Looking nauseous Skywin emerged from the Sellen Starling, looked at the sinking abomination and cried, "Ye Gods! What was that hideous thing?!" Turning back to you she urges you, "Come on back on the boat, it's time to get out of here!"

You might want to think about your next moves, there's still a long way to go before you reach Cassomir.

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin curses under her breath, "Oh great that's Naerel Twice-Born... Look can you deal with him? The crew and I need to buy supplies and the haggling will take the best part of a hour."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin nodded, "All right, lets see how quick we can make this. As crazy as the Hanspur worshipers are, they do sell very good fish and trust me we need the supplies!"

A few minutes later the Sellen Starling pulled into a rickety pontoon dock at the south end of town.

F Halfling | Picture

Funny you should mention that...

The decrepit dinghy is easily scuttled and the Sellen Starling spends the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon peacefully crossing Lake Kallas. The crew spend their time line fishing and a good number of fish of all sorts including one or two monsters that much weigh 25 pounds or more.

As lunch turns into early afternoon a ramshackle collection of buildings and a small jetty comes into view on the eastern bank, with a larger and slightly more permanent collection of buildings on top of a low rise above. Skywin calls for a meeting as the boat glides towards the shore, "OK so we had a little problem with Hanspur worshipers earlier, best keep quiet about that! Riverton is the focus of Hanspur in the River Kingdoms. I aim to keep this stop short and sweet, two hours tops. You want to avoid their god awful sun set service dedicated to Hanspur. If you're still in town when the sun sets attendance is mandatory. Trust me you don't need three hours of desperate shoreline flailing by mad, muddy fanatics! Any questions?"

Kn:Local DC 20:
The only laws in Riverton are the erratic decrees of the demagogue Naerel Twice-Born (known as the “River Prophet”). Riverton is a fairly safe port, as visitors seeking river guides or Naerel’s advice are frequent, but the citizenry’s zeal for pestering visitors to convert to their god discourages lengthy stays."[/b]

F Halfling | Picture

Captain Freeling takes one look at their leaky boat and cries, "Hanspur worshippers, crazed the lot of them! Look at the state of that dinghy, would require constant bailing if you don't want to swim. I think we can be glad there was only four of them..."

[Ooc]Onto riverton?[/b]

F Halfling | Picture

"Erm..." she looks at Zarine dubiously before answering, "Day after tomorrow we'll enter and cross Lake Kallas. I aim to reach Riverton before nightfall." She gives Zarine another sideways look before saying mostly to Zandomir and Lizzie, "Look whatever's going on here is none of my business, just keep it down please I don't want the crew to get upset..." She looks at you pleadingly.

F Halfling | Picture

Zandomir:
You'd need a large town / metropolis for Heal, or a good sized town for Psychic Surgery. The nearest one is your destination, Cassomir. However all is not lost however! There is some forgotten loot here.

Zarine:
No worries this is fine.

A rather sleepy looking Captain Freeling pokes her head around where you are and asks, "I heard raised voices, is everything OK?"

Don't forget the boat is quite small...

F Halfling | Picture

"Seems like a wise precaution." agreed Skywin.

F Halfling | Picture

Heinrich:
You know that a Chartreux is an affectionate cat that will follow his owners from room to room. They are good with children and are quiet
rarely making a sound.

Later at breakfast Skywin tells you, "We're making good time, the Glass River is swift in this section. The day after tomorrow we'll enter and cross Lake Kallas and take on supplies at Riverton which is on the eastern bank. I didn't want to stop there but the rescued rowers ate us out of house and home. After that we'll turn south and a few days later enter the Sellen proper and dock at Dabril. Dabril is part of Galt so you'll need to mind your Ps and Qs, but the fish market there is really good as is Madame Avril's boulangerie - best croissants for two hundred miles in any direction."

As a reminder there where some Knowledge checks with the various destinations along the way. Currently it's up to you when you next try a dream quest, or we can fast forward to the next event.

