No, No - fair enough. Every culture and way of life is beautiful in it's own right, and I respect yours. I apologize if I have offended.

Trista stands, and makes a full curtsy in Khun-Dhun's direction, after which she sits.

I wonder what Saul will be offering? Does anyone have any ideas?

Trista blushes ever so slightly.

It was nothing. Marcellus's work was much more impressive. Although I must say, Khun-Dhun, your...ferocity...was astounding. Might we not have been able to simply...I don't know, knock him out?

Not one to turn down a free meal in her current state even though the adreneline of battle is just now fading, Trista orders up a veritable feast for herself and Toz. When it arrives, she falls to hungrily, pausing only briefly to offer thanks to Shelyn for her aid in the battle. As she eats, she reflects on the fight, taking what lessons she can from it.

Eat up, Tozur - this is much better than the stolen table scraps I shared with you so long ago, eh?

Trista peers at Saul and gestures around to the casino.

I find all of...this...distasteful. But, I do need coin. I will listen to what you have to say. Toz, will you stay too? I'd feel much better with you around.

Sorry, 'hoof - yeah, AK is correct as to what I was waiting for. Should have been more clear on that point.

Hearing the satisfying "thunk" of the spellcaster hitting the floor, Trista moves to charge G4, using her glaive carefully to prevent lethal damage to the goon.

Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Non-lethal damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The mage, seeing the woman harmed, shouts and rushes forward, firing a spell at Dzae!

That's an AoO for me as he leaves my threatened square, right GM?

Attack (non-lethal): 1d20 ⇒ 18 (no modifier due to dealing non-lethal damage)

Non-lethal Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

No magic missile for you! No consciousness for you either, unless I miss my bet!

Shocked by the eruption of combat - of which she has never been a part save in her imagination - Trista almost forgets what to do. Enraged by the deception of the magic user, she calls Shelyn's judgement down on the mage. She then moves to threaten the mage, should he attempt to cast another spell.

Swift Action: Judgement of Sacred Justice on the wizard (W). (+1 to attack rolls against the Wizard until the end of the combat)
Standard ---> Move Action: Draw glaive.
Move Action: Move to 0-10 to threaten the wizard.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Trista yells, her voice echoing above the din of the gambling. It is as though two voices emerge from the young woman, her own along with another voice, deeper and more commanding.

That's Trista's "otherworldly" side, heh. When she gets agitated and speaks, the two voices thing happens.

Ware, friends! Something is amiss! SHUT YOUR EYES!

I'm happy for perception checks to be made on our behalf when you need one from all of us. Same for initiative.

Agreed on this point, I'll aggregate them all and post them in the ooc thread for you, Stomp. Edit: Actually, they're in my profile, since that's the only place I can post the dice tags without them rolling actual dice.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Trista, delighted at having won six coppers so easily, decides to risk another hand, this time at 2 silvers. If I win this time, I'm done, she tells herself. If I lose this time, I'm done - I have to be able to eat, after all.

Charisma: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Shaking her head, Trista calmly affixes her signature to the document.

A joke, then, which I must admit is rather lost on me. Still, I am now bereft of gold, so I have little choice but to sally forth with my three lonely silver pieces to make my fortune.

She sighs.

This cannot end well.

Eyeing the various games, Trista decides that she is most likely to have some luck at poker, where her looks may avail her by setting other players off their game.

Ma always said, nobody expects a girl to bluff. Let's hope she was right!

Betting her last 3 silvers at the poker table, Trista enters the action.

Charisma: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Celestial stuff

Trista smiles, and replies warmly:

Celestial:
Thank you, Dzae. Shelyn smile upon you, and best of luck in the coming contests.

When she is presented with the contract, Trista eyes it distastefully.

I am not at all certain that this is something I should sign. Is this binding, do you think? she asks whoever is near.

Trista smiles wryly.

They are costumes, Toz - see the hair protruding, there and there? Not to worry - not yet, anyway.

She waves to the grey dwarf and the self-proclaimed gnome ahead in the line.

Trista Goodheart, servant of Shelyn. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. Thank you for agreeing to allow Tozur the chance to prove himself. I assure you, you will not be disappointed.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Trista accepts Marcus' hand, shaking it warmly.

