I bid on the Worlanisi charity boon last GenCon and got a worlanisi, a race that is near and dear to my heart since I first concepted it for Near Space. But now I need to build a character, and am looking for ideas.

It's a +2 Str + 2 Cha race. So I'm considering either a melee envoy (maybe with an archetype?) or a strength-based solarian. But I'm wide open to ideas here. I've built a lot of envoys, but none centered around melee before, and I've never done a solarian, ever.

If I go envoy, what archetypes would you suggest?

If I go solarian, what should I be looking for as I build?

Or do you have other suggestions? I want to play with the Worlanisi's luck feats (Interstellar Species) and other reroll abilities. I'm open to other concepts, classes, archetypes.

Dearest Organized Play Leadership Team,

Is there any chance the World Traveler Boon can be expanded to cover Tian Xia? I just purchased it for a poppet from the Golden Road region so that I could pick up the Leiomano, and then discovered that Tian Xia is not listed in the regions on the boon. I need a Leiomano so that my Lion Poppet (who has no teeth of his own) can 'bite' people with his club. It's important to Jinglemane's pride to have a 'bite' attack of his very own.

Now... technically, I have no mechanical ties to the Golden Road region -- just story ones -- and this character has NEVER been played. So I suppose that I could proclaim that my Poppet has a "Made in Tian Xia" note on his tag and then pick up World Traveler to cover the time after he awakened in the Golden Road region when my sylph companion wished me to life. Mechanically, that would work, and the story would be preserved.

But I would absolutely adore it if instead I could have my home region be the Golden Road and me having picked up the Leiomano in a weapon shop in Minkai when I was last there. I'd like to have my mechanics match my story rather than have to adjust my story to fit my mechanics.

(Origin story and character sheet in my profile, for the curious.)

Thank you so much for your consideration,
Hmm

Tarnished Legacy: Historia's Holdout

You've been summoned by both Celita and Ixthia to a meeting at Exo-Guardian Headquarters, a former warehouse building in the trendy Downlow neighborhood of the Spike. As you are coming in, you notice something new about the exterior of the building. Boxes full of attractive edible plants have been placed in every window, and a decorative container garden flanks either side of the warehouse building.

A bright green skittermander accompanied by wolf-like creature with a glowing chest is humming as he tends to some of the plants, and heavily armored individuals move in and out of the building. Some of them are familiar faces from the Lorespire Complex who wave at you as you walk by. Everybody pauses to look at the new plantings, one kasathan sneezing in reaction to the unfamiliar greenery. A large vesk laughs and mutters under her breath, "Cheer up. At least it's not that sugary Strawberry-whatever music anymore, right?"

PBP Gameday XI starts tomorrow, so feel free to roleplay here until we can start the adventure in earnest.

WHY RANK THE REPEATABLES?

We now have a whole bunch of repeatable content in Starfinder! But I think that it might be a good opportunity to look at all of our repeatables, and study each of them, both from a 'Play once' perspective and a 'I'm going to play this many times perspective.' What makes a great repeatable scenario is not the same thing as what makes a great 'Play once' scenario. I think that how I am going to do this is by taking them one at scenario at a time, and analyzing how they play out.

I'm hoping (ambitiously) to also link these short analyses to reviews in their product threads, because I think that it can help GMs and future scenario writers to consider what makes a fantastic repeatable, and help everyone with planning out scenarios for their lodges. I'd like to invite others to weigh in on this question, too. Argue with me. Post your own favorites. Talk about why they work as a repeatable, or do not.

One thing that is great is that we now have a TON of repeatable content, so even scenarios that are not great on a replay can be scheduled less frequently, allowing players time to forget some of what happened when they played that scenario last.

Biases of this Reviewer:

Other than conventions or at the start of a new season when people are launching new characters, I tend to avoid most repeatables as a GM and as a player. I like to devote a good portion of my gaming time to following the story of a season and its metaplot. I like adventures to stay fresh and surprising for myself and my players. So I will usually run a brand-new repeatable when it first comes out and no one has played it yet, and then avoid it thereafter.

But I recognize the value of repeatables for bringing a table together who cannot play anything else, or for providing great introductory content to newcomers. It's also great for getting casual GMs to GM for my venue, because most people would rather GM something they already played. Repeatable content is essential to the lifeblood of the campaign in my mind because it helps casual and beginner GMs learn their GMing craft, and it can be important filler when you have players that have played EVERYTHING.

