Be aware, I still threaten you in that square.

EDIT: Drink a mutagen doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity.

Rai looks at the raft and if it is assemble with vines or rope, he goes about cutting them to scuttle the raft. The objective is to keep the boarders from boarding and it is supposed to be unfair. Therefore scuttling the raft achieves both goals. Besides, Rai is not a naval Samurai and the last time everyone was on the water, they all died.

Rai is the center of the raft cutting ropes or is ready to repel boarders if it is not a raft assembled with ropes like the ancient/stranded on an island raft I am thinking of.

I didnt even think about this, that is just nasty and very smart, another idea could be to literally set it on fire. Also Rai i like the way you think.

I thought the tactic was a good one because what is a Ronin? In some cases, indirectly, it was a rebel Samurai who went against the established "norm" and were the masters of their own destiny. Yes, you could argue what happen to his control when the Salvation sunk? Well, he didn't have to get on that ship, didn't he? With few exceptions, ahem the Salvation, Rai is the master of his own destiny. Also, how realistic is a boat fight in 3 feet of water? The test is testing something else, not naval warefare.

Wow I guess Rai is the only one who really understood the purpose of the test... Damn no victory for us then...

Braeth, seeing his current target drop to the ground after taking a chakram in the shoulder, turns his attention to the warrior who is not paying attention t the battle as he attacks the raft You can't dodge what you can't see he thinks with a vicious grin

Attacking Rai who I guess is flat-footed if he is trying to cut down the raft?

Attacking Rai: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Damage Rai: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7 added the +2 from favoured enemy that I forgot for Thorrpe, lucky for him ;)

A loud laugh echoes throughout the pond as Raitoningu hacks into the raft, easily sundering the bamboo and reed structure. Those still on the raft soon find themselves falling into the pond, including Raitoningu.

Everyone in various stages of being wet, turn to see Shen Fei wading into the water with a smile on his face.

"Remarkable. Everyone eventually realizes it sooner or later but you are the first to do so instinctively Raitoningu."

He looks at all of you with a wry smile.

"In the course of your life with Seikei, you may one day find yourselves in a dire situation such as this. Whether it is a place or an object, the enemy must never be allowed to have it. Of course, we would expect you to first try and defend your objective."

"The training also served to open your eyes to the reality that Kotei is a land of rules. I gave you but one rule: Do not let the enemy take the raft. You may often find yourselves constrained by traditions and laws in Kotei but remember that there are always other ways to interpret rules and bypass them. While you could certainly have murdered your allies, hardly the easiest option, you could have decided to all grab the raft and take it away from the pond, persuade your friends to not board the raft... and even destroy the raft as you just did."

He gestures for you all to wade out of the pond.

"I will clean up from here, you are all free to return to the monastery. I hope you all learned a little something valuable today."

Training Bonuses:

1) A +1 bonus to Acrobatics. Fighting on a raft and in waist deep muck is no easy task.

2) A +1 bonus to Knowledge (local). You learned something quite valuable about Kotan traditions and life today.

3) (Only available to those who took damage from an ally) A +1 bonus to initiative. You will certainly not let anyone, especially one of these people, get the best of you again.

===

I will let you RP a bit and post the next Training later tonight. I thought this would have lasted longer until someone realized but well, maybe the next one will be easier.

I also realize that we may often need to deal with complicated combat situations. I advise you to use spoiler tags with Rules Questions as the tag to make it easier for me to catch when someone's asking a question or unsure. On my end, I will try and give all the information as clearly as possible.

And not to call out Vem, since her attack was actually totally awesome, but let's try and make sure we all know just what we can do/cannot do with our characters. I do want to thank Vem for being perfectly honest and verifying her actions.

So far, we have a great team here and each one of you is making this adventure awesome! 5 Training days to go, and then you all get a surprise!

Just as he was about to attempt to climb onto the raft it began to disintegrate and he was unable to do anything. Soon everyone was in the water and he was about to cheer. Someone had destroyed the raft. They had won! Then Shen Fei spoke and Simeon was very confused, didn't they take the raft? Now that their enemies were without a raft weren't they the losers? He stopped and scratched his head. He now had a lot to think about. Interpreting rules sounds like a lawyer. He realised how much about this land that he didn't know. Perhaps he should decide to read a book and learn something for once in his life.