F Halfling | Picture

"Surely it wasn't quite that bad Professor Malliver? Oh it was... Well it's done now. Next few days are plain sailing through the Wilewood, should be pretty peaceful. About mid way through the forest, in about 3 days we'll stop for some foraging then onto Lake Kallas and south to the Sellen and distant Casomir!"

OK the boat is peaceful once more, what are your plans?

F Halfling | Picture

"Err..." Skywin seemed to be struggling, "Well like I said the Razmiri attacked us and we fought them off and sunk one of their pirate barges. I mean look you can talk to the men we rescued. And as for being agents of Kyonin, do we look like elves?"

F Halfling | Picture

With starlight twinkling behind her, Skywin nods to Zandomir before glancing towards the rest of you as she asked, "Are you all in agreement?"

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin seemed pensive as you climbed and when you where well and truly out of earshot of the boat she told you, "I don't regret taking them men on but this next few weeks is going to be hard. With everyone so packed in I'll be amazed if there aren't any fights. Also I'm a bit worried about all that gold you brought on. Thing is we don't know the men we rescued, I'm sure they're as honest as the next man but gold can do funny things to you mind and that was a lot. And then there's your hobbies to discuss... Now I'm not one to pry, but it might be for the best if you keep a lid on things until we can off load them."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin looked astounded when Heinrich offered splitting thousands of gold between the ex slaves. Her reaction changed to bemusement when the others started objecting. As voiced stared to get louder she put a finger to her lips and said, "Shh! Keep it down. Probably best if we find somewhere out of earshot to discuss this. Perhaps after tonight when we moor up?"

Sense Motive DC 18:
You get the impression she's worried that the money might get stolen if you're too obvious about having chests literally full of gold and silver coins.

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin gives the man an appraising look and replies, "I see. OK well I can't promise anything but I'll introduce you to Keith and see if there's something you can help out with..."

The man seems terribly grateful as Skywin leads him over to talk to the mate.

A bit later she comes back and tells Lizzie, "Lets see how he does over the next couple of weeks, but Keith's got him stacking rope and he'll try him on some minor repairs - a bit of painting and some tarring - nothing major but things that need doing."

When Zandomir discusses taking so many on board Skywin replies, "Aye it's going to be tight. You and the other paying passengers have the largest room, I'd appreciate if let some of the rowers or my crew share it. Tempers are bound to fray with so many, yet we can hardly leave them to their fate all the way out here. I'm hoping we can drop them off at Riverton but it may be friendlier to take them further than that. Of course this means more mouths to feed so we'll have to step up the foraging trips."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin initially blushes but then a frown forms on her normally cheerful face and with hands on her hips she tells Zandomir how it is, "They'd kill you too if I was to let you land on the southern shore. Perhaps you've visited Iadara? It's different there, but here on the border with Razmiran they shoot first and speak with deal later. In their own way the Kyonin elves are zealots and as bad as their northern neighbors. Only good thing is if we stick to the river they'll leave us alone."

Per the AP this is canon.

F Halfling | Picture

With the fighting done, Skwyin comes out and commands her crew to come out and maneuver The Starling along side. She hops aboard and kicks several of the gaudy masks on the forecastle before heading below decks to see what the score was.

Spotting the slaves she exclaims, "By the gods the stench! Uh how could that animal force people to live like this?! Well we can't leave them here, if the Razmiri get wind of this they'll kill the lot of em, and the elves will do the same because they're not people in their eyes. We're going to have to take em aboard the starling, which will be real cosy until we can find somewhere safe for them. Oh and we're going to have to scuttle this ridiculous barge!"

F Halfling | Picture

"Oh no..." groans Skwyin, "A 'faith barge' that's all well need, especially considering Zarine's actions. Well there's no chance of outrunning them. I'll just have to heave to and show them my receipt and tell them to #$&!off."

Perception DC 15:
You too can see the Tribute Taker. It's a fast sleek boat, you can hear the beat of the drums as the rowers pull towards you. You can also hear the row-master's whip cracking on the backs of oarsman and his promises of retribution if they lazy good for nothing maggots don't row harder.
They will be along side in less than a minute.

F Halfling | Picture

You got 150 gold, and there's ten crew including Skywin.