I recognize that it is a bit curmudgeonly of me to have GM who actively avoids repeatable scenarios reviewing repeatable content. So be it. But recognize this is also done out of love of the campaign. I adore Starfinder!

I was running Starfinder all weekend at a local convention, and we finally get to the Acquisitive mission in For the Factions. A vid show entertainer asks the player characters about their most memorable Starfinder Adventures so far, and all of my brand new players gushed about the interesting starship combats they were in.

I wanted to do a victory dance!

Dear Paizo Pathfinder Dev Team:

Looking over these forums, there are sure a lot of requests for a way to have an auto-scaling lore for one's background without being a gnome, or adopted by gnomes, and taking obsessive lore. This is especially desired by those of us in the OrgPlay community, who cannot solve this issue with a GM fiat.

Here's the longest thread on this subject, but I found tons of other requests asking for this ability.

I think this issue of people wanting a background lore that scales could be solved in one of two ways.

1) Change the FAQ for 'Additional Lore' to allow players to take it to auto-scale the lore from their background rather than on the brand new lore.

2) Create a new lore skill feat called 'Obsessed Professional' that auto-scales one's background lore for those non-gnomes who wish to go all in on their background lore.

I don't care which way the system chooses to go with this, but I would love for there to be an option for us!

Thank you sincerely,

One of my favorite aspects of PaizoCon is having the opportunity to meet Paizo Staff. Can we have a non-food Meet & Greet with Paizo Staff this year that will allow us to mingle with those staff members who will be attending the convention?

One suggestion that I have is maybe a board game event! We could play Starfinder or Pathfinder Munchkin, the new Goblin Fireworks board game or even the Adventure Card Game with staff members! Have an opportunity to chat and laugh in a relaxed manner, but still wearing masks.

Thoughts?

Hey all,

I gained access to the rare Time Traveler Background in PFS, which means that I could build a time traveler character! Since I often build gnomes who take the Gnome Obsession feat, it suddenly occurs to me... Does gnome obsession enhance all three of the background lores offered by the Time Traveler background?

Gnome Obsession wrote:
You might have a flighty nature, but when a topic captures your attention, you dive into it headfirst. Pick a Lore skill. You gain the trained proficiency rank in that skill. At 2nd level, you gain expert proficiency in the chosen Lore as well as the Lore granted by your background, if any. At 7th level you gain master proficiency in these Lore skills, and at 15th level you gain legendary proficiency in them.
Time Traveler wrote:

You come from a different time. Whether by your own doing or a terrible accident, powerful magic has resulted in you coming to this time from the future or from the past, but you are unable to return. You might be from New Thassilon, an entire nation of time travelers.

Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Dexterity or Intelligence, and one is a free ability boost.

You are trained in three Lore skills of your choice that represent your knowledge from your old time. You gain the Bend Time reaction.

Bend Time Free Action (occult, transmutation) Frequency once per day; Trigger Your turn begins; Effect You are quickened this turn. You can use your extra action to Stride.

At first, I thought that I would have to pick just one of the lores from the background, but now I have reread it, I am uncertain of this.

I think it would be fun over the holidays to come up with songs and song-parodies to celebrate all the ancestries in Pathfinder Second Edition. It's okay if we have multiple songs for an a given ancestry (some will be more popular than others) but I would love to see us write one for every ancestry, so they all get a little love. Share your songs! I would love to see them!

In another thread, someone made a comment about how hard it was get a Goloma character as they are rare, averse to danger and are frightened of other humanoids. So I thought that I would make a little song for them, because I figured that any goloma characters must surely be lonely.

♫ Oh Goloma, so many eyes come peepin' out your face!
With your watchful ways and careful gaze
There'll be no holes in your carapace!
Oh Goloma, ev'ry night I'm counting ACP*
In the Mwangi Expanse we'll soon dance
Just as soon as I can wrest you free! ♫

Hello Wonderful Orgplay Leadership Team!

I was wondering if we could make requests for Starfinder races to be added with ACP. I realize that not all races may be suitable for Organized Play, and that some may be held back for other boons. Still, it cannot hurt to ask, right?

★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★

One of the races that I am very interested in are the worlanisi, small blue humanoids with four arms and lots of luck. They reside in two places in Near Space:

1) The Planet Worlan
2) The Vault of Vorlath in the Preluria System.

