Hey everyone, I'm really sorry to have dropped off the face of the Earth without any warning! My partner was suddenly put in the ER for the last week, (they're doing much better now) but I was so frazzled between that and finals that I wasn't remembering to eat or sleep, let alone check the forums. So my two cents on fireball:
Making it into a ranged attack kind of defeats the purpose of giving it a reflex save for half. Spells tend to have one or the other, putting both on it changes the spell substantially. However if it is now definitely a ranged attack roll, I can abuse the hell out of that because it means that it now qualifies even easier for some of the arcane trickster shenanigans that I was considering.
Also: Ranged attacks can crit, that's part of their balance. Does fireball now crit?
Also also: it is somewhat disheartening that even after a feat and a trait that my save on fireball is still less than the NPC. Although it does make sense as an actual being of fire. Kind of a: Why am I here moment though.

Not entirely sure where I was, and perception is not my forte, so I'll just assume I go on round 1. My keen gnomish senses ought to get me through the darkness, and I put a yellow circle where I plan on hucking my fireball

I think I was hanging out with Quince? Going to operate under that assumption.

"Oh that's gross. That's really really gross. I think I'm going to throw up."

Sindri gags in a corner, and comes back a couple of minutes later.

"Yeah, mind-twisters are the worst. And wow! This cloak is way higher end than the one that I had commissioned for myself! There is some sentimental value there, but practicality must come first. The irony of the city gnome in his fancy silk ceremonial armor saying such a thing is completely lost on him.

"So... is it fireball time?"

Sindri continues to squint his eyes at the smoke. It seemed somewhat odd to him, but he couldn't quite his finger on it. And with so many people preparing themselves to fight the boar surely they didn't need his help, right? "I've never seen an elf with blue hair before!" Sindri blurts out, before covering his mouth with his hands. "I'm sorry, was that insensitive? I can be insensitive some times. At least that's what my friends used to say. But that's what this headband is for, it's supposed to help with that, but sometimes I talk too fast and it can't catch up and now I'm flustered and rambling, I should probably stop now!" The gnome sticks out his hand. "Sindri's my name. Sorry about that."

Sindri had been sitting quietly and watching the goings on. It was uncharacteristic of him to not be rubbing elbows with whoever would listen to him, but he was trying to make a good first impression. When the dragonkin smashed his way into the room, his eyes began to glow slightly, and as he moved his hands about sparks began to fly. At the explanation of the situation however, he relaxes back into his chair and the sparks fade.

At the mention of house Rogarvia, his eyes are glued to Ike. His finger that bore a ring with the Rogarvian crest on it began to tap slightly.

"In addition to all that was mentioned, would it stop any of us from going to Varnhold even if we weren't given a mandate by Greenwatch? From the sound of it, we all have our own reasons for looking into The Vanishing. Friends, family, lovers? You couldn't keep me away from Varnhold if you tried!" He pauses for a second.

"Still, I feel confident knowing that there are such qualified people who are so similarly motivated! If we travel together, not even the strangeness of the Stolen Lands will be able to thwart us!"

I'm happy to do some revamping too, my first though was to run an arcane trickster building towards Kirin style, but then it started getting to be too much paperwork for not enough cool reward, and then I swapped over to the ever-cool(hot) phoenix sorcerer instead. I'm enjoying being rather happy-go-lucky for once instead of being all grim and serious, but I can revamp to whatever we need!

Back at the bar...
"We'll find her. Even if we have to search every damn inch of these cursed lands we'll find them all." The gnome looks weary, just for a second, and then perks up. "Positive attitude though! It'll be good to be doing something tangible again! I look forward to seeing you at the castle!" The gnome bounces happily out of the bar, humming tunelessly to himself.

