I've noted everyone's daily tasks and besides Simeon, if everyone feels fine we can move on to Day 3? I assume he lets everyone know about the unnatural hole in the lake...

Yeah, I'm around too. Day two was a flop for the most part for Ysanne. She spends the dreary wet evening by keeping mostly to herself and waiting for the next day unless someone wishes to engage with her.

Vem is always ready to pester the Raven.

Vem to Ysanne:

Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Vem had been sitting in the rafters of the still ruined house, planning out the finer details of her trap. Using the decrepit building since it's layout was the same, and this one saw less traffic; when she noticed Ysanne enter.

Wrapping her legs around the beam she lets herself hang from the rafter upside down to grab Ysanne's ear, her hands cold as usual.

"No one ever listens to Vem; the Raven shouldn't wander alone. You said you couldn't focus earlier, wicked thing. Why is this? Melancholy fits the Raven she agrees, but it was not so at the monastery she notices. What about this place disturbs you so?"

Also, Vem's stealth checks, I don't think I've seen it below 20 yet lol. Clearly she is going to get that natural 1 the first time she actually needs it.

Also since Raito is not aware of the activities in the lake, he works on the roofs with the others to make sure all the roofs will provide protection from the rain or at least more places than the previous nights. This includes gathering resources with one or more players. When completed or can not work on it any longer, he will try again to make a Daikyu with his previous creation from last night and whatever scraps around the village he can find.

Well, I described the hole earlier so until Simeon states he surfaces and divulges, feel free to move on to Day 3. This is the last day of the challenge. The weather persists in being torrential.

Hey, GM, Simeon made a bunch of Fort. Save rolls to swim down really deep without dying from the pressure.
Did he not find anything different? Does the tunnel go more than 700 feet down?
He can't tell us what he found if he doesn't know. Thanks!

The next morning Thorrpe finds Mhar and wakes him with a puppy in the face.

Wo you made our plans what are we doing today?

Female Human Sorcerer (Celestial) Lv. 2 - AC 12/15MA - HP 15/15 - F+1,R+1,W+4 - Perc.+5, SM+5 - Init.+2

Jez is not particularly good at swimming, so unless her help is specifically requested, she would probably avoid the depths of the lake, even if Simeon describes a tunnel there.

Unless Mhar or someone has a different request, she probably continues with various roof repairs and assists Zayne (and Thorrpe, if he's still helping us) with structural integrity construction support.

After they finish the one best-condition house and the firepit/smokehouse shelter, if they have extra time, they would probably move on to work on the second house, and then the large communal building if they finish the second house.

Throughout the day, Jezelyn would continue to use her dancing lights to aid with visibility and would periodically use her magic to dry and clean not only herself and her stuff, but anyone and anything else nearby. :)

Male Human (multi-ethnic) "神託" [Oracle (Dual Cursed)] 2 | AC 15 T 8 FF 15 | HP 16/16 | F +2 R -2 W +3 | Init -2

Mhar would wake up to puppy innaface!

He'd laugh, play for a moment, before looking at Thorrpe to answer his question. Pulling out his lists, he'd show what different people were up to, and who was on what duty. "So for me, I'll still be working on Rai's armor, or, if they need me to, moving things from place to place. Slowly." he grins.

He'd request of Jezelyn that she ensure everyone (and their basic spaces and locations) are clean and dry, courtesy of her magic, and otherwise ensure people knew what they were going after.

He'd also request of Ysanne that she assist him in his crafting attempts.

Beyond that, he'd make water as-needed, assist in the general display of fake decrepitude, and continue refining the long-term designs for tranquility in the midst of potential war.

M

I would continue what I was doing yesterday. Spirit, am I right in assuming it would take more than 3 days to make even one building livable? You described them as ruined so I assumed there wasn't much to work with.

Vem and Tsanne:

Its the cage without bars that bothers me when I'm awake, and the dreams of long ago that haunt me in my sleep. Ysanne tugs her ear free of Vem's icy touch. Building houses and the work do not calm this soul. They have brought us here to ensure their survival. We live so strangers' in time and place can hold on to their insignificant moment...

She sighs, stopping herself. By the gods I am filled with gloom. Here's hoping tomorrow carries better tidings, and weather.

