Order of the Amber Die

The voidglutton gave me my favorite character development ever. My goblin rogue stayed to let everyone else go free. I rolled up a dwarf paladin to replace him, and I loved playing that paladin...which shocked everyone when the goblin returned to murder him in the postscript of the adventure. The voidglutton had tortured him into madness until he finally gave in and embraced the chaos, at which point the voidglutton allowed him to go free and return to Otari as the most feared serial killer ever whispered of in taverns and family homes--known simply as Otari's Bane.

I love that story! Sounds like both our groups left Otari a little worse than we found it, haha. There are probably some really dark versions of the town out there when you think of all the crazy stuff that happens to groups that play the AP.

Tess wanted to stay and fight the voidglutton, just sayin'. That was in 2022, my Pathfinder skills were okay, but I didn't have the campaign experience that many of the other members had. It would have killed us. I'm kind of surprised no one asked why we didn't return to fight it later on when we were higher level.

Any chance you can post your PC's basic stats (aka names, genders, ancestries, and classes)?
Sure! In this video I described some of the family tree, and you can see a sketch of the generations. I'll put the rest below.
Interesting. A bit curious why Jody went with a Alchemist/Toxicologist but I'm guessing that only helps with the brewing of beers and ales, heh. What alignment is Theodora's Champion of Dranngvit if I might ask?

Hi Berselius! As one of the registered nurses in this group I'll say that alcohol is a toxin, with concocted beverages sitting right alongside crafted poison, so when Jody brought up the toxicologist idea we went with it. It's another reason why we're all strong-blooded dwarves! Our party feat is Diehard, since many members of Clan Firecask are used to being unconscious from the effects of said poison...

Salthrun doesn't have an alignment, we've been converting to Remaster along the way with this AP. She's money-obsessed, but doesn't usually harm others unless they harm her family. That's Salthrun in the picture backing up her brother as we entered the fungi-filled tavern. We're preparing for our next marathon in a few days, so I'm transforming into Aunt Sally right now!

Salthrun here! Although I much prefer to be called Aunt (strong emphasis on the “t”) Sally. The adventuring throughout Highhelm has proven to be a very lucrative journey for Clan Firecask. Our very own Battle Axe brew has been selling like mithral, so I've been diligently keeping a tight grip on the leger and making sure not a drop goes to waste! Lost product comes directly out of these dwarves’ checks and the family knows that I won’t dishonor my great Dranggvit and give anyone a pass. A debt is a debt and profit is power.

Yet while the brains keep this operation going, what kind of champion would I be without the brawn? It was a privilege to try out for the Hodags basilisk team with my brother, Thorgreigir. He proved to be scrappy enough, and brought both honor and demand for beer to our clan! Winning is coin in my book, and he pleasantly surprised me that day. I just complimented my brother.

So now we are off to find the Sky King’s stolen dagger and I’m not too keen on being away from adding up our sales or not watching for the perfect pours from our kegs. But I must go, since some of our most venerable relatives forget that they aren’t beardless youth anymore and might need a lift out of a sticky situation as we venture on. Grudgingly here to assist! I’m sure there are a few creatures that would pay a fine price for good beer in the Darklands past the city!

Salthrun here, that’s me above as the champion of Dranngvit and Clan Firecask’s accountant! I manage the clan’s finances with a fierce pen, and not a single gold piece is left out — or someone has to answer for it. I’m “Aunt Sally” to most, and I’m only mostly nice.

Everyone has a role in the clan business:

Fissure, my dad, is our resident alchemist and main brewer. Don’t ask about his eye, or your next drink could have you searching for a healer.

Renck, one of my great uncles, has been keeping the clan recipes safe for the past couple of centuries. He works with Fissure to make sure we always abide by Highhelm’s purity laws.

Disa is “Mama Disa” to many of us, my own grandmother, and even a great-grandmother to some at the table. If anybody has the final say about family decisions, it’s Disa.

Zuls, my father's cousin, negotiates business deals and keeps an eye on our competition. Zuls managed to secure Clan Firecask as the official sponsor of this year’s professional basilisk championship — more on that in the next blog!

Thorgreigir, my brother, is our clan muscle. Our beer shipments can be pretty darn valuable and someone’s got to organize their protection. We wouldn’t want to lose any money, would we?

Drothgyr, my uncle, organizes our marketing and release schedule. He’s got every social event in Highhelm memorized, and makes sure Clan Firecask is represented.