They've even had an appearance in a scenario: SFS #3-15: The Preluria Connection by the amazing Tineke Bolleman.

I’ve been thinking about these forums and how we communicate with one another. I want this post to be more than just a general call for civil discourse. I’d like this thread to be a toolbox to help us figure out how to communicate. These are just my ideas, and I'd like to hear yours as well.

The forums would be a bland place if we all agreed with one another all the time. We need ways to disagree with one another without resorting to personal attacks or vitriol.

Note: I do not give hate speech a pass here. This is not an area where I am going to say, “Oh we all have different opinions, and that’s okay.” In my mind, it’s the most egregious form of vitriol, aimed at other people whose only crime is that they are different from you. If you post something hateful or bigoted, I’m going to flag your post and then post something supportive of those being maligned that does not quote you at all.

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

TOOLBOX item one - treat your fellow forumites like they are friends you have not met yet
We're all real people under these aliases, and we're part of a greater gaming community that often brings us together for conventions and other events. Knowing this, I try to imagine the real people that I'm responding to, every time I post.

I keep asking myself some key questions: if I were the person asking a question on these forums, what would I want to know? How would I want to be addressed? What would I find helpful? So I start with the paradigm that newcomers are friends who I want to feel welcome. I try to interpret their words in the best possible light, and I treat them like friends unless they prove to be otherwise. Acknowledge where they are coming from, and empathize with the problems they’ve stated.

TOOLBOX item two - signal to noise
If you really want others to listen to you I think that it helps to have a high signal to noise ratio. Be someone who’s worth reading. I’m not saying that we all have to be serious and completely on topic all the time. Filks, jokes and other entertaining frivolity are important to help us laugh together and to lighten the mood. Still, I do try to keep the signal up when I communicate on these forums. What do I mean by signal, over noise?

Noise:
Personal attacks on other posters
Repeating the same post / argument over and over in the same thread
Inflammatory tone or baiting
Being unwilling to consider or dismissive of other viewpoints / perspectives in a debate

Signal:
Calm tone — even when expressing dismay
Respectful and Considerate of other posters / points of view
Include details of problems or issues
Provide links, quotes, history, insights
Helpfulness — answering newcomer’s questions patiently
Offer potential solutions or ideas
Fun analyses — acknowledging potential blindspots or missing information.
Clear expression of thoughts
Willingness to change your mind sometimes in light of new information.
Be willing to listen. If you want to be heard - listen.

TOOLBOX item three - the summation
I think that one of the reasons people repeat themselves over and over in a forum argument is that they want to feel heard. One way that I like to handle this is by doing a summation (but snipping the vitriol and personal attacks out) of all the viewpoints expressed in the thread so far. Simply letting people know that their viewpoint was seen can be very calming. The summation also provides a high-signal post (without insults) that allows people on both sides of the argument to see the other person’s POV.

TOOLBOX item four - the redirect
If a thread that had a good conversation suddenly becomes toxic, don’t be afraid to redirect with a new observation, question, or something else to make the conversation productive again.

Also, if you want positive posts, put them out there. Compliment a fellow forumite who wrote something cool. Share your personal perspective. Put out the kind of posts you want to read.

TOOLBOX item five - step away
If you are super angry, or realize that you might be posting something that might get deleted later, take a deep breath and stay away for a bit. People have been wrong on the internet before. They will be wrong on the internet again. If you wait, one of two things will happen.

1) The problematic posts will be dealt with by the mods, and have gone away. Win!
2) The argument will still be there, and you can make a better response now that you’ve thought it through.

That’s my list, so far.
What’s yours?

I thought it would be fun to start a thread for the boons that I wish we could have in Society Play. What do you want to see? What sort of boons would be fun rather than overpowered? What would you be willing to spend ACP for in order to get for your character?

WHAT THIS THREAD COULD DO

One thing that might be helpful that this thread could do would be to help out the Org Play Leadership team by doing some suggestions and research. We could create suggested curated lists for future Avid Collector and Ancestral Adoption Boons, picking out Ancestry feats that don't require special physiology, or uncommon items that won't break the game and that someone would be willing to lay out 20 ACP to have.

