An average-looking lad of above-average ability, Tarquin's passion for the tales of Taldan heroes inspired him while he worked diligently in the shipyards of Cassomir. Tarquin would eagerly gobble up stories of the knights and wizards from Taldor's glorious past, the legends fueling his motivation to practice his swordmanship with stray timbers and hedge wizardry from discarded scrolls. Tarquin's pettier coworkers would torment the impressionable youth, mocking his interest in "old spinners' tales" and occasionally testing his self-taught skills in solo brawls. Despite these routine beatings and the absence of any chance for social advancement, however, Tarquin was content to live within his own fantasies.
Tarquin's fate changed, however, when he was discovered by Lady Gloriana Morilla, leader of the Pathfinder Society's Sovereign Court faction. A longtime appreciator of Taldor's former glory, Lady Gloriana was touched by the humble youth's enthusiasm for privately reenacting scenes from the Empire's golden age, and she recognized Tarquin's potential as both a swordsman and a spellcaster. Lady Gloriana personally recruited Tarquin to the Sovereign Court, granting him the honorary title of "Sir" to permanently seal his devotion to the Society. Tarquin replaced his stray timbers with a proper Taldan falcata, and scribed a spellbook of his own that finally made sense of the fragments he had experimented with in the shipyards.