About average height for a gnome, Sindri is still quite small, even in comparison to Layla. His hair is a vibrant orange, and he smells not unpleasantly of woodsmoke. He wears rather proudly livery of house Rogarvia, and has a mithril buckler on his back. Aside from that however, he seems to have no weapons or armor. He walks with a constant bounce in his step, and a slightly lopsided smile. He waves to the people he recognizes from the tavern, and takes a seat on the ground.

"No, you see! My friend got vanished years ago, during the Rostland Vanishing! I'm trying to find out what's causing these vanishings so I can bring everyone back, or at least stop it from happening again! I have to believe these people can be saved. Of course I sympathize with the families, I've felt the same pain for a decade." The gnome rises, and although initially he sounded like he was trying to explain a misunderstanding, his ire seems to have been raised. "So don't you assume to know the reasons behind my motivations before you speak to me like that again, got it?" For a minute, you can see echos of the first world in the gnome's eyes, and echoes of the pain of having outlived many humans that he knew many times over. Then he blinks, and the look fades away.
"I'm sorry. Did you lose someone important to you too?"

"Fascinating!" Sindri seems completely oblivious to the fact that Lykan is quite obviously deranged, and is instead taking careful notes of everything said. "And you said that they just vanished, with no sign of a struggle? I've seen an unexplained vanishing before, but never on this scale! This could be the solution that I need to crack this thing right open! Please, you must take me with you so that I can study this phenomenon more closely, and learn how to undo it!" The gnome springs up from his stool, and falls to his knees, overcome by extreme emotion.

Sindri jumps at hearing a voice in his head. He tries thinking something extra hard. You're telepathic? That's an amazing ability!

Not being particularly observant, he doesn't notice the bartender talking about them, instead looking at Sulvanli wide eyed, as well as admiringly.

"See, I study magical phenomena, with a special interest in disappearing people! So this sounds like it could be right up my alley! Mostly I study different languages though! Did you know that orcish has 36 different words for axe?"

"Do you know anything about that loud elf over at the bar? He seems kind of... wild, but I'll probably need others if I want to go to Varnhold! The Stolen Lands can be pretty dangerous."

If Sindri heard that an entire township went missing, he'd be very interested in going to investigate, due to his interest in people disappearing! (Also I noticed just now that the good elemental lords weren't freed from imprisonment until the year 4717, so I guess he's just an early adopter) Do you want RP in here? I'mma do it :)

Sindri approaches the assimar , hundreds of potential greetings already racing through his mind. He rubs his head, a habit that occurs when his headband is telling him what not to say at an alarming rate. Eventually, he hops up on a stool, dragging it over to be near this assimar.
"Hi! I'm Sindri! Sindri Cindermage, at your service! I had cards printed up, but I forgot them in Rostland, so you'll have to forgive me introducing myself so dramatically. Sindri Cindermage, self appointed savior of Ateria, and Linguaphile extraordinaire." The gnome pauses a second to catch his breath.
"Oh right! I'm investigating the situation in Varnhold. Can you tell me anything about it?"

I noticed that we could be a little light on healing, so I pulled out my pocket pick for favorite healing build, the phoenix blooded sorcerer! Background:

Fire is Sindri's second favorite thing in the world, the first being the acquisition of new languages. Gnomes are not particularly common in the Rostland area, and as such, Sindri became a bit of a local celebrity. Always feeling a closeness to fire, instead of his gnomish ancestry for illusion, and having no interest in tinkering, his parents had no real idea what to do with him. Still, they cared for this strange gnome as best they could, and as his power over flame grew, so did his local fame.

An apology from fire for burning so hot. That was the way that Sindri described his flames. They burned wounds away, almost as if they were fueled by the pain that they destroyed. In researching the origin of his power, Sindri came across Atreia, the Lambent King, benevolent elemental lord of fire. His tenants of healing through burning away corruption spoke to Sindri, and it was then that he believed himself to be the chosen of Ateria. He took on the name Cindermage, and decided then to make it his lifes work to live up to the edicts of the Lambent King, to provide warmth to those who do not possess it, and to provide flame to those who deserve it.

