About Tolfdir

Backstory:

Tolfdir is one of the Clanless; A dwarf exiled from one of the mountain strongholds for crimes against his race, his clan or his ancestors. Unfortunately for Tolfdir, he has absolutely no recollection of what he did due to a head wound (and an unpleasant cranial scar) sustained in whatever beer-fuelled mania cost him his "Dwarfdom". He simply woke up one day in the blazing heat of the Surface with a stinking head, the unmistakeable sun-tattoo of the clanless and the doors of the Stronghold forever barred to him.

Since then he has made ends meet in any job he can find that needs muscle brought to bear; as a doorman, bodyguard and although he finds it distasteful - occasionally as a Strongarm, collecting debt-money.

It was through the latter that he made his first Szcarni contact and started picking up work here and there around Varisia due to his reputation for coming up with simple solutions to complex problems...mostly involving violence.

His latest job has seen him arrive in Sandpoint after acting as a guard on a caravan carrying Szcarni goods.

Personality:

The uncertainty of his exile has made Tolfdir relatively calm for a Dwarven Berzerker; being a stranger in strange lands, he cant afford to make enemies in the few welcoming havens he finds.
However, when the red mist rises in his eyes he becomes a force of nature; a humanoid wrecking ball tearing his way through his opponents, oblivious to the blows that rain down on him.

Tolfdir is much more likely to follow someone else's lead than be a leader and is most comfortable when a clear and simple plan has been explained for him to follow. This makes him an ideal thug-for-hire for the Szcarni; even if the criminal nature of the work makes Tolfdir more than a little uncomfortable.

He is wary of other dwarves, who he has come to expect to react with hostility or disdain towards him when they see his Clanless mark. In contrast, he has taken to life on the surface like a duck to water, enjoying the company of people from all races and walks of life. Although he understandably has little patience for people of a more scholarly inclination.

To those who can call him friend, he is intensely loyal and will often throw himself in the path of danger to help an ally. To his enemies, he's a raging bellowing thug and for the unlucky few, the last thing they ever see is his war-axe.

Appearance:

As a dwarf, Tofldir is understandably stocky, muscled and bearded. However, his hair is shaven into a mohawk trailing a few braided strands that reveals not only the cruel scar running the length of his scalp, but also the full extent of the dwarven tattoo on the right hand side of his face. In an effort to draw focus away from the shameful brand, a large proportion of the rest of his body is also tattoed (some with greater or lesser degrees of artistry). He also has numerous piercings, unusual for a dwarf, which he has picked up in his travels across Varisia as an attempt to further ingratiate himself into Szcarni culture.

Special Qualities:
- Slow and Steady; Speed never modified by gear or encumberance
- Defensive Training: Dwarves get a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant subtype.
- Greed: Dwarves receive a +2 racial bonus on Appraise skill checks made to determine the price of nonmagical goods that contain precious metals or gemstones.
- Hatred: Dwarves receive a +1 bonus on attack rolls against humanoid creatures of the orc and goblinoid subtypes due to special training against these hated foes.
- Hardy: Dwarves receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities.
- Stability: Dwarves receive a +4 racial bonus to their Combat Maneuver Defense when resisting a bull rush or trip attempt while standing on the ground.
- Stonecunning: Dwarves receive a +2 bonus on Perception checks to potentially notice unusual stonework, such as traps and hidden doors located in stone walls or floors. They receive a check to notice such features whenever they pass within 10 feet of them, whether or not they are actively looking.
- Weapon Familiarity: Dwarves are proficient with battleaxes, heavy picks, and warhammers, and treat any weapon with the word “dwarven” in its name as a martial weapon.
