The Exchange 1/5

1. Why are you a Pathfinder? Tariq is my first PFS character, made before there was a lot known about the Pathfinder Society. Therefore, his reasons for being a pathfinder are fairly weak and ill-defined. I usually just default to he is a pathfinder for opportunities to explore the world.

2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture? Tariq al'Abdsaren. While his name is inspired from certain Arabic naming conventions, or more likely my misunderstanding of them, it is twisted to be more appropriate to Golarion.

3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you? Tariq was born and raised in Qadira, near Katheer. Tariq is a devout follower of Sarenrae. That said he is not above making a profit when he can do so without unnecessarily bringing harm to others or to nature.

4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities? Tariq is a fairly typical member of the Keleshite ethnicity with black hair and tanned skin as well as his brown eyes. He is not overly strong but is still fairly toned. His dress is very dependant on where he is found. In official settings he is dressed in fine embroidered loose fitting clothes common to his homeland. When training his horses he is wearing more rugged gear appropriate to the task though still styled in a manner common to his homeland. He adjusts his attire as appropriate to the current climate, but does not necessarily change his attire to “color-coordinate” with his surroundings.

5. What do you love? Samir his animal companion; Family; Nature; Sarenrae; Fair Profit

6. What do you hate? Despoilers of nature and abusers of wildlife; cheats; those who do not value hard work and commitment; Druids who think you have to be uncivilized and/or uncouth to revere nature; The traitor b+$$# Pasha Mualia al’Jakri.

7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival? Tariq has no long standing relationships with any other pathfinders(PCs) he has worked with many and has found many he likes and some he dislikes. Tariq looks up to Trade Prince Aaqir al’Hakam as both a mentor and as proof that you can pursue profit and still maintain your honor.

8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu? The strongest influence on Tariq from his Keleshite heritage is his devotion to Sarenrae. He dislikes slavery despite its acceptance in his homeland but he is not a fanatical abolitionist.

9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries? Tariq’s recent death and return has given him a new serenity towards the issue of death. That said his biggest fear would be to be cut off from contact with everything while being preserved in life.

10. What is your most treasured possession? By most people’s standards Salim, Tariq’s animal companion, would be his most treasured possession. However Tariq does not consider Salim property but rather a companion. Despite his Mercantile nature and affiliation, Tariq does not place much value on any specific possession, the closest he would come would be, Mezerah Shams, his Ranch where he raises and trains horses.

If you have too many shrunken-buffalo figurines, load them on a buffalo and shrink it!

That is awesome.

What level is this character, and what the heck does he have that wieghs 4000 lbs? I can kind of see having enough stuff to need to do one buffalo, but 4?

He is a 5 druid. He carries anything and everything he can get his hands on. Battering Rams, collapsible bathtubs, flasks of oil, a barrel of ale and barrel of mead...basically he is a walking merchant caravan. Last mod he loaded up on grain to give to specific monastery since he thought the society was being pretty stinge.

I think the character concept is interesting but wanted to make sure I was not missing something ruleswise. Since the spell really has does not have a size limit and is permanent one wonders why this would not happen everywhere. A druid would make an awesome merchant

Though not the druid of which you speak, I nonetheless concur that I make an awesome merchant... :P

"A pleasure." Tariq nodes and then turns to walk back to his seat distractedly. After a few steps he turns halfways back, "Well if you need a witness for the guard I will be happy to provide such. Otherwise I should return to my work." With that he sits back down and begins going over his notes while absently rubbing the holy symbol of Sarenrae he wears around his neck.

The Exchange

A young Human of obvious Kelesh decent closes his ledgers and walks to the back door, "Indeed they are, though from what I saw you should have nothing to fear from the guard, you were clearly acting in self-defense."

He gives a small bow and extends his hand in greeting, "I am Trade Prince Tariq Al'Abdsaren. Might I ask the nature of the man's disagreement with you?"

The druids with double digit charisma support group will be held monthly at the absolom tea cozy. Ive reserved a table for two in the back.

I don't need a support group a support group, I have money.

<twenty minutes later>

He was so unlikable even his own Animal Companion would not listen to him. I had to give his AC commands, and he looked down on me for being too civilized.

Well met, Princess - but you misunderstand me. As a Pathfinder and Lamplighter, my loyalty is to the Society - as you, I was taken in by the Society and consider it to be a part of my family.

