maxed out his open locks skills (not a bad thing really) and is now bragging that he doesn't need a key. My estimate of his Disable Devise skill has him at an upward potential of 21, so yes, it is possible he can get in without the key. But I know my GM is an evil blighter (and I love him for it). The rogue is going to break in some time just to prove he can and forget to lock the damned door when he leaves. I can smell it coming. And all my well earned booty is going to get stolen; if not by our party's rogue just trying to get one over on me then by somebody else.

So the first step I'll be taking is casting arcane lock on both doors to jump the lock DC to 50. But that just delays the inevitable. Eventually Freaky Sneaky is going to break in just to prove he can (at about 10th level for sure) and then leave the doors open because, if I'm honest, he's a clueless twit at times. Good guy, okay player, but thoughtlessly clueless most of the time about what the GM will do to us.

So, what are some good ways to up the DC more on the locks and to rig some non-lethal but terribly embarrassing traps for my fellow party member. I don't want to get into any lethal player vs. player stuff; but I need to make breaking into the cottage undetected annoying enough to discourage attempts, and I am limited to being a player. I don't just get to jack up the DC if I don't want him to break in and setting lethal traps would be uncool. I know I can't stop him indefinitely; I just want to make it enough of a pain in the butt that our party rogue will no longer find it worth his time. Any thoughts?

In the rush between events and after events I did not see this written on my chronicle sheet until I got home from Gen Con. Thought I should say thanks. Written near the bottom of the sheet in the DM's handwriting it says, "Impressive Performance." I can only imagine that this is for my tiefling sorcerer kissing the dwarven smith and saying, "Hi honey, I'm home!"

Thank you Capt LeDon Sweeney of Iowa City.

The next time I am at my parents I shall attempt to visit the Iowa City lodge.

I have to share this. It was too awesome.

Okay, so with summer winding down and my son's Pathfinder game winding down before he goes off to college for the first time I thought I would treat his group to a little fun. I pulled out We be Goblins! and ran the boys through it to introduce them all to the Pathfinder Society.

They had a blast and loved the scenario; but I think my son broke it. He picked Poog to play, the cleric of Zarongel. Now as most people that have played WBG know, Poog has the worst ride checks of all the goblins. So what does Poog do? He wins the Ride Squealy Norg game; just to serve his god. Good job Poog.

Then, after all the goblin heroes have won all the goblin games and gathered all the equipment that Chief Gutwad will give them the 5 players head off into the swamps on their mission. Since we have an extra player the boys decide to play with a second Chuffy; the two Chuffy players call themselves the Chuff brothers.

As the party is wandering through the swamps arguing about the best way to the X on the map they wander into the layer of Lotslegs Eats Goblin Babies Many. The Chuff brothers spot the spider trying to sneak up on them and duck into the brush to hide. Rita Bigbad, remembering what the chief told them, turns and runs back out of the layer. Poog examines navel lint as Lotslegs sneaks down to try to ambush the remaining PCs. Just before Lotslegs can attack, the Chuff brothers jump out and try to stab her (missing horribly) and Lotslegs tries to snatch Poog up.

Lotslegs does succeed in hitting Poog, who saves vs the poison. Poog them does something I don't think I have ever seen in a PFS event. He jumps up excitedly and begins to talk to the spider. Yep, Poog can talk to animals, and he decides to try and befriend the spider. After much negotiating, cajoling, and pickled hafling toes Poog is riding his new best friend to find fireworks and take over the Licktoad tribe.

The boys want to keep playing these character. Next week, We Be Goblins Too. (They're kind of sad that they can't keep the spider; but I'm sure that they will love the owlbear eggs.)

Is Channel Energy a spell like effect and if it is, is it affected by Spell Resistance?

Or is it a supernatural effect and not subject to Spell Resistance?

Thoughts on whether this is even possible. Could an Alchemist become a Tattooed Mystic?

The default answer would of course be no, since Alchemists don't actually cast spells. But would it be reasonable though to treat an Alchemist's extracts as spells for the purpose of this prestige class? Obviously the Mystic's +1 level of spellcasting class would become +1 level of achemy class for creating of extracts. Not sure whether bombs and mutagens should be affected.

Thoughts?

Bizarre question #3.8 billion;

If I get a Ring of Revelations (Skill at Arms) and use UMD to activate the ring, would my 6th level arcane caster qualify for the Eldritch Knight (EK) prestige class?

While the ring is activated my character would be proficient in all martial weapons (which is the needed requirement for EK), but even with the 10,000 GP cost of a Ring of Revelations this feels a little out there. Obviously, any bonus feats that require weapon proficiency would only function when the ring is activated, but spell casting abilities likely would not be affected by not having the ring's powers activated.

It seems like there's some interesting role playing ops in this idea, but would it actually work?

Note: this is a thought exercise more than anything. I already have my path to Eldritch Knight worked out, but stumbled over this item last night and it made me go, "Hrmmmmmm?"

Shadow Lodge

The assimar alternate racial trait, Scion of Humanity, would seem to be appropriate for any of the native outsider races featured in the Advanced Race Guide. Is there a particular game balance reason that this was limited to aasimar and not made available to the other native outsider races? This doesn’t seem to be an overly powerful trait, but there are often reasons for certain rules that are not obvious to players.

Shadow Lodge

I went to submit an order and noted that the bundle has the same cost as the campaign path so I ordered the bundle. Went to check out and the check out process informed me that I'd be charged for my bundle now, and for all my other print products when they ship. But I didn't order any PDFs with this order. At least I didn't think I had. Are the bundles PDF only, or do the bundles come with free PDFs? If they're PDF only then I'll order the individual books (I want the books). If it gets me both, sweet. It's nice to be able to print some pages from the modules, but I still want printed books.

I tried to go back and look at the bundle in the store, but didn't see anything saying that it was print & PDF, or just PDF. So what is the deal with the bundles?

Shadow Lodge

I have noticed that the Affinity bonus given to Elemental Native Outsiders (ENOs) is only for the Elemental Sorcerer bloodline; and not for the matching Genie bloodlines. Is this correct? If so, why can't they gain this bonus when taking the matching Genie bloodline for their race? This seems somewhat counter-intuitive but may have been written that way for game balance reasons that I am not aware of.

It just makes sense to me that an Ifrit Sorcerer would get the Affinity bonus as an Efreet bloodline sorcerer, or an Oread on the Shaitan bloodline (etc...). The Genie bloodlines appear to basically be a splitting up of the single Elemental bloodline into 4 distinct elemental bloodlines. There are some other subtle differences but are they unbalancing if granting the 4 ENOs that +2 to Chr based Sorcerer abilities? I don't know, so I'm asking.

Shadow Lodge

I think I know the answer but it is always best to ask. I have a character that receives Energy Resistance/Fire 5 and am thinking of taking a level in a class that would also give him Energy Resistance/Fire 5. My understanding is that these would not stack. Is that correct?
