Backstory:
The Clements worshiped Charon for as long back as anyone in the family could remember, even old uncle Chadly, who was well into his one-hundred and fifth year. The Clements were an exceptionally large family, and truly, the family motto reflected it; Souls are cheap and the deals are ripe. When ever the family had need, the current head of the family would offer up a soul from one of the children, and the family had plenty once again. Charon’s emissaries were even courteous enough to wait until the children were no longer using it, old and gray as they were at the end of their lives.

The success of the Clements’ farm in Ustalav was paved on the souls of countless family members. Bad crop? Sacrifice Bevin’s soul, she won’t miss it. Family longevity starting to wane? Jeb can step up. Outside of the bartering of souls and farm work, life on the farm was pretty dull. Outsiders were very uncommon. The story of Stanus saving an older researcher from a pack of zombies was told for years on the farm. When Stanus got news of the researchers death, he was saddened, and even went to his funeral. He helped to remove a curse from a prison, and clear the name of a flesh golem in Lepidstadt. Unfortunately, he was forced to go home when he received news that his father, the current head of the family, was seriously ill.

By the time the dead started to walk, Stanus was the new head of the family. He did what any head of the family in the past would have done, he took his daughter to the glade, and gave her soul so that his farm and family might be spared. The undead left, but the very next day, more approached. This time he gave his lord the soul of his young niece. On the fifth day, they watched Lepidstadt, only a few hours away, burn. Day after day, his emissary would remind him, “Timesss up, Sstanusss!” and with each reminder, another soul would follow. Finally, none were left to give and as the cold dead hands clawed at his back, he still pleaded with his emissary, “Please, I’ll give you anything, anything at all!”. The last thing he heard as he died was his emissary’s guttural voice, “Don’t you get it, fool? We already own everything, worm.” followed by a hissing laugh.

The Worm awoke from a cold and deep slumber. Something had jabbed him. The Worm looked up at the stable boy and smiled, even though the boy couldn’t see it behind the mask. A mask he didn’t recall putting on. “Don’t worry, boy…” Before the Worm could finish, the stable boy notice the Cacodaemon floating in the shadows. The boy gasped and backed out from the stall.

The Worm sighed, “Could you try to be a bit less conspicuous?”

“Of course… Master.” it hissed, attempting to mask it’s obvious disdain as it turned into a scorpion. “Our master wishes for you to remain hidden and do nothing for the time being.”

The Worm blinked, momentary confusiion giving way to sudden realization, “Our ma--- Oh, Charon. Of course. Do you have a name? I can’t very well call you emissary.”

The Cacodaemon grinned through jagged teeth, “You could, for that is what I am. Though you may call me Drezanthriel, or Drez for the sake of time. And our master wishes for you to be Worm, for even your name is his and he does not wish for you to use it.”

Drez and his Worm left the stable before the others awoke.

Anything else I add to the background is dependent on the wishes of the GMs. Essentially, due to Charon's patience and cunning, anything at all could be a long con that will take centuries to come to fruition, including saving the world from lesser evils now that he might harvest it's souls later. With that in mind, The Worm would probably be commanded to join the group, don't make waves, and do as they do. Blend in and help them to succeed at any cost. The Worm was in the first two books of Carrion Crown, as Stanus Clement. His identity was wiped from the nameless one feat upon his death, however. It may be interesting to see the what unfolds between Loc, Karen, and the Worm.