"Well I figure they got their money, anything else is just a bonus right?" relied Skywin cheekily. Soberly she added, "Still if it ever got back to them that you stole their purses, that could make life difficult."

She signs and brushes that away before adding, "Well next town is Riverton a perhaps nine, maybe ten days away. We'll run out of fresh fruit in four days or so. Fortunately I know of another abandoned orchard this time in the Wilewood which is mid way. We'll send a foraging party and see what we can find."

Kn: Geography DC 22:
Wilewood is the largest forest in the River Kingdom of Sevenarches. It is inhabited by numerous dangerous fey, treants, centaurs and other forest denizens. The fey think of themselves as a sovereign nation within Sevenarches, and are unfriendly to all outsiders. They do not consider themselves strictly aligned with the Oakstewards, but recognize the druids as friends of the Wilewood, working with them despite their chaotic nature. Many animals living in the wood are permanently awakened by fey magic.

Somewhere within the Wilewood is a great clearing hundreds of feet across. Seven Arches stand in the clearing, carved from gray-brown basalt and arranged according to some arcane pattern.

The legendary hydra Ladonica thought that it was enchanted with powerful fey energies when it accidentally stumbled upon a gateway to the First World in the heart of Wilewood.

The land around the Wilewood serves as a base for several tribes of marsh giant raiders. They are brazen and sometimes raid as far as Riverton.

Kn: Geography DC 20:
Riverton is a small ramshackle community of a few hundred souls clinging to the steep slopes of the eastern shore of Lake Kallas. The place is a hotbed of Hanspur worshipers. Kn: Religion DC 18 to know all this.

Are you planning to do anything this evening?

F Halfling | Picture

A little while later while the ship was preparing for lunch, Skywin found you and said, "Thank you ever so much for helping me out there! Seven hundred would have wiped me out with nothing for the crew. I would have been forced to sell the Starling."

Her serious demeanor suddenly changed as she added with a sly wink, "I wonder how long it will take them to notice the false bottom with the lead ingots in that box? Nearly broke my back carrying that thing!"

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin cut him off managing a blend of righteous indignation and chutzpah, "No I insist. Count it please and then I want a signed receipt so there can be no misunderstandings..."

F Halfling | Picture

With a heavy sigh Skywin says "I suppose I'd better get the money then, one moment..."

She heads back onto the boat while the pair of priests wait, at least for now, none the wiser about Zarine's escapades. The pair don't say anything but their body language suggests they're all too happy with a hard day's work.

A little while later Skywin and the mate Keith stagger back with a small but heavy box. She opens it in front of the pair, "Right there you are, I'd like you to count it please."

Inside is a large number of neat stacks wrapped in paper of low denomination coins.

Sense Motive DC 18:
You sense annoyance from the priests, the box is clearly very heavy. Skywin has apparently been saving copper and silver pieces...

1 person marked this as a favorite.
F Halfling | Picture

Trying hard to keep the contempt from her voice, Skywin replied, "I guess..." Two hundred and fifty was still an outrageous sum, but rather less than she'd had to pay last time.

Perception DC20:
In the distance you notice another priest followed by a group of half a dozen enforcers talking to various people on the Quay. They're making slow and steady progress in your direction you and will be with you in less than five minutes at this rate.

Are you going to press your luck or cut your (well Skywin's) losses? If you factor in Zarine's exploits the net sum is not farm from Zandomir's suggested 100g. They can't make a DC 39 check so pretty much auto succeed there.

F Halfling | Picture

Unnoticed by the priests who have focused their attention on Zandomir, Skywin rolls her eyes at Brother Aardman's words. You get the sense she's not far from loosing her rag which would be terrible under the circumstances.

F Halfling | Picture

"Seven hundred..." Skywin's face went deathly pale and her voice trailed off as a thin bead of sweat trickled down the side of her face.

F Halfling | Picture

Next morning you awake to find the boat already underway, it's sails filled with a light easterly breeze. The Stellen Starling faintly leaps along the Glass River and before mid morning you spot smoke of the horizon from the many homes and businesses of Xer. An ugly port with an extensive wharf backed up onto a hill, it could have been from anywhere if it wasn't for all the posters statues and murals of Razimir. They where so many it was as if the living god felt like he had something to prove...