VARIANT STYLE -- A Cosmetic Boon Suggestion

Or suggest other things that you would like to see as a boon in Organized Play. I'll start. I would love to get an item for Intimidate or Perform Acting, but I find the Demon Mask or Persona Mask both problematic, cosmetically. The Demon mask bugs me because none of my characters want to look like demons. The Persona mask bugs me because I imagine my characters acting with their whole face instead of wearing a stylized persona. I'd spend 20 ACP for a 'Variant Style' boon that would allow me to do a mild cosmetic reskins on one of these skill bonus magic items. Maybe my braggart kobold swashbuckler could get a mask that looks like a DRAGON to help him intimidate. Maybe the Persona Mask could be a hat, prop or wig.

What boons do you wish to see in Society Play?

They haven't played any Organized Play Pathfinder 2 stuff, but I have been mostly GMing Starfinder (and the occasional PF2 repeatable when needed) for my local venue. I'm not as familiar as I'd like to be with the PF2 storylines. As I was looking in dealership windows, the Cherav caught my eye. It's a solid vehicle. Decent speed, hover capability, and you can take your whole party with you when you need to go take out the trash! It's one of the few vehicles out there that can transport the whole party!

My issue is that the Cherav has only appeared in a specific scenario, and Starfinder Additional Resources does not list the availability of scenario equipment. Is this vehicle truly OrgPlay legal? Archives of Nethys lists it with the Sigil of the Open Road, but I want to make certain that I am not picking up suspect goods.

Hello wonderful OrgPlay Leadership Team!

I've been waiting for a thread to show up about this, but I haven't seen one yet. I believe there's a typo in the sanctioning document for Little Trouble in Big Absalom. It suggests that Little Trouble in Big Absalom is a quest that gives only 1XP, 1 reputation and 2 days downtime. But quests are much shorter than Little Trouble is.

Your average quest / bounty has 1 skill challenge and/or short roleplay section and 1 combat. It's meant for parties to get in and out of in about an hour. But the more that I look at Little Absalom, the more I am certain that it is a four hour adventure deserving of 4 XP, 4 Rep and 8 days downtime.

Summary of Encounters:

6 encounters, 3 of which are solvable in non-combat ways, 2 social encounters, 2 traps.

We fixed the table counts for Starfinder Free RPG day products to be in line with a scenarios, and we fixed the amount of money that the Commencement gave. Can we please fix this? A post in the product thread (and here) could be a start until the sanctioning document and the ACP calculations can be fixed.

    Hey all!

I'm glad that you decided to play with me.

Department of Expectations Management: due to a bunch of off-screen projects the GM will be minimally available to answer questions until the start of August. I have a whole bunch of imminent deadlines, so I won't be getting this game organized until then.

So... The combination of battle medicine, godless healing and mortal healing is very interesting, and one that I'm sure others have noticed as well. The character in question that I am considering would hail from Rahadoum and worried about the roles that gods play in the world. Because my healing would be much less effective in parties with Clerics and Champions, I think I would mainly bring her out in parties that lack them -- and I've seen a few of them, though clerics are fairly common in my local PFS area. Still, I also play online, so I have other routes and options. On the other hand... I could also have roleplay fun in a party with a cleric or a champion, where I gently ask them if they have considered the consequences of their entanglement with a deity, and how dangerous it is to allow a god power over your precious soul?

I am looking for advice for a chassis to apply this godless doctor concept. A plant-based druid could be interesting, as could a bard with Soothe or a Chiurgeon alchemist. The important thing is that I want to contribute to the party in a meaningful way beyond healing. Will I needlessly be nerfing my character if I go the route of Chiurgeon Alchemist? If I take Chiurgeon, I could still do the occasional bomb, but not be able to exclude party members.

I'd love advice on how I could make this character useful both in and out of combat. Advice on races and other classes would be appreciated as well. I think this character would likely be human, but if you have other suggestions, I am willing to hear them.

I am running a PBP where we are starting our seventh round of fighting jinsuls. It's been a long and nasty fight, and also a bit of a slog because the party currently lacks a dedicated melee damage dealer. But this party of skill monkeys all speak jinsul, and thus have been trading insults with the jinsuls all the way through.

The jinsuls have been responding with insults of their own.

For example, when one of the party members called them ugly, the jinsul responded, "You're so ugly... you're flankable!" Which all the other Jinsuls in the room thought was hilarious. The party found it funny too, since the operative in question turned out to not actually be flankable.

But even I am starting to run out of good material, and it may be several rounds more before my party wraps this monster of a fight up.

So I would love your suggestions. It's okay if some of them make little sense. I expect Jinsul humor to get lost in context.
