Need help with a Dracolisk (half dragon) encounter.

Party
7-druid
7-sorc
7-ranger
7-cleric
7-oracle
7-barbarian

The party will enter a revein coming out of a deep dark forest where they are tring to find this beast. Not knowing exactly what they are getting into.

How should i run this???

The dracolisk was "summoned" and i may want some little minion baddies wich can be humanoids or not. What do you think?

An encounter is coming up with a character level 90 party!

Yes I mean 90 as in 9X10.

I am in need of some character build/ ideas.

This level of a character will be INSANE so please do not hold back. Everything is allowed.

This (I feel) is one of the biggest struggles as a DM.

Where do you draw the line of "That was a great battle and was the perfect level of challenge."

I always seem to be one way or the other when running scenarios. Either it feels like the party got through the fight with reasonably minimal stress, or a few rounds in i have to rip the enemy back a little bit for fear of demolishing the party.

How do you prevent/deal with this?

I use correct cr for my parties. And i do realize people feel differently about the balance of how much challenge.

But when is it ok in your campaign to just kill off party members?

Or are you like me in that you're afraid to kill off a party member for the effects it will have on the story?

I want to know from players and DMs where do you feel the line is for deaths/challenge?

When do you walk away from a fight feeling accomplished, like you overcame odds?

Much Like The Lone Clerics post I want to know about your oracles. I think oracles can be all over the place and even their origin/practices can be extremely varied.

I find Oracles very interesting because of their ties to deities on a much more natural rather than forced level.

The oracle that i have in my campaign was actually a boy that the party picked up after his town was destroyed by undead. The party then took them down. He was an orphan since he was an infant and was eager to go off adventuring.

At first the party thought him just a little mascot to tag along and make wear funny things. (They had carved a dire bat up and made a bat suit for him) Eventually the party entered into battle with a crazed alchemist who was thought to be helping the party. The boy had become comfortable with the now villain and when he turned on the group he threw the boy hard against a wall knocking him out.

Once he came to, his powers were unlocked and he rose into the air pulling frigid air from the depths of space causing the villain to be covered in little crystals of ice.

As you can tell he is an oracle with the heavens Mystery. His curse is he is haunted.Sspirits can be seen tinging around him. He although completely changes when his powers come out. He doesnt understand why he becomes so angry and so strong but the gods run through his soul using him as a conduit to help guide the party in saving the world from imbalance.

Otherwise his Name is Thatch and he is a regular old kid who just loves to run around and hear adventuring stories!

I honestly wonder how many groups game to music. I've played with a few different Gms and in a certain group the GM turned on old timey 20's music (sort of like in Fallout) Because it was a D20 modern campaign set in the 20's.

I wonder how many groups play themed music or even just any kind of music?

If you do have any playing what kind?

-Moviesque epic music?

-Contemporary music?

I'm honestly curious to know if some people if any at all do.

My characters are going to be facing an accumulation of the story this next session an I'm Stuck on how i should work the boss of this climax.

The boss is a butler of the now main villain who was reently revealed to be evil and is now the leader of the metropolis the characters have been based around.

The butler is meant to act as if he is helping the characters escape the city (now filled with undead and bound guards) but right before they reach safety the butler is going to reveal his true colors as another villain.

I want him to be a brute/hulk of a fight but im not sure on special abilities/attacks and such.

Honestly im really stumped on how to reveal him and describe him to the party. Usually im fairly good at coming up with these kind of things but going from scratch i do not know what to do. The campaign is semi demon/undead based but im looking to come up with something new, or at least looks new and is based on something else.

Party level: 6/7
Overall players: 6
Cleric, Rogue, Bard, Sorcerer, Ranger (mele based), Oracle

Any ideas?

This has been a struggle i've seen with almost ALL the GM's i've gamed under. Me being a new GM i hope not to make the same mistakes they have made.

The problem being that NPC party members are a hard thing to balance, at least around the group that i've gamed with. They always seem to fall into either "Super power" or The MAIN CHARACTER role. Which i feel takes away from the player's feel of importance to the story. I most certainly do not want my players to feel as if they are just the support or along for the ride in someone else's epic.

I've seen this all too much probably due to the GM wanting to fulfill a fantasy or create a really good story without players making too much of a problem.

But on the flipside ive seen GM's (and even myself) create NPCS that just fall by the way side and become obsolete or almost forgotten. In my case i wanted more of a Gandelf feel for the NPC. (coming and going in time of need) But the players wound up just being able to handle themselves and wound up almost forgetting about the NPC.

Obvioulsy i need to change it up. I want a new NPC im currently making to be a nice part of the story but i do not in any way want him to be a superhulk that pushes the story along through only his actions and his "massive finsher moves" or special abilities.

Where is the balance?

First off this is my first time postin AND i apologize if this topic was already covered. I had done a quick search of the boards and did not find anything too helpful.

I'm a GM in a group of 5 players besides myself. Most of my players love to role play to at least some extent but! there is one player who is a good friend that just doesn't go for the bait.

I've tried so man different things. I Have had NPCS come up and talk to him personally taking him on personal quick quests and all around trying to pull on the aspects of the character but it just seems like the only pleasure he gets is from a fight.

What do you think i should do in regards to the player because it kinda drags the game just a tad when NPC and PC conversations are almost bull rushed through with this character.

Any ideas?