Officers from pair of cutters guarding the bay give the the Starling a suspicious look before waving waving you on, and within a few minutes the Starling is moored and a long line of porters are coming and going with heavy loads. A pair of robed gold masked priests appear on the pontoon and march purposefully towards you. Skywin gives you a look and whispers conspiratorially, "Here comes trouble..."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin replies, "You'd be welcome to try Zandomir, usually they want 200g but sometimes as much as 500g and then that's all most all the profit from the trip gone."

F Halfling | Picture

The next couple of days pass uneventfully, and the red sailed boat is not spotted at all. The crew seemingly convinced the Bloodwind has gone elsewhere relax by fractions.

That morning Skywin tells you, "Tomorrow we'll dock at Xer and take on supplies and the clergy will let us pass in exchange for a large 'donation'. Up to you if you want to have a look around. Be advised I aim to be there for one hour tops. Also Xer is tightly controlled by the priests of Razmir, who collect tithes from every business. Since anyone who lives in Xer must be a worshiper of Razmir, they collect from everyone. We can expect missionaries, they won't be subtle about it."

Kn:Local DC 15:
Rumour suggests that because Xer was the first city Razmir conquered when he came to the area, some of its inhabitants remember certain secrets that the faithful would deem blasphemy, including the fact that Xer might be home to a number of bastard offspring of the Living God.

Kn: Local DC 18:
Unfortunately for those who visit the city the priest of Razmir aren't fussy about who they demand tithes from happily 'indoctrinating' any foreign sailor or merchant with the tenants of Razmir's religion until they agree to the 'willing donation' asked of them. Even worse this sort of behavior is not just limited to those who walk the streets of Xer, 'faith barges' piloted by Razmir's masked priests sail the surrounding waters boarding the ships of those who are not making port in Xer to spread the word of their faith (generally consisting of bullying non-believers) and collected tithes (by demanding tribute to pass).

F Halfling | Picture

Looking determined Skywin replies, "I'll do what I can but this bucket was never intended to be fast on the open waters, still they'll be hard pressed to follow us down the river. They have a deeper keel so we can go places they can't, and we're more nimble around bends."

F Halfling | Picture

Overhearing the conversation, Skywin suggests, "If you want to set an ambush, wait until we're a few days down the River Glass. There's a couple of good tight meanders I'm thinking of that can hide you from view and which will force them to come within a few feet of the tree lined banks. Or there's only so many places it's safe to anchor at night, surely they've got to stop somewhere. Most of the riverbank is treacherous but there are some areas with good paths on the northern bank for horse drawn barges. It would be feasible for you to disembark and find where they've moored."

So you have a few options to set an ambush. The AP assumes you do the various dream quests btw - it's the only way you'll get your memories back and to find out what Lowls is up to.

F Halfling | Picture

"Well that's unnerving..." remarked Skywin before shrugging, "I guess there' nothing to be done about it. Tomorrow will tell if they follow us into the River Glass." The last was said brightly as if she believed they might not, her eyes however told the lie of this. Everyone expected red sails on the horizon or behind the last bend to dog their passage south.

F Halfling | Picture

The research took all told took the entirety of the Lake Encarthan portion of the journey to perform. On several occasions a foraging party was sent ashore to hunt for ducks, and pick fruit from abandoned orchards where they could. For nearly a week the Red sails of the pursuing longboat had been absent, and the spirits of the crew had lifted.

Excitedly Skywin told you that evening, "We'll enter the Glass River tomorrow! Progress! We'll be making our way past the Elven Kingdom, too bad they don't like outsiders. I'd much rather deal with them than the Zealots, oh well. Anyway after a week or so we'll pass through the Wilewood - that's a proper backwater and no mistake. Hardly anyone there but a few strange inbred mountain men. Once we're through that we'll be onto Kallas lake and the mighty Sellen!"

At that moment the mate shouted, "Capn! It's back." The happy mood was smashed in an instant for there brooding on the horizon was a blood red sail...

