Sinclair was born and raised in Kintargo, with his older sister, Sonia. His father was a successful trader and merchant while he mother’s love for cooking allowed her to run a bakery from their home. They were by no means poor, and did well for themselves in the city. They frequented the temple of Shelyn and tried to avoid the affairs of the nobles and politics. Really, they just wanted to live a good life and stay out of trouble.
Sinclair and Sonia were nearly inseparable as children, Sinclair always looked up to his sister and she was always trying to keep him out of trouble. She was gifted with the voice of an angel and a knack for dancing. Their father had even saved up enough money to send her to a school for gifted performers. Almost every day, she would force Sinclair to help her practice her craft, which he did begrudgingly. Although he was not a terrible performer himself, he would have much rather been playing with swords with his best friend Xavril. Sonia was soon gaining a reputation for her talent, and was invited to sing weekly at the temple. Of course Sinclair found this boring, and wanted nothing to do with it. One day, while Sonia was performing at a ceremony, some drunken worshipers of Asmodeus who were visiting the city from Egorian, stumbled in and started antagonizing the clerics of Shelyn. A large fight broke out, and in the midst of it, a stray bolt from a crossbow struck Sonia down. Friends were able to get her back to her home, but it was too late and she died the following day.
Her death hit the family hard. Their father quickly turned to drinking, and his shop ended up being closed more often than not, while their mother was a shell of her formerly vibrant self. Sinclair wanted revenge on those that did this, and he and Xavril even tried to come up with a plan to find those responsible. Instead, he watched as his parents fell apart. During the days Sinclair would try to run his father’s shop, but was not much of a merchant himself. At night he would think about how much he missed his Sonia. While going through her room one day, he came across an old book of songs that she used to force him to sing and dance to with her. Soon he started singing and dancing on his own, as a way to be close to his dead sister. He quickly forgot about revenge, and allowed performing to be an outlet for him.
His father was a full blown alcoholic soon and the shop had to close. Sinclair’s mother was still baking but it wasn’t enough to support them anymore. Sinclair soon started performing on the streets for extra money and found that he was quite good at it. Sometimes he would even work with Xavril who would pickpocket any wealthy nobles that stopped to watch. One day, an owner of a small theatre even offered Sinclair a role in a play he had written, after seeing him performing on the streets. Sinclair soon made a name for himself and was earning himself a reputation. Even more importantly though, performing made him happy. It made him think of the times when he and Sonia were kids and she forced him to sing and dance around her room. Then he finally got a big break, he won a role at the Kintargo Opera House in Huntress of Heroes.
Then the political turmoil started and martial law was put in effect. He came home one day and his father had gone out drinking, and hadn’t returned. His mother was a wreck. And now he could no longer perform, with the Opera House closed. Without his outlet anymore, he started to think about his sister’s death and his vow for revenge. He needed to find a way to perform again. Sinclair decided to go to a protest he had heard about with Xavril, hoping to hear news of the Opera House reopening or maybe even finding his father there……
