The backgrounds in the player's guide have reputation modifiers.

If a player chooses any other background (CRB, other books), does that mean their modifier is zero?

Hiya.

Just got the ROE PDF and my brain is making this more complicated than it needs to be probably because the single, dual, and multi gate from the playtest confused me too.

What's the difference between a Lv 5 Dual Gate Kinetic and a Lv 5 Single Gate Kinetic that Forks the Path? Is it just trading a feat in a second element for a junction?

Aside from "Prerequisites: exactly one kinetic element" for feats, is the term "Gate" just flavor after character creation?

TIA

I kind of want "let's find some paths" to be the "Hail Hydra" of ORC. :-D

Hiya.

So I want to make a Gunlance from Monster Hunter.

I'm not asking for a homebrew 1-for-1 weapon, or use a 3rd party product, but I want to use what's available from Paizo.

Right now, I'm looking at Inventor class with a spear and shield.
I think the feats will approximate some of the abilities, like launching and wyrm staking, maybe shelling.
I'd like a one-handed lance, but I don't think that exists (sans Jousting), or maybe a two-handed weapon with Parry?

Is there something I'm missing, like maybe a dedication, or is there a weapon in a book I don't know about?

Hi,

Pathfinder 2e has free player downloads for their APs. I was wondering if SF did as well?

Hi,

Is there a class/archetype/powered armor/mech combination that could approximate a Rifts' Glitter Boy? Y'know, with the serial numbers filed off?

Not looking for a homebrew; just something in-system.

Hi,

This is probably super obvious, but Mitigate says, Additionally, as a swift action, you can remove any DR or energy resistance you have, or the AC benefit of any ability or spell that increases your AC."

Is this just to make it easier for them to take damage so they can covert to EP?

Sorry if this is obvious and I can't see the forest from the trees. I also haven't played in two years, so maybe I'm forgetting something.

Under "Spells" where it describes spells known, it says, "Unlike your spells per day, the numbers of spells you know isn’t affected by your Dexterity modifier."

But the previous paragraph, and the bonus spells per day table, both say they are based on your Intelligence modifier.

So is Dex Mod an error, or is there something I missed?

Hiya.

Obviously, the GM allowing me to train an animal would be the quickest, but I mean using the rules, what the fastest, legit way?

I'm assuming maybe a dedication, or something, but a quick scan didn't net me anything.

I'm not looking for optimization either; I just want a owl I can name Hoo Dunnit.

I'm preparing to run my first PF2e game and I'm reading/watching as much as I can to prepare for it. Most of my friends are 3.5 versed, but we've been playing 5e for a long time, so I'm mainly looking to avoid traps that my players might fall into thinking this is a 1-1 swap.

Watching this video above brought up some questions, so I wanted to know how rigid are these rules? The examples they gave seem very exploitative and less "fun" though obviously YMMV.

1) One example they brought up was a 2H person using a hand to initiate a grapple, then gripping their sword with both hands again to Strike, then continuing to maintain their grapple. Is that allowed? I get the end result of the grapple is to prevent movement, but I assume once they "let go" of the target, the grapple would need to be reapplied.

2) Another example they proposed was grappling a target, then tripping them (basically pushing someone to the ground and sitting on them). Is that allowed too?

Hiya.

I've read some of the threads concerning Power Attack, but I'm still confused about when to apply the MAP. With the Magus out, I'm even more confused.

So the part of PA I have problems with is this statement:
Make a melee Strike. This counts as two attacks when calculating your multiple
attack penalty.

The way I first read this, I assumed your first Strike would be -5 (0 + -5), which would mimic the way Power Attack worked in previous editions; take a penalty to do more damage. It seems 99.9% of people all say the MAP doesn't apply until after the Strike.

I'm further confused by this because the Magus' Spellstrike says this:
This counts
as two attacks for your multiple attack penalty, **but you don’t apply the penalty until after you’ve completed the Spellstrike.**

So does Spelltrike operate differently than Power Attack, or do they operate the same and SS is just clarifying when the MAP applies?