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin replies at once to Filbert, "Yeah that's towards the Isle of Dread which is roughly in the center of the lake. From what I heard it used to be bigger but a long time ago something terrible happened and a whole town sank beneath the waves. Hope you don't want to go near there since that's nearly a weak in the wrong direction from here..."

F Halfling | Picture

Overhearing Zandomir's words, Skywin tells you, "The sight of that red sail is upsetting the crew. Some of them have been spouting superstitious nonsense, wild tales like it's the boat of the dead or something. I don't believe that for a second but you do sometimes get pirates usually closer to the river kingdoms mind. Their boat is more suited for open water than ours so they don't need to come ashore, but they probably do. Strange things tend to happen to boats that spend the night in the open lake. Bits of it are very very deep and there's that bell. The bell that tolls in the deepest part of the lake. Proper freaky."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin made a sour face, "Yes Bellis is well over two months away. We might risk re-provisioning in Xer in a couple of weeks, we'll have to see how the foraging goes in the mean time. Some of the other places on the way like Riverton are too much trouble..."

Settlements and places of note along the way to Cassomir. All separate checks.

Xer Kn:Geography DC 15:
Xer (pronounced ZER) is an important port on the banks of Lake Encarthan and the Glass River. It serves as one of the two main ports for all Razmiran, and much of the trade goods that flow from across the lake are funnelled through Xer. The importance of Xer means it is tightly controlled by the priests of Razmir, who collect tithes from every business in Xer—since anyone who lives in Xer must be a worshiper of Razmir, they collect from everyone.

Unfortunately for those who visit the city, the priests aren't fussy about who they demand tithes from, and happily "indoctrinate" any foreign sailor or merchant with the tenets of Razmir's religion until they agree to the "willing donation" asked of them. Even worse, this sort of behaviour is not just limited to those who walk the streets of Xer. Faith barges piloted by Razmir's masked priests sail the surrounding waters, boarding the ships of those who are not making port in Xer to spread the word of their faith (generally by bullying non-believers) and collect tithes (by demanding tribute to pass).

Rumour suggests that because Xer was the first city Razmir conquered when he came to the area, some of its inhabitants remember certain secrets that the faithful would deem blasphemy, including the fact that Xer might be home to a number of bastard offspring of the Living God.

Riverton Kn:Geography DC 18:
Of the two deities most often associated with the Sellen River, Gyronna and Hanspur, the latter might be considered kindlier, but a dark truth counters that naive viewpoint. The Water Rat’s followers are known for their knowledge of the river and its ways, but only an outsider would travel alone with a devotee of Hanspur, as those who do often end up floating downriver, their corpses waterlogged and bloated in a macabre reenactment of the god’s mortal death. The village of Riverton was founded by one such lone follower, Brother Naerel Twice-Born, also known as the River Preacher, who leads the community in daily rites on the shores of Kallas Lake. Those who do not wish to take part in Hanspur’s worship, hear the words of his followers, or pay for knowledgeable guidance through the River Kingdoms are advised not to linger in Riverton beyond the briefest stop to resupply, as these worshipers of the Water Rat are as unpredictable as any.

Dabril Kn:Geography DC 22:
Dabril is a tiny village perched on the eastern bank of the Sellen River in the tumultuous nation of Galt, just south of Kallas Lake.

Shaping Bluffs Kn:Geography DC 25:
A 2-mile stretch of steep red stone bluffs occupies a portion of the Five Kings Mountains’ small but notable eastern border along the Sellen River. Taking their name from the strange phenomenon that reshapes the face of the bluffs at erratic intervals, the Shaping Bluffs often provide refuge to smugglers, pirates, and other people who wish to remain unfound.

Criminals and other suspicious folk often move small ships into water-level caves along the bluffs and hide within sealed-off grottoes when the face of the bluffs closes them in. Such hideouts pose risks, however, because one can never know when or if the chamber will ever open again, or whether it will close soon enough to provide an effective refuge. Luckily for all of those who explore or hide in these caves, the bluffs never seem to fully encase creatures in solid rock, always leaving pockets of air around foreign objects and inhabitants when they shift.

