Hello, I am Hmm's character Tess. I'm here as an example of a PC with a fully statted out botting spoiler. Take a look at the 'Bot me' section of my sheet to see the dice expressions that are ready to be cut and pasted from there.

oh so no more "what do the ancestors want"?

I would have stayed with her old mechanics had she been grandfathered. But the new mechanics made her whole concept breakdown, so I am rebuilding her to a warpriest becasuse that was the closest I could come to what she was.

I may still roll to see what the ancestors want, but it will be totally non-binding.

Tess feels something settle within her as she is surrounded by the happy people of Niishan. "It's odd, but I think that my ancestors feel more settled now. Perhaps we can find a more harmonious path going forward."

Tess is retraining into a Warpriest Cleric of Pharasma. I've finally decided the path forward!

What do the Ancestors Want?:

Ancestral Influence: 1d4 ⇒ 1
  • 1=Martial (if moderate curse, your Strikes gain a +1 status bonus to attack rolls and a +2 status bonus to damage.)
  • 2=Skillful (if moderate curse, +1 status bonus to skill checks and perception.)

I am in such a quandary over my Ancestor Oracle, Tess. She was a finesse build, making use of her elven weapons, and she is simply wrecked by the clumsy curse of the remastered oracle. I must admit, I am still chewing over what to do with her, and she was my second favorite PFS character.

And yes, I know that I am running out of time to use my remaster rebuild, but Tess was someone whose flavor and mechanics were in perfect alignment.

Though she is an elf, she is a duskwalker, created roughly 7 months ago, so she is a 'new' soul, fascinated by everything the mortal world has to offer.

I have 4 Glyphs as does Bret, so everyone starts with 2 Hero Points.

Bret and I will be gone during GenCon, but may be able to update once a day... Still, we will be distracted as we are both on the GM Indentured Servitude Plan.

Tess walks around Niishawn in growing excitement. She's matured over the seven months that her life has existed so far, enjoying every bit of life that mortal life has to offer. Watching the children dodging around her and screaming, she grins with a smile that lights up her pale, silver skin.

Even though she can never have children born of her body, even though she was never a child herself, she loves the wild abandon of mortal children. After a few minutes, she joins in the chase, happy to play 'it' with the kids. "I'm going to catch you, you better run!" Tess's elven feet run faster than most deer, but she lets the kids beat her half the time, until she falls down in genuine exhaustion. For the moment, the voices of her ancestors are quiet, and watchful.

Did you see the touch of fear in some of the adult's faces? It's the dry voice of one of her 'ancestors', one of the three souls that Tess's morrigna mother, Tosof, mixed to make Tess come to life. This voice is middle-aged, and most interested in seeing Tess hone her skills.

"I never noticed," Tess fibs casually to her ancestor, refusing to worry for now. "I love mortal festivals!"

Hmmmph. The voice in her head makes its disquiet known, and fades softly away.

Tess laughs as she lies on the ground, letting the smells of mortal cooking and the noises echo around her. Finally she gets herself up and asks at one of the food stalls, "Are there any local foods I should try? I want to try them all! Though... maybe not all at once!"

Then she notices the glint of a wayfinder around someone's neck, and waves them over. "Hey, I'm Tess. I think we may be working together? Want to share some of this roasted corn with me? I may have bought more than I can eat by myself!"

Just stick with your old oracle. I suspect that I will not be remastering Tess.

Oracle was complicated. Most people did not want to play them them or create them so the Remaster simplified oracles and fixed what the non-oracle players wanted from the class.

Unfortunately, for those of us who loved our Oracles and built into the weirdness, the remaster would mean reworking all the parts that we loved and embraced.

I'm hoping that the previews are wrong, and that I will find joy for Tess in Player Core 2. And I am sure that I will learn to embrace the new oracle on a different character, once Player Core 2 drops. The sky is not falling... yet. I'm just glad that we have a grandfathered option.

Being able to mix and match curses would be lovely, but I'm concerned about how deep these changes are. I'm an ancestor oracle built around the whole meddling spirits concept, so I want to see how this all works before deciding whether to remaster.

    A little origin story:

In the golden wheat fields of Geb, legions of groaning undead harvested grain that would be someday destined for Absalom. A morrigna named Tosof landed, her wings full of spiders. She glanced at the fields full of undead workers with an oddly calm expression. It was not her place to slay every minor undead in the world, however satisfying that would be. Besides, Geb would be an educational place to manifest her child. The girl would have to learn about them at some point. Better here, where they were a lawful majority.

Tosof extended out her hand, and the girl manifested as a fully formed adult. The girl took her first breath, and then turned slowly, her long red hair swaying back and forth, and the tattoos of skulls covering her silvery skin. Tosof handed a tunic to the girl, and said gently in osiriani, “You are number four.”

Because number four was ‘Tess’ in Osiriani, the girl repeated back, “I am... Tess?”

Tosof smiled. “Close enough. You are the fourth soul I have brought back into the world. Before those souls were forced to my destiny and purpose, but the Age of Omens is past, and I have learned... humility.”

Tess frowned. “I have no purpose?”

Tosof smiled. “You have one that you will find for yourself. You have free will. Grow. Learn. Surprise me.”

The girl looked around. “Why am I here?” As Tosof opened her mouth to reply, the fierceness in Tess’s countenance stopped her. Tess pointed to the legions of undead that surrounded them in the land of Geb. “Mom. Why am I here?”

The corners of Tosof’s mouth turned up. “Because your mother has a sense of humor.”

My own character, Tess, is a Pharasmin duskwalker who works for the Pathfinder Society. She was 'born' (should I say, 'made?') in Geb, where in order to survive, she could not outright slay every undead she saw. Now, she gleefully slays unintelligent undead, and undead doing obviously evil things. But there have been times she has negotiated with an undead, and she certainly had an entertaining conversation around boundaries the last time she worked alongside a PFS necromancer.

But in the end, she wore an oath to the Pathfinder Society to Explore, Cooperate and Report, and both she and the necromancer had a mission to accomplish. The other player and I had fun roleplaying our differences of opinion vocally while working together towards a common goal.

So here's my real question. Why are you building a psychopomp summoner in a party that you know will include a necromancer? If you and the other player enjoy spicy dialogue and a "frenemies" teammates vibe, it can be a lot of fun. But if you interfere with their thing, or if they interfere with your PC's thing, it can get old fast.

So... have a serious conversation out of character with the other player before going down this path and decide on boundaries in advance.

    Hmm