It really is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Marcus. I know you're apprehensive - no, don't deny it, I can tell - but I ask you to take my word. Toz is a beautiful individual. I've known him for many years. If you're good and kind, as in fairness you seem, you'll find him amenable. If your heart is full of wickedness, he will prove a formidable foe.

She gives a final squeeze, and lets Marcus' hand fall.

Hey - it looks like the line is moving! Mayhap we'll be inside soon.

Da never allowed me to drink wine... but I guess I'm off on my own, now aren't I? Thank you for your courtesy, sir. I'm Trista Goodheart, and it's my pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Hearing the man prompt Toz to pull back his hood, Trista grabs Toz's hand and offers a gentle squeeze of encouragement.

Go on, dear Toz - these people will respect you for who you are, not what you are - or they'll answer to me for it.

"I don't know. I saw someone similar in Roderic's Cove, with ashen skin, but that was a corpse in the water. I was too scared to study it."

Trista frowns.

Well, this one surely isn't dead. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. For my part, I'm simply here...looking into things. Mayhap I can find work here at the casino - I've got next to no money, and you know I would be less than likely to try to gamble what I do have. Perhaps, I could even...

She stands on her tiptoes, straining to see the front of the line.

...possibly work taking registrations? This line is moving so slowly...

Seeing the elf talking warmly to the creature with the ashen skin, Trista relaxes slightly.

Trista accepts the proffered scarf, giving it only a cursory examination before using it to daub gently at the corners of her eyes.

Thank you, kind sir. Forgive me, I must have had something in my eye.

Returning the scarf, she cautiously eyes the stranger and smiles.

He's quite a specimen - oh hells, he's the most chiseled man I've ever seen! A pity about that scar, otherwise he'd be utterly perfect.

She glances around nervously at the rest of the line of people standing in line at the casino.

Toz - what is that fellow? she says just loud enough for Toz and the dark-haired man to hear her, gesturing to the dark-skinned stumpy humanoid further up in the line. I've never seen one of his ilk before...

Trista, overjoyed at being united with her longtime friend, cries a little bit.

Oh, Toz - it's so good to see you again! I was never able to say goodbye, and I've worried so about you! I'm so glad to see that you're safe and well.

Toz wrote:
"And I can't believe you're here because of demons? Or was it devils? I... I can't remember the difference."

Trista smirks, shaking her head and wagging her finger lovingly at Tozur.

You're forgetting the stories! Remember - Aysynth Girdenwall, beloved of Shelyn, fought the twisting, corrupting evils of the devils, the denizens of the Hells. It was Davion Morningstar, holy warrior of The Eternal Rose who braved the depths of the Abyss itself and slew the archdemon Anthyriphixxis to avenge the destruction of Shelyn's temple in Faldamont. So, Demons exist for one reason—to destroy. Where their more lawful counterparts, the devils of Hell, seek to twist mortal minds and values to remake and reshape them into reflections of their own evil, demons seek only to maim, ruin, and feed. They dwell in the Abyss.

Gambling is a vice that would be loved by devils - not surprising that we'd find so many of their icons here, in this place.

She shakes her head sadly.

Anyway, what have you been up to? It would be just like me to go on about Shelyn when I haven't seen an old friend in years!

Encumbrance levels 58/116/175, currently at 60.98, Medium Load.

Now with 87% less s**#ty jokes!

I was just trying to coax you into a heavy load...oh wait, that doesn't really work either...

I am NOT a Calistrian!

Marcellus Alazario wrote:
I'm only affected at heavy load or more though and i'm not going to let myself go into it.

**Leaps into Marcus' arms**

Will do, as soon as I get home to Herolab. Trista is on a light load, and not even really that close to being on a medium load.

It will be intriguing to see how our glaive-wielders interact. I am intrigued. Prepare to be converted to Shelynism!!

Ah, a glaive. I remember those. I used to use them before I mastered the use of the Fauchard. Its like a normal Glaive, but better.

;).

Oh snap, it's on!

LOL

I am excited! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo

Also, I am nervous. I am the only guy on my team who can heal at all, and I didn't even pick CLW at 1st level. Sooo, that should be interesting.

If I'd have known I was healing, there'd have been no shortage of other ways I could have gone about it. Oh well, here's hoping nobody dies, because I won't feel too bad about it! LOL

Trista's rather exhaustive background is available on her profile.