Woodsedge Kn:Geography DC 20:
A hotbed of philosophy and dissident thought, this city was home to Darl Jubannich, one of the architects of Galt’s Red Revolution. Nobility, outlaws, and those in disgrace all rub shoulders here, fomenting schemes to wrest power from those who hold it—no matter who that might be. Like most Galtans, the citizens of Woodsedge are suspicious of outsiders, making it a rather unwelcoming port of call between Kallas Lake and the Inner Sea. The docks are heavily guarded by government agents, including the Gray Gardeners, and the punishment for smuggling—especially smuggling people wanted by the state, and in particular, nobles in hiding or on the run—is steep. Despite its off-putting demeanor, the city nevertheless provides many vessels with one last chance to resupply before they undertake the next leg of their journeys up or down the Sellen. In recent years, the Pathfinder Society has traveled to and from the city with increased regularity, as Woodsedge Lodge was reopened after being abandoned during the riots that tore the country apart.

Belis Kn:Geography DC 18:
Founded just over half a century ago, the small town of Bellis cements Andoran’s hold on its eastern borders against Taldor, with the Sellen River serving as a neutral zone between these two nations that don’t always see eye to eye. Known for its tradition of apiculture and the beeswax, honey, and mead that it exports, Bellis is a favored stop on the trip downriver from Woodsedge.

The town also supports a thriving logging industry, operated by the unscrupulous Lumber Consortium. The logging, which many along the Sellen see as an affront to the region’s natural resources, has increased tensions with the druids who live in the Verduran Forest on both sides of the river, leading some to fear that an outright conflict could arise and jeopardize travel.

Isle of Arenway Kn:Geography DC 20:
Isle of Arenway: Situated at the confluence of the Sellen River and the westwardflowing Verduran Fork, the Isle of Arenway provides a sanctuary for practitioners of the Green Faith. Set aside by the Taldan government for the druids’ exclusive use in the Treaty of the Wildwood in 3841 ar, the isle houses a lone Taldan River Guard outpost in a walled compound that the guards do not leave. Ships traveling through the area often stop to have friendly druids bless their vessels before journeying on. Once a year, a Taldan envoy visits Arenway to reaffirm the peace, exchanging seeds for a piece of wood that acts as a good luck charm for any superstitious ship captain who can obtain such a token (often at a very high monetary or political price).

Cassomir Kn:Geography DC 15:
Cassomir is located at the mouth of the Sellen River, and is the second largest settlement in the empire of Taldor. It acts as a major trade city, and through its ports enter goods from the Inner Sea, as well as from nations to the north that utilize the Sellen as a trade route. Cassomir is also home to the greatest of Taldor's imperial shipyards, even though the majority of the fleet itself is stationed in Oppara.

Here a map for the journey. As you can see there's still a very long way to go.

F Halfling | Picture

Looks like I got my geography slightly wrong, Illmarsh isn't where I thought it was. The boat you're on is currently sailing down the eastern border of Lake Encarthan - which is massive.

The day's sailing has been smooth with only a light southerly breeze rippling the surface of Lake Encarthan. Towards the end of lunch Captain Skywin picks up an apple and tells you, "Best enjoy these while you can, we're running out. I'm going to send another foraging party out in a few days." She glances suspiciously to the forested shore on left, which the boat has been hugging for the past tenday as you travel south. She shakes her head slightly before carrying on, "But not before we pass Thronestep, we'll be giving that and just about everywhere else in Razmiran a wide berth."

F Halfling | Picture

Heinrich's diplomacy
"Err you want to do what?!" Skywin looked confused, Heinrich's words scared her. Hands on her hips the halfling looked up at him, "Look I guess it's your business what you do at night, and I'll make sure nobody noses about, but I don't want whatever it is your doing to endanger the boat or upset my crew ok?"

F Halfling | Picture

When several people talk about accompanying the foraging party, Skywin seems well pleased. "I'll introduce you to my Delrah, we go way back. She's wood-crafty and knows how to handle herself in the wilds and has been leading foraging parties for years. I'm sure she'll appreciate the extra muscle."

