[spoiler=Background]
Taal'Karn vas Tonbar was born on the factory ship Tonbar, he crew up a factory worker in the massive ship. As soon as he became a teenager Taal joined the Quarian military, this was on the eve of the return to the "known galaxy".

Taal proved to be adept at piloting and was quickly given a "Worm" class troop transport, now Taal has been sent on a strike mission deep into Duretei space to reinforce the Confederate allies of the Quarians...

Personality:

Taal unlike most Quarians has never participated in a pilgrimage, joining the Quarian military is considered to fulfill that tradition. Taal himself joined because he wanted out of the grounded hold of his ship, he proved ideal for the prestigious position of pilot (all Quarian pilots are considered officers and naturally have it better then the average grunt).

Taal also joined for another reason, a reason that virtually all Quarians share: Rannoch. The one thing that seems to light a fire in Taal's eyes is the prospect of reclaiming the homeworld.

Taal is mostly a cool individual, he understands that the key to success under pressure is self control. However some things will naturally draw his ire and inner snark, for like most Quarians Taal is a racist: the Duretei and their pet "scientists" are below animals in his view.

His views on the other races can be summed up as this, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
