About 1824-16:

Thorn was a street urchin in Absalom. He has no knowledge of a family or a history. Never well liked by others, he saw the society as his ticket out of poverty. He doesn't care much for the "noble" goals of the society, but there are very few rules, and he gets plenty of fortune and glory.