Ah, did not see the fortitude saves!

The hole curves out after a couple hundred feet and ends up in a large air pocket. The cavern is luminous much like the tunnel. At the far end of the of the chamber the entire rock wall seems to have undergone a quite sever collapse. Whatever came through or passed by here seems to be long gone, with only debris left behind.

"I thoroughly concur, Zayne." Mhar adds.

"It seems to me that some of us are just uncomfortable owing a debt. That's fair: we each have our own weaknesses and inabilities. What is not fair is to characterize what we have as some sort of malevolence on the part of those who raised us. Is it possible? Of course. But to presume before proof is the height of misanthropy."

He pauses for attention and dramatic effect.

"They have done no wrong to us that we know of, have preserved our bodies and our belongings, and allowed us to be raised from the dead. Yes, they gain benefit - but why should they not? Yes, they have requirements of us - but that only makes sense. Yes, they may have been able to raise us before - but they may have not. Yes, they have required that we join them or return to death - but we were already dead: it was a courtesy, allowing us to 'opt out' if we couldn't accept their offer."

He looks around. "As for me, I knew when I accepted that there may be consequences down the line. Hence, I warned them: I would follow this cause so long as I believed said cause to be just. I would do what needs to be done. Should we become aware of sinister motives, sinister plans, or sinister aught else, then - and only then - can we place blame at their feet."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 This does not allow Mhar to control anyone. It does allow you to know how persuasive he's being. In general, according to the hardline, with a 25 diplomacy check, a hostile creature with no charisma modifier would be unfriendly, and unfriendly creature would be friendly, and anything else would be helpful with this kind of roll. It also supposedly only lasts for 1d4 hours. Your characters, however, are not NPCs, and are not forced to go along with this - either the specific shift or the duration. It is a role-playing tool, not a "I control what your character does" tool. Please take this as the former, not the latter. :)

"That said," he adds, "we need not go in blindly. I did not. Instead, we keep our eyes open. We trust them, yes, but we also don't fail at our guard. Let us work towards what we can, work with how we must, and do what we need. Currently, they are providing a place for us to live. Let us claim it. They are providing training. Let us embrace it. They are providing information. Let us use that to our advantage. If they are speaking truth, this can only help them, to have independent and willing agents who seek out their own truths. If they are lying, than we will learn, and we will react accordingly."

He looks around. "But for now? This is where we are. If you choose to be unhappy, or cannot help but be unhappy through some flaw or difficulty, so be it. But to presume the worst motives of those who raised us (something that is normally quite expensive) and to purposefully attempt to degrade their character in the eyes of others by utilizing words that have cruel connotations is, itself, a cruel thing. They are not slave owners. They are authorities, yes, but not slave owners. This helps them... but it helps us. Let us do both."

He smiles.

"So... who's up for Jian's fruit and berries?" he looks at the hunter, recently returned from success.

"Mhar, your implications and presumptions are insulting. We all choose to be puppets because death is not a choice! No sane person would choose to die when there is always hope of freedom without the threat of doom hanging over us. Also you're implying that it is through mental impediment that some of us, like myself, can not find the silver lining in being a ghoul raised from the dead to wage war on people that have declared no open hostilities towards the Seiki; their words, not mine. Which one of you have spoken to the Seiki's enemies? Who here has seen their side of the conflict before vowing to take their blood? A just cause for fools that only see one side of the coin before calling sides."

Ysanne pauses to let the question linger before saying in a ever increasingly passionate tone, "Pull the blindfold of ignorance from your eyes and see the Seiki as the desperate cornered animals that they are. I have proof of their maliciousness, and errant purpose." Ysanne spreads her arms around with open hands to signify everyone listening."It's right here, every one of us. We're the proof! Don't tell me to like it when I'm forced to end another man's life, a mother's son, or a father's boy because the Seiki give me the choice of kill or be killed!"

Ysanne fueled with frustration throws her arms up and storms out of the camp and off someplace in the rain, to where it matters not.

death is always a choice. We were given the opportunity for a second chance. They did not kill us we died. They told us the price and we accepted. If you choose to be bitter that is your choice but none if us was blind. Stop acting like a spoiled child and accept that you gave your word and honor it. If you find you cannot then you leave them with a choice of their own.