However, the trade Prince has long purported to represent Qadiran interests to the Society, and has sent countless agents into danger to act on behalf of what they thought were the Satrap's wishes. This latest episode reveals that Aaqir al'Hakam acts only on behalf of his own interests, and thus many Pathfinders have fought and died for nothing more than to line his pockets. In my homeland, this baseless betrayal must be met with a blood feud that can only be resolved by the redemption or death of the offender.

I ask our brother and sisters who purport to care only about personal riches to consider the following: what riches have you obtained by being a criminal's pawn? Are you richer than your fellow Pathfinders? Have you gained personal power, prestige, or fame beyond your colleagues? Based on the observable facts, the Exchange will suffer the same fate as the Szcarni it was birthed from: encouraging Society members to take on additional risk and sow dissension in our ranks, with NO measurable benefit.

Al'Hakam has used you, and will continue to use you as long as the Society lets him. Walk away, and find a cause worth dedicating your life to. For myself, I choose the Pathfinder Society.

I am disgusted by your baseless mischaracterization of Trade Prince Hakam. In the past he has passed on orders that fit within the expectations of the Satrap, I doubt the Satrap took the time to give out specific assignments, such an illustrious individual is surely to busy for that. Trade Prince Hakam, while acting as the Qadiran representative is certainly still allowed to pursue his own interests in his own time. Never has Trade Prince Hakam given me a mission that was not in the best interests of Qadira.

He has not betrayed anyone. He has acted lawfully in all things and when he felt that he would rather move his focus to his own personal interests and focus more on trade he rightfully, and legally, stepped down from his position as a representative. Where is this betrayal you speak of? I see none.

I too am a son of Qadira, I too follow the guidance of Sarenrae, and I have died in the service of the Society. I truly believe that I am a richer man for my association with Aaqir al'Hakam. Hell, I do not believe that I would be standing here talking to you now were it not for the Trade Prince's actions on my behalf.

In the end Qadira's coffers will be enriched by any endeavor that Trade Prince al'Hakam undertakes, and this endeavor will enrich those same coffers all the more.

If you wish no part of the Exchange I, and I imagine Trade Prince Hakam as well, wish you no ill and all the success that you can find for yourself. If you continue to pursue this campaign of slander against Trade Prince Hakam and the Exchange then we will have a problem.

Go in the Light of Sarenrae,
Trade Princ Tariq al'Abdsaren

I cannot speak for all of my cousins, but I do not see benefit in this...merger. Being Sczarni is more than simply making money. Well, that's a lot of it, but it's also about a very important concept: family. Family you can trust. Family you can depend on. Family will support you. Family will avenge you.

I see none of this in this "Exchange". I see none of this in this...prince person. How can we trust such an individual who so casually abandons his country...his family, if you will. I know I cannot.

This merger does not bode well for us, my cousins. We may very well have to strike out on our own and find our own way. The way of family.

Your cousin,

El Fuego

El Fuego,

I can assure you that Trade-Prince Hakam is very much a family man. He has three lovely daughters that he, alongside his partner, are raising. I imagine that this move will enable him the freedom to spend more time them all, without failing in his duties to the Exchange.

Also if you can imagine that he has in any way casually abandoned his country then you are a great fool.

Either way I urge you to give this endeavor a true try before declaring it a waste of your time. I too have reservations, but I intend to give this endeavor my best.

Your new ally,
Trade-Prince Tariq al'Abdsaren

Gold can always be found in the company of dwarves even if they grasp it tightly. Count me in.

I'm none to keen on roaming the land of vampires though. The pay better be worth it.

While I am not from either of those lands I believe the land with more than its fair share of Vampires is Ustalav, not Varisia, though they both have a large population of Varisians so perhaps I am mistaken.

The Exchange

A well dressed Keleshite man extends his hand in greeting,
"I am Tariq, son of Faris. Greetings, and may Sarenrae's blessings shine upon you as the sun. Should you need a good mount, or well made leather goods, please let me know."

Turning to Quassir,
"Worry not over your fame, for Sarenrae's Light shines on all, no matter their stature, in size or standing. Each of us shines bright in the eyes of the goddess, and should she will it, we will be lauded before the masses. We will experience the dawning of our glory in the time of her choosing."