Dungruain, another great uncle of mine, is in charge of our religious affairs, an important position regardless of what clan you belong to. He counsels us when needed, and frequently announces that “these hands belong to Trudd.”

All of your support and compliments are greatly appreciated, I’m excited about being voted Player Captain of this project. Abomination Vaults was only my first Adventure Path! This is why I'm also enrolled in The Crown Academy, our home campaign where we train and improve our skills for official projects. I can't wait to show you my homework and notes from the academy, since there might be a blog about that in our future. Get ready to hear from us a bunch this year!

Yeah! After nearly two years of delving the Vaults, it is bittersweet that our time in this AP has come to an end. Tess Rajani, with her love story and questionable decisions as a mother-to-be, has taken her place as one of my most favorite characters to develop and play in Pathfinder. I grew a lot as a player during this project, and I’m proud that Tess was the last one standing while being a hard match for the wisps in the final encounter!

Tess was quite the collector, probably enhanced because I’m a completionist. She often took souvenirs from kills and proudly displayed them as she delved deeper into the dungeon. Her quirky pregnancy cravings had her actually cooking up and offering some of the oddest ingredients she came across, much to the disgust of her fellow comrades. While she will forever be entombed in the bottom of the Vaults, her legacy lives on!

Awesome. Nice to see there actually are some down sides to team Overwhelming Firepower, but y'all are champs and pivoted.

It really has been a wild dungeon crawl to say the least. It is so cool to experience the unexpected advantages of an all-ranged party. After a bunch of encounters that easily go your way, you start to feel untouchable. But the DARKNESS! Talk about a humbling moment, for sure. Tess is our girl for both ranged and melee and often has no problem running up on a foe and point-blank showing them what she’s made of. How frustrating when the caligni just turned off the lights and decided to flank her! How dare they! Fortunately, with some lucky rolls and serious re-strategizing, we were able to survive in those dark corners of the vaults. Mrs. Rajani started to take trophies from enemies that wielded darkness against us and proudly wear them so all future darkness foes knew what she was capable of. The rest of the slingers weren’t too thrilled with these trophies being carried around with them but everyone has a quirk, ya know? It takes more than turning the lights off to take us out!

Mrs. Rajani here! Signing away your unborn child's soul to a devil?!? Level 7 sure was full of surprises, and after spending hours and hours under that red light, it wasn't too farfetched that our moral compass would get a bit compromised.

Of course, Tess made sure to discuss the contract with her husband, Carman, before ultimately agreeing. (You didn't think she'd do something so impulsive, right? Right?) The timing couldn't have been better for the Rajanis as there's a mayoral election on the horizon for Otari.

We hope we can count on your vote for our esteemed blacksmith and descendant of the Roseguard!

Mrs. Rajani here! I haven’t played as many adventures as some of the other members, but this path has been solidly AMAZING!

I too, miss Maloika. The curiosity of the goblin really did bite him in this past marathon! Yet we keep his memory alive as we push forward without him.

Of course, being the true romantic I am at heart, Tess has a love story unfolding in this world of such grotesque evil. She is loyal to her party but most loyal to her perfect man, Carman Rajani, and their bond has saved her from near death at least once already. Back around the table, some players can’t help but roll their eyes. I think they’re jealous but who knows? Tess is full blown in a rose-colored world!

Thanks! Having a blast at my first full project!

I always love opportunities to flirt with the GM! Erm, I mean, Carman!

Anyway, I am curious about the community’s thoughts on places to rest down in the Vaults. We found a nice, cozy room on the second level that we lock ourselves in for healing and downtime activities (it had the rogues in it at first). But I have an itching feeling (maybe it’s my trigger finger) that our time there won’t be as safe as we think!

Players who have explored the Vaults before us—where is your favorite spot for resting?

Those maps! Those beautiful images! The bad ass fights! The threat of the amber die! OAD is back!

Welcome Karee! 100 hours is a true accomplishment!

So glad I got to see you, Adam, and Theodora at PAX Unplugged.

So excited for more updates!

Hi, Rob! It was great to finally meet you at PAX! Your drink recommendations are 10/10 for sure!

It has definitely been an honor to cameo as Tess at the OAD table. That's me to the left of the gate in the graveyard fight. I'm still short my 100 hours but getting my own membership jersey is my new goal for this coming year. It shouldn't be too hard--the boys in this group obviously need an extra RN on hand with their rowdy ways.

Despite the constant friendly fire from Matt's scattergun, I cannot wait for what's coming in the next marathon. My girl Tess is holding strong against everything Adam is throwing at this Pathfinder newb!
