There's a slight concern in the pit of his stomach about leaving the creature still locked in his cell as he carries on moving. Ulath gives a quick glance back at Owen, as they troop down the corridor quietly.

"I wonder why they need all t' cells?" His rough voice says softly, half to himself and not really wanting to know he answers.

"To rescue people and get some answers." Ulath seriously replies, hefting his axe heavily. Cautiously he looks around the corner of the hallway before starting to plod forward.

"If you would Zarine, please. Loosen t' bonds of t' doors." Ulath asks, then raises a heavy eye-brow. "Unless anyone knows owt of alignment divinations?"

"Poor blighter." Ulath whispers softly to himself, moving cautiously into the cell. Touching the creatures back he casts some minor healing magic.

Shaking his head at Savendirs' pessimistic assessment of the being, the stout dwarf leans over to look at the front of the creature. He whispers to Zarine, "Think tha' canst loosen it's bonds?"

Red faced and puffing slightly, Ulath rests the head on his weapon on the ground. "Bloody Nora, that was a bit tough. You alright, Zarine - the blighter took a liking to thee."

He turns around with a nod to acknowledge Owen and Savndirs efforts dealing with the creature, his thick calloused hand resting on the pommel of the axe. "Suppose we should see if t' runic cell opens properly."

"Reet Mr Ghost, lets finally put thee t' rest." Ulath says having used his full repartee of combat tricks and relying upon distraction.

"Go back to where thee came from, daft spirit." Ulath says wincing as the wrath touches Zarine. Keeping his shoulders low, he's ready to move if someone needs.

However he tries a different trick this time with thrusting the axe-head out and reversing it into a haft swing to force it back into the clutches of Zarines' wicked kukri.

"Aye, us dwarves are legendary for our sense of humour." Ulath replies wryly, as he shifts on the balls of his feet to dodge any blow that's incoming.

"Put tha' shoulder into it a bit more." Ulath encourages Zarine; "It were a good strike."

With a glance to Owen, the stout dwarf asks; "Does tha wanna get in 'ere?"

The dwarf hefts his axe, striking high towards the pin pricks of light in an effort to offset the undeads ethereal balance.

Aid Other (Zarine to Hit): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 If Owen fancies moving in to flank with Zarine, Ulath can step to one side & maybe even give you an extra attack if the wrath tries to attack you?

Ulath draws his axe as he takes a measured step backwards; "Aye, thanks for t'information Owen." His brow furrows deeply as he realises he has no way to hurt the spectral being, but since the creature doesn't know that he aims his swipe low to force the wraith back into Zarines' blades.

"I might be able to warp on of t' doors open, tho' not dispel t' magicks upon it." Ulath states plainly a bit disturbed by all the items he found in the previous cell.

"...Shoddy craftsmanship too. You want a well treated hard-wood underground." Ulath responds to Savendir, in a typically forth-right manner of a carpenter as he appraises the doors and the metal joints near the grates. "If your gonna lock someone up, make sure it's in a decently built cell." He tuts disapprovingly, a sight that some of his customers know and fear; meaning that the cost is rising.

Ulath opens the nearest door and moves inside, to have a look both at the furniture & more importantly for any secret doors in the cell. 'Where better for thieves to hide secret routes, but in their cells.'

"Aye, seems a sensible course of action." Ulath starts carefully down the stairs, holding a lantern down by this belt to illuminate the path.

"See any prints in tracks, or tail swishes?" Ulath whispers.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

"Can you see in t' dark and be as quiet as well as you slip thro' locked doors?" He asks Zarine about her scouting plan.

Nodding as Zarine takes command of the door opening, he politely takes a step back to give her some room. Tapping his lips in appreciation at the excellent job she does unlocking the door.

"Well done, careful if there's no floor." He says quitely, peering into the gloom; "I'd be happy to go first, if tha' wants?"

Ulath puts his hands on his thighs, creasing over slightly as the stairs and constant nervous tension has winded him. However determined not to let it show too much he eyes up the door for more traps.

"Think we need any mystic protections afore entering 'ere? Or maybe t' door yields to their accoutrements."

Ulath moves on down the steps, with a certain phlegmatic caution, mentally noting that they weren't quite built for dwarven legs. Placing one hand near to the haft of his axe, though he's more worried about pitfalls than pouncing vermin.

"Hmmmph, look like we could follow t' well-used route. Tho' we should take care o' traps, blighters tha' infest here are bound to leave some around." He looks to Zarine & Owen to see if they agree with his assessment.

"Well if it's safe..." Ulath grabs the handle and twists carefully ensuring a smooth motion in case of the doors age and consequent decrepitude. His eyes narrow as he peers into the room but he steps back so Owen and the others can also gain a measure of entry to the newly revealed area.

I thought so, just didn't want to leave a path behind.

I take it the wererats seemed to come from down the stairs, but sort of emerged from the walls with their sneakiness?

Ulath looks at the door carefully, especially the hinges. "So it's a pull door, best check it out."

The dwarf rummages for a bit of lamp oil, dabbing it on the hinges to reduce potential squeaks amongst the ratmens' lair, then stands a few steps down the stairs ready to slam open.

