About Ser Cadwgan

Description: A lean man in his late-30’s with dark brown hair and eyes. His typical expression is a wolfish grin. Dressed as a hedge knight, he is lightly armored, wearing a blackened chain shirt over boiled leather. A longsword and dagger hang from his belt, while a stout bow of laminated hard maple and ram’s horn is slung around his chest. An antique wayfinder, coated with a thin green patina and flecks of dried blood, is suspended about his neck by a chain of fine steel links. He bears a shield with the chipped and battered coat of arms of a striking black serpent on a red field; the chief displays a faded Taldan lion on green and blue.

Background: Claiming to have been knighted for valor on the battlefield by a late lord–a claim which cannot be verified–'Ser' Cadwgan is a mercenary from Taldor. His cocky smirk, attitude, and dark sense of humor were troublesome to the refined folk of his homeland. Truthfully, he is little more than a common brigand from the Tandak Plains. Always willing to sell his sword but not his life, he now finds employ with whatever group seeks to pay him the most for his services. While this false knight does not appear as physically imposing as some; make no mistake, he is cat-quick and just as deadly. Preferring to remain light on his feet, Cadwgan closes quickly but smartly, tiring his opponent to create an opening for that fatal blow.

Cadwgan's Wayfinder: Soon after adventuring as a pathfinder, Cadwgan determined that he needed a wayfinder if he would blend in with the society. He visited the markets of Absalom including the shadier corners and stumbled across a purveyor of magic items. There he found a very old one, the outside covered with a thin green patina, the inside inscribed with the family motto “Family, Duty, Honor.” The merchant had a small collection of wayfinders and he could have had one newer and in better condition. But the notion of this presumably pawned family heirloom amused Cadwgan so much that he paid full price, well almost full price. The wayfinder is his own private joke, mocking the pride and arrogance of noble birth and established order.

Interests and Holdings: Cadwgan recently used his growing influence with the Sczarni syndicate to set up a merchant caravan to smuggle illegal goods back and forth between Diobel and Absalom. The operation predominantly seeks to avoid tariffs while moving goods into the city. Cadwgan uses his connections, bribery, and deceit to keep the business operating. Vanity: Caravan (Bluff). As a secondary source of income it transports drugs in and stolen goods out. The illicit portion of his business does increase the risk, and occasionally, the authorities seize a shipment. Vanity: Underground Business. The trade has expanded Cad's networks considerably as he collects rumors and secrets from across the Isle of Kortos. Vanity: Caravan Traveler.