Before sundering the raft, Rai feels something penetrate his armor and cut into his skin. As he feels warm blood, his own, trickle down his skin, he releases a loud war cry, ICEEE!!! And with that, he sunders the raft into splinters. After falling in the water, he quickly stands up and grabs the hilt of his Katana with his right hand, partially takes it out of the scabbard, and takes a stable martial arts stance ready to challenge his assailant or immediate aggressor. As soon as the Sensei calls the training as complete and realizing no more aggressors were at play, Rai stands up from his stance, draws his Katana, shakes the water off his blade, and sheathes it. Then he repeats the same with his wakizashi. Then he looks down at the weapon that is sticking in his skin. To be continued once I confirm the weapon was Braeth's Chakram or something else...

Phew. So, does, Vem stop when the Sensai calls the training to a halt?
It would be Jezelyn's turn, and she would definitely be tensed to respond to Vem having stabbed her, but she would hold her action to make sure Vem wasn't going to take advantage of the situation and attack again. In rules lingo, she would ready her standard action to touch attack Vem with a spell, if and only if Vem started another attack against her. If Vem is going to respect the stop of the exercise, then Jezelyn would step away from her, nod at the Sensai, then turn again to Vem and say,
"Good hit. I was unprepared for you to abandon the raft to attack me. This is a good lesson for me to learn."

Well crap. I had the same thought but Zayne would have waited till things had gotten out of control. He wouldn't have been so quick to grasp the point of the exercise. Oh well. Rai can shine today.

Zayne watches as the attackers and defenders begin to escalate their attacks. He had intended to end the fight early by causing the defenders to fall off but many of them were too surefooted to be taken by surprise. Instead it is Rai who grasps the situation the best and comes up with the better solution. With one accurate strike he cleaves the ropes binding the raft together and the whole thing falls apart. No more raft, no more reason to fight. Seeing the fight coming to a close he approaches Rai and claps him on the shoulder.

A wise move. Its a shame though, I wanted to see how our skills stacked against each other.

As they chat if they do he watches to make sure the others recognize the fight is over too, intending to step in if things get out of control.

2nd Day of Training - Late Spring
Time Passed Since Awakening: 2 Months

You have all been once again gathered for another collective training. Again, Shen Fei will be your instructor. This time around you find yourselves gathered outside the ruins of an abandoned village.

"Welcome back students. I would love to say that you find yourselves at another training involving a brilliant twist. This is not the case. Before you stand the ruins of Jialong, once a quiet fishing thorpe. Today is less of a training then a chance for me to glimpse at your method of thinking and each of your personal aptitudes."

"The Path would dearly love to restore this settlement, it being quite secluded and close to a lake. In fact, we mean to grant this place to you as your new home."

"The ruins consist of four buildings. Two I seem to recall were homes, one was a former communal building and the other served as a smokehouse for the small fishing boats which you can see wrecked near the docks. I will leave and return three days later. By that time, I want to see what you have accomplished here."

With a bow and no further explanations, he departs.

===

No skill checks or rolls of any kind are needed. Simply state what you do on the first day (for now. We'll reach day 2 and 3 later) to restore the town. You do need to prove that you'd have the skill, ability or resources capable of doing such an action. Assume you can take 10 or 20 on any roll you would need to. The objective is to discover your character's non-combative resources and see to getting some teamwork going between some of the characters not normally together. This latter part will come in handy in a few days.

===

Extra info: The buildings are in ruins, the place is ovverun with weeds, the lake has two small fishing wrecks, there are wild animals roaming around, the well has something dead inside it, there are no more fields to grow food and etc.

Well obviously the first part of surviving out in the wild is to get shelter, then food and finally fire. Feels good to be back in my element he thinks at ease with the situation

Braeth looks around at the group evaluating their capacity to help with these tasks Magic will make starting a fire much easier thats for sure, might also help with the shelter if it can provide cover from the rain and elements. The others can always try and help with the more mundane tasks..

He calls out to the others "Any of you mages got some skill with fire? Would save me the trouble of having to try and start one myself. The rest of us should work on trying to build a shelter and gathering food for the party unless someone disagrees?"