"Any of thee half-capable wit locks?" he asks.

"Reet, in t' morning I'll get mesenth seen to. First things first..." Holding the gnarled stick the stoic carpenter mumbles a few words, his wounds knit together and bruises fade. Then he holds it towards Zarine questioningly.

"Ouch, lass that looks a bit nasty. I've got a couple of spells that may heal thee. Anyone else?" He asks around the group. He then rummages around in his small pack for a twisted wooden stick.

"A few scrapes and bites, been int' worse scraps." Ulath states in his dour understated tones, bushing off his clothes and getting a rag out to clean his axe-head.

Looking down at the ratmen and poking them with his boot, he asks: "Any clue who the blighters were, think they're the rapscallions o' t' Brothers of The Seal & thus mates of that Max bloke we're looking for?"

The stout dwarf nods to the ladies beside him, after his blow goes ridiculously wide. Letting the momentum take him after the swing he 'tumbles' down the stairs. Although that may be a generous description of the flailing arms and stout form that falls down the stairs inelegantly.

Move to H3 drawing an AoO from G2 thief.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Nyxalia is delaying, as Treppa will point out.

However Ilias seeing that they are lacking the punching power to take the vile vermin down, draws upon his knowledge of the arcane and imbues Zarine with mystical strength to achieve their aims.

"Tha' thinks there's only one 'caster, then there ain't much between thar ears...." Ulath retorts in his rough brogue; "....but me axe." And he swings hardily to try and cleave the impossibly tough rat man in twain.

He decides not to step-up and follow the creature immediately but wait until after his axe swings.

Illias conjures up another acrid green globe and flings it towards the nearest wererat with some confidence.

The wolf snaps as the creature rises and tries to rip it's throat out & put it down again. Acting just before Zarine moves out of the way.

OK, when Zarine moves from G4 to G3, or G3 to G2. Drawing an attack Ulath will use his Sudden Block ability (-1 Mythic Point).

"That's a good one lass, but you need to put tha' shoulder into it." He calls out to Zarine as she darts across the staircase.

Ulath isn't really in a position for bow-fire.

Wincing as the rat attacks him from his blind spot, he spins around and in a single fluid motion swings at the creature knowing that he cannot even sting it. However he can create another opening, for Nyxalia this time, showing his back to the vermin shes fighting - he rolls to one side to try and ensure it misses and lets her get a better strike.

"Well I hope I'd not become as ugly as you vermin." Ulath says dryly, whilst Ilias shakes his head and mubles something beneath his breath conjuring up a ball of acid that he flings at the ratman, whilst his wolf worries the leg of the rat.

Raising a bushy eyebrow that his brow seemed not to even scratch the creature, Ulath changes his grip upon the axe. His axe describes a wide arc, then suddenly he changes it's direction - hoping to force the wererat to step back and into Zarines' daggers.

"Heard that t' Brothers o' Seal were rats, didn't think them vermin." Ulath replies with a brusque humour as the creature bites down hard on his arm.

"Reety-ho, time for a bit o' vermin extinction." He says hefting his axe and unstrapping a ebon shield from his back. Keeping the protective arm between him and the rats, he swings a heavily muscled arm culminating in the razor sharp axe.

He glances at Ilias as he's stepped in the way; "Unless tha' wanted to be here and have a crack at 'em?"

Does everyone want a free 30 foot of movement, since I was going to use my marshal's call as a Swift. Thus allowing the sneak attackers some better positions & Full attacks all around.

Ulath keeps perfectly still, staring hard at the wall as if it could melt away and reveal the door hidden behind. In the flickering light he tries to see if the mortar is upto standards.

"Needs a decent baluster and rail." Ulath mutters to himself. His heavy hands slip across the rough hewn walls, trying to confirm the presence of any concealed doors from his visual inspection. Softly he plods down the stairs.

"Doest thar think that there could be a shaft in t' centre of the stairwell?" He asks the others being overly cautious as he progresses down the stairs.

"I ain't got any useful spells. Anyone else?" the stocky carpenter mumbles as they softly move down the stairs. "But we may as well check if we hear owt every dozen steps. And I'll check the outer wall to see if it swings open into a hidden landing." He looks at the dim light of the stairwell - trying to figure if they need to dowse the lights or get more for the humans in the expedition.

Hugging the walls, the dwarf doesn't want to be too close to the central spiral - since it's very steep and the constant maintenance of the dilapidated stair doesn't imbue trust to it's structural integrity.

With a soft murmur that he doesn't really like these steps, Ulath descends. "What light do we have? Maybe t' bend of t' stair will 'amper their sight."

Ulath might start in A1.

Ulath keeps to the rear of the group a he's very wary of alerting others to his presence. 'Well I suppose it's a fine thing that I didn't get mesenth a gift of light footedness. If only I were in the forest.'

He looks down at his heavy leather boots reproachfully.

The dwarf scowls at the drunken sailors', as if they had insulted him with some sort of strange joke. However he looks to the decadent houses with an incline of his head.

"I ain't t' most quiet 'n' sneaky, suppose I could keep to t' shadows a bit." He volunteers knowing his lack of agility.