F Halfling | Picture

"That would be amusing to watch!" grinned Skywin, "Anyway this evening we'll moor up by a bend in the river. To the east of the bend is a low rise popping up out of the marsh where once there used to be a village. Pembwick I think it was called, anyway all that's left now are overgrown orchards and a few low stone walls. I'm planning to send a scavenging party to pick apples, pears and perhaps some gooseberries."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin scratches her ear for a moment before answering tentatively, "Well we have a couple of barrels of lamp oil. I'm not sure how effective that would be, the Sellen is quite fast moving in places... Mind you its slow and meandering in other sections. Worth a try I guess."

F Halfling | Picture

Skywin gives Filbert a wry grin, "Pirates sometimes? Sure! Sea monsters not so much... Cesadia warned me having you as passengers would be interesting times, as far as I see it, she ain't wrong!"

F Halfling | Picture

"Wow! That was amazing!" enthused Skywin, "I've never seen anyone fight like that. Glad to have you on our side..."

She scans the horizon behind, "I can't see that other ship anymore, but look the locals are still putting up chains despite us having passed them. I don't think they like that other ship either."

F Halfling | Picture

"Never heard of Illmarsh having a ship like that before..." muttered Skywin, "It must have come in from Lake Encarthan too."

As she speaks the six shapes draw ever closer! As they emerge out of the fog, you catch a glimpse of brightly colored, long-necked amphibians with six legs, a fanged snout, and numerous finlets running down their spines! They seems to be powerful swimmers for they are gaining on you rapidly.

Kn:Arcarna DC 14:
You recognize these, they're Vooniths! Strange creatures from the Dimension of Dreams capable of unleashing a bloodcurdling howl that can dazed even hardy warriors, leaving them shaken! Their strange morphology affords them unusually long reach with their bite.

The things in the water look like this this.

"Quick below!" Skywin orders to the crew just before they catch up, trusting that dangerous looking types like yourself will be able to defend the boat!

MILE 30, DAY 3
During the night, the fog settled in a thick layer like a blanket over the lake and the surrounding environs making it impossible to see more than a few feet.

"Cursed fog! This is going to slow us right down. Normally I'd pass Illmarsh as quickly as possible but I can't risk crashing into something." lamented captain Freeling once you awoke to a breakfast of porridge and stewed fruit.

Skywin scratches her ear as she thinks, "Hmm. Honestly couldn't say, been like that as long as I remember. My Da reckoned they were borne apart, hating outsiders."

Replying to Zandomir she promises, "Yes we'll need everyone to be up and ready just in case."

Over dinner one of you asks Skywin what the itinerary is for the next few days and she tells you, "Tomorrow we'll enter the Mighty River Sellen. A day or so later we'll pass the village of Illmarsh. A forsaken backwater best avoided, no ship receives a friendly welcome there! My plan is to sail past during the predawn while they're all still in bed. I'm not really expecting any problems but you can never be too careful."

Skywin replies, "You'll be in the aft cabin. I'm afraid you'll be sharing with Wreben and Gossa, they're scholars or something. Wreben is the whip-thin one with long, stringy, dark hair. Gossa is stout and shortsighted one with the intricately braided blond hair."

Oh he's frightened of you alright, but he's also uncommonly stubborn. Even if you were his best mate, he wouldn't help because it would cost him money to get the labourers to shift the wood.

Filbert's statement raises an eyebrow, "You can move six to seven thousand pounds with your mind. Now that I gotta see!"

Skywin scratches her head before asking, "Well now you ask... Can he do that trick with the hardwood planks? It was a neat trick that plank o' pine but hardwood is two or three times heavier."

Apparently Skywin found this hilarious and was desperately trying to hold a straight face, "You must be the ones Cesadia told me about! Did you see that Toad's face?!" Sobering somewhat she adds, "Oh goodness, but as funny as that was it didn't really help. We can't depart with the boat listing like that and there's no way he'll help now."

You look and the boat is listing terribly and even landlubbers know that isn't a good thing!
