About The Seeker, Priest of Nethys

Elyn grew up in the forests of Kyonin, but has not returned to his homeland since being dispatched as an emissary of Queen Telandia Edasseril many years ago. Some of his ancestors and family were powerful wizards, following the elven traditions of arcane scholarship. They lived near Tanglebriar, and the elves of the region occasionally battled incursions of the minions of Treerazer. After his training, Elyn was dispatched into the world to garner support for Kyonin among the other nations of Golarion, in their struggles against Tar-Baphon and Treerazer.

In particular, he took an interest in drow, the “dark elves” who sought shelter in the Darklands rather than flee Golarion during Earthfall. While drow are generally considered by other elves to be corrupted and evil, Elyn’s curiosity and desire to learn drove him to seek out his subterranean kin. And indeed, he found some communities of drow to be welcoming and hospitable, albeit also aloof, wary, and suspicious. A few drow were even mildly sympathetic to Kyonin’s plight; many were openly hostile, and others were indifferent and cared not for the affairs of the surface world.

And so, Elyn returned to the surface of Golarion, with an appreciation for the many perspectives he had encountered in his journeys. Yet he had grown disenchanted with statecraft and political machinations, increasingly preferring the pursuit of knowledge over that of influence. It was around this time when he came across a wandering priest of Nethys, an old but hale human woman named Yasmin, who began to teach him the ways of the All-Seeing Eye. The study of magic appealed to Elyn, as it had his forebears. In the tradition of Nethys, however, Yasmin only set Elyn on the path to learning the deeper truths for himself. And so he wandered the lands, studying extensively at a number of different libraries, and eventually Elyn became a priest of Nethys.

Previously he had been known by many names: “Wanderer from the Woods,” “Crystal Gazer,” “Tempest Eye,” and the like. Instead he took on a new name, “The Seeker,” signifying his search for understanding. In his travels, just as the All-Seeing Eye teaches, The Seeker has seen magic used to create and to protect, as well as to consume and destroy. He has a healthy respect for all aspects of magic, and pursues his study of protective and destructive magic with equal zeal. He often helps those who need help, regardless of their nature, especially if they help him. But The Seeker might also harm those who seek to harm him. He often ponders his own internal light and darkness, and how each of these aspects manifests in his life. Nethys himself might have ruminated on such things, after all.
