And, yes you would think PbP is a great format and games will go long, but I would be surprised if more than one in 20 APs make it to book 2 on these forums. My Age of Worms game lasted four years, and when David finally packed it in I was profoundly sad.

It is hard to keep up the momentum. When DM Grimmy packed in his amazing campaign and all my games suffered huge player attrition I had to take a break. Although Pathfinder 2E didnt go in a direction I was happy with, it is good to see the amazing Pathfinder 1E support and the PRD is still an amazing free resouce. I own so many 1E adventure paths I dont see myself really trying 2E Pathfinder much, and am more likely to play 2E AD&D than 2E pathfinder.

‘Twas unearthed arcana with like barbarians getting 12d6 for str and 3d6 for int

Remember this?

If things take off I will convert one of my very obscure modules to whatever system to shed the DM load. Sadly my conversion of Swordthrust to Pathfinder was an epic disaster. Modern Pathfinder players believe in the sanctity of balanced CR and refuse to think any encounter can’t be winnable by brute force :-(

Probably would never survive going down the well!!

Most useful magic item for that module

Spade of Colossal Escavation, dig around all the traps and loot all the treasure!! When my players bought one and hired three dwarven miners to help out, I had to reward them for their ingenuity!!

My favorite Zoo Module of all time is still S2 Whiteplume Mountain, hardest part is convincing your DM to let you keep the good weapons!!

And, I can say Adam and I have a solid posting history — he was one of the first to join my first online game.
And, picking a good group is the most important thing. A shared interest in old school d&d is a good start. I need something to tear me away from Endless Space 2 — a worthy successor to Master of Orion 1/2.

Adam, you are almost a at 30K posts!!

If there is interest, count me in. I am always partial to the Hommlet or Slavers series of modules.

I think you were in my Keep on Borderlands port to Pathfinder. I uniquely appreciate the energy to run online campaigns. I would love to participate as a player.

My suggestion is that older modules have too many encounters (take all the lizardmen in the Saltmarsh modules as an extreme example). Trimming to have fewer epic encounters would be my advice.

THis was NOT a good sign when trying to get google+ hangouts going.

You've stumbled upon some vintage web tech
This website runs on older technology and will only work in Internet Explorer.

Tempted to start a virtual tabletop if I could a group to find a good four hour weekly window to get some serious RPG going.

I would be tempted to start with my favorites, which would be the Slavers series adapted to Pathfinder (A1 to A4).

Just curious if anyone would be interested in Roll20 as the medium and Core Pathfinder as the basic rule shell.

From the Roll 20 Website:
Video + Voice Chat (Including Google+ Support)

What makes tabletop gaming great? The people. While it’s not quite as good as getting around a table in person, our voice and video chat features help you see and hear your players as they spin epic tales of battle and intrigue. It doesn't require any setup, simply a WebRTC compatible browser. If you're on a slower connection, turn off the video and go audio-only. Don’t miss out on your players’ expressions during a critical roll! Read more...
Roll20 also features full support for running your games inside of Google+ Hangouts. If your players are already on Google+ and familiar with the Hangouts interface, it's just one-click to get Roll20 added to your sessions. Play on the main Roll20 site or take your game to where your players already are -- it's your choice.

I am not the best at new tech, but seems like we would need to get Google+ hangouts going too.

Sam once again give the chamber a careful once over. He even considers using the staff to poke ahead for traps.

With time being less important than his health, Sam moves carefully. He even uses his scent to detect for drafts or strange air currents in the enclosed room. Acutely alert, Sam actually feels the hairs on his neck stand up.

Not wanting to make a sound in case there is any chance of triggering some sonic trap, Sam is quiet, even his breathing barely audible in the confined space.

Perception taking 20 = 34 traps (32 things not traps)

Sam takes out his masterwork tools and motions for Jerrid to come to help.

He carefully begins to work on disabling the wire trap, allowing Jerrid to aid his hand. Four hands make working with the tools easier than one.

disable device wire: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

They move to the magical ward. Finding a way to disable the connection within the gaping maw, Sam works on the magical trigger.

disable device Azer's maw trigger: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34

Quite satisfied, Sam moves to see if the door is locked. With Jerrid's help, he moves to open the lock.

disable device if lock needs to be opened: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29

Sam quickly eases the door open a crack to get a peek inside......

Sam could find magical traps and mundane. He had trained to find traps and felt he was in his element. He works carefully through the room.

Sam meticulously moves about the room, all his senses on alert as he scans every square foot of floor and wall.

Round 3 Sam
Sam takes cover behind Vhillish and tosses a smoke stick into the room so he can advance to take out one of the leaders.

Smokestick::
This alchemically treated wooden stick instantly creates thick, opaque smoke when burned. The smoke fills a 10-foot cube (treat the effect as a fog cloud spell, except that a moderate or stronger wind dissipates the smoke in 1 round). The stick is consumed after 1 round, and the smoke dissipates naturally after 1 minute.

Knobby closes as Sam hopes his trick buys some time for the good guys to consolidate their forces. They had been caught strung out in trail so to say, and many a good mercenary company tried to avoid being caught in a marching versus fighting formation.

"Don't advance until everyone is together!!

Smoke just ahead of Vhillish -- move + deploy a smokestick. In hands now = one dagger magic

Round 2 Sam and Knotty

Sam rushes forward and waves for Knotty and Janna to follow. "Keep up Knotty, we have evil to fight!!"

Knotty follows, his roots and branches scraping along the floors and walls as the treeling tries desperately to keep up.

Sam manages to pull his cloak tight and almost disappear in shadow and his footsteps become like the feet of a cat as he manages to keep quite and shaded throughout 40' of corridor.

fast stealth: 1d20 + 19 - 5 ⇒ (20) + 19 - 5 = 34

Full move for Sam -- Run or full move for Knotty if a run is not possible (straight line and no difficult terrain and los over the entire route are prerequisites I think for Pathfinder run). Please move our tokens as far as we can. Old school had declarations of intent-- Sam is intending to get as close to Vhillish as possible.

Sam, hearing the collapse, first checks on Knotty and Janna to make sure they are ok. Then he quickly begins to plunder the area to scavenge as many valuables as he can find.

Sam had though of seeing Freya could give him a familiar to go along with his animal companion, but Knotty was already proving to be quite a responsibility. Keeping Knotty moistened was becoming quite the chore. He liked how the imp could move around invisibly, and remembered his initial struggle with the imp for the Amulet on the road that seemed ages ago. But he did not know what to feed imps, and converting one creature from evil to good was more than enough when he considered his project to rehabilitate the mercenary couple and save them from their nihilistic existence giving them a true purpose such as serving the Goddess Freya. Not to mention keeping the misguided hobbit thief from mischief. It was almost more than his little heart could take.

As the Lucerne hammer smashed the imp to what appeared to be a few bits of leathery skin and bone, Sam realized the imp truly had gotten what he deserved. He mutters: "Sucks to be him!!"

"We need to find the nasty wizard and end him like his little minion. Knotty, let me check your branches for any damage and help me load up these books."

DM Grimmy:
I think you paint the story well and have a flair for keeping the narrative moving that is quite suited to this format.

Your maps are quite good, and your ability to improvise has been quite amazing. You reward creativity and out of the box thinking, which is old school, but are quite good at tracking the tight, technical rules which Pathfinder has given us.

I would say the ride so far has been amazing and a good mix of the old and the new. I would like to join you in any narrative you wish to tell.

Sadly, most of my PbP games have died that I have played in. I can hardly bring myself to answer any more recruitments. Thankfully, your game has started up again! Good to be back with this group.
