History:

“Why do you play with fire Tiktaa?” The wise old man quietly asked.
“It likes me” playfully responded the dark haired little girl.

She might have only seen four years of this life yet since Jothka Cloud Climber noticed her control of fire Shaman Black Feather has treated her as a precious weapon to be forged and honed into a perfect blade.

Tiktaa’s young life was full of the trials and struggles as befits a nomadic Shoanti Quah child. Learning to hunt, to fight, ride horses, the Quah trade habits, listen to the forest and most of all learning the ways of her ancestors. Living with Black Feather, the tribal Shaman wasn’t fun, most of all she wanted to be with her family, playing with her siblings and living free. Her father, a Shriikirri warrior was proud of her, proud that his tribe’s Jothka noticed his little Tiktaa as this brought great pride to her family.

Black Feather was always with her teaching her about animals, about the elements and most of all about The Shriikirri Quah history:
“The Hawk Clan, more so than any other clan, believes the study of the nature’s beasts holds the key to victory against its foes. Both predators and prey have much to teach to a Shoanti who watches and listen. As such, the Hawk Clan swells with both expert hunters and animal trainers. The quah’s braves’ skill as horsemen is rivaled only by the riders of the Velashu Uplands. Although retaining many of the traditional cultural prejudices against Chelaxians, the Shoanti of the Hawk Clan are also the most likely of the seven quahs to interact with other peoples. For many generations, the Clan of the Hawk has been the face of the Shoanti to the people of southwestern Varisia. Chelish inhabitants of Magnimar’s holdings and Ravenmoor regularly trade with emissaries from the Clan of the Hawk, falsely assuming that the other Shoanti tribes of the Storval Plateau are much the same.”
“Blah blah blah, I just want to ride horses. Please can I ride the horses today?” “Of course you can.” Calmly states the old man, “You can play until moon rise but only after you’ve extinguished all camp fires and relit them.” Fire training was easy for her, as natural as feeling the wind on her skin.

Thus was her life until one sunny day soon after her 17th birthday, “Tiktaa, it is time. It is time you find your spirit.” Knowing what this meant she was excited and nervous. The Plummet is the Shriikirri Quah’s rite of passage, falling from a great height and surviving by riding the wind to safety.
“Promise you’ll catch me Black Feather.” Sheepishly asks Tiktaa “Now you know better than that, I’ll save you but you mustn’t dwell on that. Concentrate on the flame in your heart, call out to our ancestors for guidance that you may find knowledge within the wind currents.”

Nervously climbing to the Storval Pleateau edge Tiktaa begins her ritual prayers focusing herself and calling out to her ancestors. “ام ماني لي وسادة همهمة”, pausing then breathing deeply as she nears the edge and without stopping her prayers, she screams “ام ماني لي وسادة همهمة!” Plunging off the cliff, soaring on the currents…hearing the deafening wind scream at her…all at once, silence. “Slow Burn.” A lovingly calm voice states to her, “let go and be free of these limitations.” Peaceful calm surrounds her, wonder and passion fills her, she feels the warmth and burning inside grow; she is growing into a fire storm! Replacing the calm, panic and confusion “What is this?” Tiktaa’s mind screams! “Let go little one, you are powerful, you are Slow Burn, she who controls the fire. Peace little one. Calm.” The panic fades the fire inside returns but no longer raging, it is a controlled warm burn yet power like none she’s felt before.

After being caught by the Black Feather and returned to the Quah’s favored camp upon the plateau, Tiktaa says “Slow Burn. That’s who I am Black Feather, no longer Tiktaa.”
“Yes little one, I am aware of your name. Now hold still, the first tattoo always hurts most.”

After her plummet and naming day, Slow Burn is instructed to learn about life outside the tribe. “Spread your wings little one. How can you be the great Slow Burn without starting fires first?” During her first night away from the sheltering tribe Slow Burn, sitting next to her small fire feels a soft nuzzling on her ankle. A brown forest rabbit is cuddling up to her, upon reaching down to pet the animal she feels the strongest emotional pull towards it. Almost hearing a "hello human" Slow Burn realizes this is not a normal rabbit. "Hello rabbit."

Personal details:

Appearance
Race: Human (Shoanti)
Gender Female
Age 17
Size Short and wiry
Coloration Dusty colored skin and jet black hair who has a radiant light behind her green eyes and the faint smell of smoke about her.
Attractiveness Slow Burn is an attractive frail human female.
Dress Rustic tribal Shoanti garb.
What other details would someone notice on a closer look? The first thing anyone sees is a large flowing tattoo across her forehead stretching down to her nose. She is the epitome of a young Shoanti female yet with a flowing mane of black hair. Anyone of Shoanti birth could see the tattoo is a fire tattoo, signifying this little woman is more than she appears to be. She is small and shy, diminutive yet her eyes denote a confidence unbecoming of her body language.
Do you have a distinctive way of speaking? Quiet yet abrupt, no mincing words.
Birth & Family
Where and when were you born? Born to the Shriikirri Quah on the Storval plateau
Do you know your exact birthdate? Lamashan 14, Harvest Day, 17 years ago.
Who are your parents? Shriikirri Quah warrior and squaw.
Names? Circling Wind and Stamping Doe
Were they married? Yes
Are they still alive? Yes
Do you know any members of your extended family? Yes, tribe is family
How did you get along with your family? Slow Burn was estranged from her immediate family as she was removed early in life. She lived with the Quah Shaman, Black Feather and was instructed in all aspects of shamanism, Shoanti ancestry, trade skills and cultivating her fire creation abilities from age four.
Education & Work
How did you learn your trade, skills, etc.? Black Feather taught her the Quah ways and Shaman requirements but was also an avid reader and trade "supervisor", listening to the meetings from afar yet advising when needed. This skill was passed on to the little, usually unnoticed Tiktaa early on.
How important are letters, books, etc. to you? Books have always been an extravagance yet the need to know words and numbers was pounded into her from day one as the Shriikirri Quah trades extensively with peoples from all over Varisia. Learning additional languages meant much to her mentor Black Feather. "Always know your enemies words."
Friends? Few tribal members except Black Feather, her Shaman mentor and Horse, her rabbit familiar. Being a “chosen one” left her alone and although revered she felt shunned.
Attitudes & Beliefs
What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? All Shoanti shamans practice a combination of animism, ancestor worship, and druidism, revering the often violent spirits of the natural world and heroes of the past. While individuals are not worshiped, the feats of dead warriors and tendencies of great beasts or powerful natural events are often invoked before hunts and battles. All Shoanti revere those who came before them and respect the powers of the land that still supports their people.
Likes & Dislikes
What do you love? Fire and animals
What do you hate? Nothing
