The spirits leave and save for the crackling fire, the night is quiet again.

Four hours later, as the moon creeps toward the horizon and the sky lightens just enough that it can be distinguished from the land beyond the fire’s light, but with the stars still visible, yet another voice calls from out of the darkness. “So, strangers have come again to Niishan’s fire. Did they tell you the sad story of Wanikkawi? Was it their usual calumnies and lies? Did they send you out here, alone, easy prey for me?”

The deep rumbling voice is from a large horned giant of a creature. Smaller creatures like humans who have lost their skin lurk in the woods with him.

Yes, in general it is better to stay in the area of the firelight that we are supposed to protect. That said, if your character has something that only works outside that area you know your capabilities better than I.

Demand Pact (auditory, linguistic, mental, occult) Frequency once per turn; Effect Wanikkawi attempts to force a creature within 30 feet that he is aware of to agree to a pact with him. The creature must attempt a DC 28 Will save. Its effects depend on the variation; see below. Afterward, the creature gains temporary immunity for 1 day.

Pact of Power
Wanikkawi promises power by transforming them into a spirit, like he was. Demand Pact gains the following results.

Critical Success Wanikkawi becomes sickened 1 at the thought of his own transformation.
Success The creature is unaffected.
Failure The creature takes on aspects of Wanikkawi’s form for 1 minute. Because of this, if they enter or begin their turn in bright light caused by the fire they become sickened 1 for 1 round.
Critical Failure As above, except the creature becomes sickened 1 if they enter or begin their turn in any light by the fire and sickened 2 in bright light caused by the fire. This condition lasts for 1 minute.

The other corpse rushes up to attack Xun with a fist. He moves through the foliage with ease.

    Kidron believes that the Wanikkawi is compelled to offer power to others, but doing so actually weakens him. The more of you that are affected by this pact, the easier he will be to defeat.

    The lesser creatures are known as Excorion, undead corpses that have been flayed, exposing muscle and veins. They are loosely related to zombies and share the same weaknesses (vitality and slashing) but are not as slow as them.

    Wanikkawi laughs at the attempt to rattle him.

    I forgot to remove the sickened condition from Xun, however, as the excorion critically succeeded on the grapple check, Xun is restrained, so cannot cast telekinetic manuever. (You have the off-guard and immobilized conditions, and you can't use any attack or manipulate actions except to attempt to Escape or Force Open your bonds.)