He offered his services to the local lords, House Rogarvia, as a combination healer and translator. His knowledge of other languages was greatly augmented by his ability to naturally pick up on accents and his general likability. As such, he was offered a small retainer, and lodgings to call his own. Quickly, he became friends with one of the Rogvarian children, Chesti, who shared the gnome's penchant for burning things. Sindri attempted to temper the child's lust for arson, and turn it to more productive uses, to mild success. Although Cindri was no wizard, he was quite familiar with the theory surrounding it, and taught Chesti some skills to manipulate flame. Still, as the years went by, and Chesti grew to a young man of 20 years, Sindri and Chesti remained close friends, often discussing their future plans together, where Chesti would be head of house Rogarvia and Sindri would be a trusted advisor. Chesti even went as far as to take a red rock from the treasury, and gift it to Sindri. It radiated magic, but neither Sindri's studies, nor Chesti's records could determine what it was meant to do. Nevertheless, the red gem spoke to them, calling to both of the flame-touched youths.

When the vanishing happened, no one was more upset about it than Sindri. His best friend had been seeming stolen by forces beyond his control. Sindri refused to entertain the notion that Chesti would have left without telling him, and so the only reasonable alternative left was that he must have been kidnapped. Sindri increased his already borderline feverish daily devotions to Atreia, but to no avail, his god had no answers for him. Rostland moved on from the vanishing, but Sindri never did. While Sindri has no particular loyalty to house Surtova, he appreciates what they have done to maintain peace in Brevoy. However, he can never accept the new king as being his own.

Perhaps the stolen lands would hold information on what happened to his old friend. 10 long years have passed since that day, and Sindri grows all the more determined to not let his determination burn out. Already he has worn out what welcome he might have had back in Rostland. He will burn a path through the stolen lands if it means finding the answers that he seeks. Armed with flame, and total certainty in his mission and his deity, Sindri is a powerful mage, made all the more dangerous by his deeply rooted devotions. Still, he knows in his heart of hearts that there are some lines he is unwilling to ever cross.

Sindri's mithril buckler: His mother was an enchanter of some skill, and his father made impressive shields. Sindri asked his parents to make for him a shield that could withstand the savagery of the stolen lands, although he did not have much coin at the time. He hopes that the love of his mother and father will be enough to see him through this adventure.

Sindri's charisma band: To talk to others was one of Sindri's great joys in life. However, in his enthusiasm for meeting new people, he would often overshare, and say something that would turn his prospective friends away. As such, he comissioned for himself a headband that would augment and supliment his ablity to speak to others, warning him before he made a social faux pas. This turned out to be invaluable, for although Sindri speaks over 15 languages, he has not studied cultural mannerisims quite as rigourously...

Sindri's silk armor: The story behind Sindri's silken armor is very simple: he was granted a set of Rogvarian livery, and was so proud of it that he had it enchanted to protect against rips and dirt.

Sindri's cloak of resistance: Sindri and Chesti used to go out on adventures together. Once, while venturing into the stolen lands slightly further than may have been advised, both boys fell prey to a plant, that mesmerized the both of them with swirling hypnotic patterss. Sindri came to his senses after a day had passed, and realized that both he and his friend were covered with vines. Enraged, he blasted the plant with flames, and dragged his delerious friend back to safety. Afterwards, they decided that bolstering their mental defenses might be a good idea...

Sindri's ring of deflection: Sindri was very briefly married once, to a lesser Rogarvian noble-woman. She had never met Sindri before the ceremony, instead hearing of him exclusively through Chesti's recountings. What Chesti had forgotten to mention however, was that Sindri was a gnome, which caused the wedding to be called off. Still, Chesti's wedding present to Sindri had been a ring engraved with the Rogarvian crest, which Sindri held onto, and had enchanted once the vanishing had occured, to protect the ring from tarnishing.