Before Mhar does anything else, he'd gather everyone together, as they are willing, and perform services to honor the memory and spirit of those who died (well or otherwise) in the events that led to destruction here. He'd ask forgiveness, honor, protection, and peace: they are not here to steal, but to bring life here once again, honoring those who once lived here. He'd set up a small shrine of rocks in this service, accepting an help offered - he'd struggle through regardless.

After that, Mhar begins mending... a lot; at least insomuch as he can, restoring all the buildings or other lost elements that he can. He also provides pure water on the off chance there are poisons or diseases or parasites in the lake or other water sources. He would purify everything -food or drink - anyone imbibes.

Using his chalk and writing implements, he'd work on getting everyone organized, and getting a plan in action. While obviously folk are free to ignore or adapt (he encourages the latter) the plan is for the benefit of all utilizing their skills and talents best, with their own input to decide it.

He'd encourage those with more martial training toward defensive constructions and those of more naturalist abilities toward animal-handling and resource wrangling.

Casters would be organized by spells.

Everyone else would be on guard and manual duty.

Anyone that has good ideas differing from this general plan would be worked in, so long as getting shelter, food, and healthy warmth is satisfied.

He'd also strongly recommend they build with stone, if possible: he's not eager to see another village burned down any time soon. He'd also be sure to pray over and bless everything they take, praying to the spirits for peace, forgiveness, protection, and honor.

EDIT: I didn't say, but he'd use his diplomacy, knowledge of both local and history, and survival to help out.

EDIT 2: also, he'd continue using this time to cobble piecemeal armor for the interested. Simply PM me, if you want one. Semi-NINJA'D edit: You are correct, Braethe, hence use of "at least insomuch as he can". :)

From what I can see from the mending spell you would still need new materials to help mend a destroyed building considering some or all of the materials included in its construction burned down or were worn out by time and the elements. Could be part of a survival check.

Braeth nods in Jezelyn's direction, acknowledging her skills and capabilities.
"I think Mhar has the right idea, I would go with anyone who has a modicum of skill at foraging to gather food and materials for the camp while the rest stay behind to help clean up the area and begin builing fortifications. Any objections?"

As for survival checks I have a +5 bonus so I don't know if I'm the most qualified here or not. Anyone else got more?

@Spirit, please disregard my previous post. I see all of the info that I need now.

Braeth as a Ranger, because of the well's most likely contaminated status you know that starting a fire is priority. At the same time, people should rig themselves up and clean out the well. Then boil our water until the well has time to flush itself out with our help of using the water by boiling it or throwing it out. Shelter in the spring is next, followed by food.

People can not survive without water from as little as 1 day to 10 days max depending on how well everyone is hydrated to this point and the climate. Given the extreme humidity in most Asian settings, I would say it is 1 to 3 days max. In our current climate, the days will be from warm to hot. The nights maybe be cool but with a fire that will keep us warm. Due to the combination of warm and cold air, we have to worry about severe thunderstorms ranging from light tornadic activity, tropical depressions, to typhoons.

I forgot I had Knowledge(engineering). The first thing I would do is help gather firewood, enough for today and tomorrow, then get to work on the structures so we have a shelter. Mhar's mend could be of use and I could point out the most important points to use it on so not to waste castings per day. After that, or simultaneously if others help, I would begin work on defenses and fortifications. If anyone has knowledge about boats we might be able to fix one for fishing ( a lot of mouths to feed here) or use it in part of the repairs.

@GM are we provided with tools?

Rai, Mhar has unlimited spells to create water and purify existing food & water. :)

EDIT:Also, Jezelyn doesn't have internet access at the moment, but she's telling me she definitely wants to detect magic over the whole ruined town, looking for any dangers, or any treasure.

Rai looks at Braeth, "Braeth, while I agree with some of your items of importance. My priority is to clean out that well. The spell casters can only do so much but can not produce the volume of water that well will produce. Who's good at climbing and wants to help clear out the well? And even if the spell casters can, we do not need something to create a health hazard in our possible village."

Rai has Survival +4

Rai, I suspect if I make us both larger that we can reach whatever is down there. but let us wait for Shadow to return.

with scent he should be able to find anything...he is made to be a scout and eventually skill monkey

Braeth nods at Rai's addition to the plans and waits by while they clean out the well.

When everyone is done, Braeth would lead a party of anyone who wishes to aid in the foraging for food and building supplies.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