Jezelyn would follow Ysanne, and, if she lets her, speak to her quietly:

Jez to Ysanne:
"I can understand your frustration. There is much we do not yet know. And it is indeed possible that some ill intent exists in the hearts of the monks or that some noble purpose exists in the actions of their enemies. For now, however, all we can do is make the most of the training and opportunities offered to us, with the hope, as you said, of future freedom. When and if we are actually asked to take a life, we can evaluate then whether it is justified before we take action. I know that several of the others and I made our pledges to take up the monks cause so long as it is just. It sounds just to me, based on the limited information we have at present. However, when we learn more, if we find that it is not a just cause, we can reconsider our options then."

Game is not dead I assure you, just out of juice as Raitoningu mentioned. I don't normally do this but I feel that this round of montage is taking a very long time and isn't as action packed and fun as I imagined it to be. This isn't a story on repairing houses and I apologize for this brief foray into more "meh" territory. Therefore, please accept the following fast forward and my apologies for doing so. I simply feel that even my motivation has gone down and writing up complete "wrap ups" of three days fixing houses is rather lackluster for everyone here. You are heroes (even you evil ones) and deserve a befitting campaign.

Extreme Fastforward
The last days repairing the village go by quickly and smoothly despite the weather conditions. The hole in the lake did not go unnoticed but the passageway is too hazardous to navigate.

Shen returns and is pleased with the work and ideas put into the repairs.

"You have done extremely well. I am more than pleased at what you managed to accomplish with so little time."

"In response to your questions as to what caused this place's destruction, even we are at a loss. We do know it was a monster that did this, but ignore which one and why."

"Now, it is time we began more serious training. Follow me."

===

As the days, weeks and then months pass, you feel yourselves becoming stronger, smarter and more learned.

Though you are never let far from your village nor the monastery you each pick up rudimentary skills including learning basic Kotan (I will mark when you can translate).

You all reach 2nd Level. You may decide any action that would have taken a year or so to do, such as crafting to be possible to complete.

Now, assembled together at the monastery on your final night, you have been each asked to prepare a short speech on the subject of your first mission: the assassination of the colonial merchant lord Tristan Prynce.

Any questions, let me know.

"Pardon me. Although we are, of course, grateful for the training we have received, I believe we need more information about our upcoming mission in order to know how to feel about it and how to approach it, much less make a speech about it.
First, there is the question of purpose:
Who is colonial merchant lord Tristan Prynce, and what has he specifically done that deserves death?
How can we verify the accuracy of these claims?
And, why is assassination the preferred outcome over diplomacy or capture?
Once these questions are satisfactorily answered, there are, of course, many questions of practicalities, including, where do we find him, what defenses does he have, and what resources or contacts do we have available to us?
"

Yes assassination is an extreme measure...though some of us here are certainly skilled in such things I suspect...

Sorry, a part of my text actually got cut off when I Copied-Pasted, essentially the entirety of the mission details.

Tristan Prynce is a slave trader and colonial merchant holed up in Ame Bay. From his colonial manor he oversees a significant monopoly on all fishing and commerce in the region.[/n]

[b]By assassination, we do not necessarily mean death. We do however, need to regain control over Ame Bay. An important first step in reclaiming our lands from the colonials requires the use of this secluded and fortified natural harbor.

You will find him most likely in his manorhouse. Getting there is simple, you will be able to freely walk there. As gaijin the chances of you being stopped is low. We know he employs over three dozen guards but within his manorhouse we have no eyes and ears. While you attack the manorhouse we will take care of causing ample distractions within the town. As for contacts, we have an ally waiting for you at Ame Bay. She will be staying at the Shirozai Ryokan.

M

We'll look into it.

To whoever is near when we are out of earshot of Shen.

We'll make a decision when we see the situation.

Edit-Weren't we gonna split after the training for the missions?

For the speech, I nominate Jez to speak on my behalf. Her words will do just as well as mine if not better, and I would rather spare the honorable of my childish moral concerns.

So how long do we have to accomplish the mission? Is time on our side here? What of equipment? Are we to accomplish our task with 301 year old relics?
