Where are my low-level Religion Bonus items?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Vigilant Seal

Let's take a look at this skill item bonus chart from Archives of Nethys. Where are the low-level Religion items? Almost every other skill has a level 3 or Level 4 item that boosts all uses of the skill. The Staff of Providence at Level 6 boosts Survival, and only boosts Religion for Recall Knowledge. After that, players have to wait until Levels 9 for their first Religion Skill item.

Why does this discrepancy exist?

Hmm

Oh look. Another spambot.

Yeah. Let's just hope that this thread doesn't blow up like the last spambot necrobumped thread did.

replying to a post from 4 days ago is hardly necrobumping, also what makes you think its a spambot, that seems like a pretty reasonable post to me?

And what was on that "basket random" site when you visited it?

Vigilant Seal

So... I never thought I would say it, but I am grateful for that spambot bumping my thread. So... let's talk not about basket randoms, but religious skill items.

If you're an Oracle, you really want to be good at your main magic skill, but it's based on wisdom rather than charisma. So I was hoping to find an item to help me out. Arcana has a lovely turban that also lets you Prestidigitate. Occultism has a pretty pendant that lets you cast Guidance. Now I get that there many, many types of religions, but surely there could be something lower level than the Lesser Cloister Robe at ninth level.

Maybe it can be a set of beads, or a portable altar, or even better, a tattoo representing your favorite faith. But I would like something. It doesn't even need to have a cantrip.

Heck, even Nature (yet another unloved skill when it comes to magic items) gets the Primeval Mistletoe at level 6 for all uses of nature, plus the Shillelaugh spell.

I would like some equity in Magic skill bonus items across traditions, please!

Portable Altar [+1 item bonus to checks made to conduct religious rites using Religion], level 3, uncommon
Sun Wheel [+1 item bonus to religion] level 3, rare
Insight Coffee, Double Coffee (Lesser) [+2 item bonus to religion] level 6, consumable
Serene Mutagen (Lesser/Moderate)) [+1/2 item bonus to religion] level 1/3, consumable

That's about it.

In addition to the random link inserted into the quoted text. The account had exactly one post - that one.

I think Kekkres like me, got to this thread after the spambot's post was removed. So all we see is Tess of Tosof's post looking for items, and then people complaining about the spambot.

Very likely, Kekkres never saw the spambot and didn't realize (as I'm assuming, although perhaps incorrectly) that post was removed.

Yeah, the post was removed. Which is fine - it wasn't worth reading in the first place.

So of these, the only permanent full bonus to Religion is a RARE item that is dedicated to Sarenrae. Even if I had access to it (and I could get access by GMing the adventure that it came from) I doubt that Pharasma would look kindly on Tess wielding the talisman of another deity.

I guess Tess needs to become a drinker of coffee... How expensive, and disappointing. Why is Religion without a low-level skill boost item?

Also, thank you for posting the list. I do appreciate that you found other items that offer a Religion bonus. Most appreciated.

My apologies to everyone for the grumpiness of the prior post. I let some real-life issues bleed into my commentary on these boards, and that's not okay. I think that I will give up on the concept of a religion item for Tess and concentrate my efforts on cool undead-fighting gear.

Hmm

Nature doesn't get a skill item until L6, and Primeval Mistletoe requires a free hand. Athletics gets items that help with a subset of checks, but doesn't get a general use item until L9. Religion is by no means the only Skill without a good L3 item.

Wayfinders Contributor

I can sort of get the limitation to subsets of Athletics, though. Athletics is very useful in combat for combat maneuvers. I just don't understand why Religion and Nature don't have parity with Arcana and Occultism.

No problem, glad it's useful. ;)

A thought came into my head,*what a strange experience*: Both Religion and Nature are Wisdom based. Could it be a balance issue?
I've noticed a dearth of Wisdom based classes since the CRB.

I could have sworn that the faith tattoo had a bonus to religion checks, but it hasn't. Funky.

Vigilant Seal

It would be ideal for Tess if it had. Alas.

Athletics gets the Lifting Belt at level 4 that not only gives a bonus to any Athletics check but increases the amount of Bulk you can carry.

I agree that it is strange that neither Religion nor Nature have a low level item giving an item bonus.

This is a nice item for my Chelaxian psychic/diabloic sorcerer multiclass character who worships Eiseth!

I've noticed that thievery, society, and crafting have issues with item availability.

Thievery's is almost exclusively things for disarming traps

Society literally just has the Choker of Elocution

Crafting has a few, but many of them are glasses and thus compete with perception boosting items. A number of them are also limited to specific types of crafting (alchemical crafting seeks popular for that), so like, if you want to be a more universal crafter, you're stuck with the Crafter's Eyepiece (unless you're an alchemist and guzzle mutagen all day on your downtime)
