Appearance:
Before you stands a tall, thin man with deeply tanned skin. He wears a jovial expression and a long, black, immaculately maintained beard on his attractive face. His carefully maintained hair is cropped short, and his black eyes radiate intelligence. The man's clothing is as fashionable and well kept as his features, and includes brown and red robes, a dark green cloak, and a wide brimmed brown hat. His boots and gloves are fine leather and match the shade of his robe. A small, light purple bird sits on the man's shoulder, occasionally flitting onto his carved walking staff. A small crossbow hangs next to the man's backpack, and he carries a scroll case and a large, rune-covered book.
Personality:
Tarias, unlike many wizards, is very outgoing and personable. A born charmer, he talks first and casts spells later. Tarias tends to make jokes, but avoids making others the butt of them. He is kind, thoughtful, and doesn't take offense easily. His loyalty knows no bounds for friends, but Tarias holds no love for authority. Tarias strives to be a mediator when arguments happen, and always tries to end disputes without violence, since he sees killing as the ultimate destroyer of freedom. His two great passions in life are magic and women, but his personal code dictates that he never uses the first to get the second. While he loves magic and women, he values freedom even more, and not just his own. Nothing makes Tarias more angry than those who abuse their position or power to take advantage of the weak. Tarias understands that he is very intelligent and that his power over the arcane puts him at an advantage over other people, but he strives to be humble, or at least to avoid being arrogant. Furthermore, he strives to embody the tenets of his personal code, which is partially based on the code of Philaha's church. The Code is fairly simple:
Background:
Tarias is the son of a simple farmer, Mallus Malasir, and his wife, Tanira, who own a tiny farm on the small island nation called Ovis. Tarias's incredible intellect became apparent at a young age. He spoke his first words at 4 months and was reading adults books by himself by three years old. Tarias soon ran out of books, as farmers can only afford a few of such things, and began to borrow books from each of the family's neighbors. Even that was quickly exhausted, and Tanira worried that the lack of things to learn from would stifle her brilliant son's intellect. She convinced Mallus to allow Tarias to be apprenticed to a nearby hermit, scholar, and magician named Barsin. Tarias's lot greatly improved with his apprenticeship. He gained access to a huge library on divertgent topics, and a man who had read many libraries more books besides. The hermit himself was strict but caring and charismatic, and taught the young boy not just magic, but history, diplomacy, logic, natural science, mathematics, alchemy, and planar cosmology. The boy displayed a silver tongue, and Barsin helped him hone it, eventually telling him that, "The only thing you're more skilled at than magic is talking your way into some lass's skirts." When Tarias turned 20, Barsin declared that his apprenticeship was at an end and to learn more the young man would have to see the world for himself. The old hermit gave the boy a fair bit of gold for ship passage and sent him to New Xenobia. Tarias travelled about this new land and learned of its ways and culture, frequenting libraries and magical academies along the way. He observed the floating islands, though he couldn't access them. And of course, he pursued women with reckless abandon. After a few years he once again booked passage, this time to the island known as Valeria. He visited the sites of famous battles, such as the famous castle known as "The Swan", and even viewed the storied Hanging Gardens, Palace of the Dead, and Ruins of San Bronsa from afar. He eventually departed from the island, leaving via the port of Golyat, the village where the Valerian revolution began. This time he booked passage for the Holy Lodissian Empire. His stay here was fairly short, his disgust for Lodis's tyrannical government growing each day he stayed. He would go on to revisit Valeria and Xenobia, and last trip was to far off Balboede, where fusils are made. After years spent in far off lands with no news of Ovis, Tarias returned to find Lodis occupying his homeland. He has spent the short time since searching for a way to help take back the island.
