Jimmy Smith wears gray janitorial coveralls, a costume befitting the expedition factotum. You sometimes wonder how he can see through the long brownish greyshot hair that hangs in greasy strands that often obscrue his face. He speaks with the flat clipped accent of a Minnesota native.
Jimmy's secret:
Unbeknownst to other members of the expedition, Jimmy is James Conrad Smith who rocked the scientific community fifteen years ago with his doctoral thesis and DNA evidence which announced the discovery of paramecium with genes similar to those enabling photosynthesis. It dissolved into scandal when it was revealed that his discovery was actually a very clever application of CRISPR.
