Background: On stage, Sem is like an aggressive machine, using all her arms to give each song the unique beats and energy that make the Neon & Noqual sound. She loves to riff off whatever the rest of the band is doing, and she clearly is having fun whenever she does. Off stage, Sem is unlike other kasathas—rather than adhere to traditions, Sem likes to carve her own path. She often presents as a bit adversarial to others, but usually with a playful and teasing manner rather than with direct hostility. Even though she antagonizes the other members, especially “Zhaney,” she remains loyal to her new family and is willing to go to great lengths for them.
