Nice to see you Tarmin — the illusionist thief was an awesome multi class!!

Prismatic wall was an epic spell and my favorite use for wand charge.

After playing pathfinder casters it is hard going back to 1d4 Hps and no cantrips and one spell a day. I will share an old school story from the one liners forum.

I need to throw an old school story in. In a high level campaign the fighters and clerics had moved around a wall to engage a mess of demons. As the wizard, I cast a spell, glassee, the turned it into one-way glass and proceeded to target the demons and devils with magic. For protection, I never went anywhere without my friend, the thief, so I asked him to hide in the shadows near me for protection.

One incredibly powerful demon is tired of all the nasty magic laying waste to his buddies that he can't see, and teleports to the other side of the wall with his four arms full of nasty swords to teach my wizard a lesson. Of course the prepared thief is able to jump out and get in a backstab with his trusty magic longsword and dagger, and hit with both.

The longsword rolls like 70+ damage because the thief did quintuple damage. And our DM has had not had much to cheer about because we were mopping up the final battle, and he wanted to make it exciting. After checking the creature's stats, he starts jumping up and down, "He has 5 hp left!!" He starts planning on what nasty things the demon is going to do to my poor wizard.

Rich, the thief player, turns to us quietly and says, "When should I ask to roll for the dagger? I don't want to ruin his moment."

Reminds me of a story from when I first started playing, but going the other way.

We were playing Tomb of the Iron Medusa, and things are not going well in the boss fight. Half of us are stone and our only hope is the flying titan mauler barbarian. The barbarian makes it up into the face of the medusa, and the player is gearing up to dole out some damage as he rages and grows in size. The GM smiles and says, "Roll a Fort save."

The barbarian proceeds to roll a nat one and promptly turns to stone. Two managed to survive by bravely running away, but the rest of us... not so much.

Of course, the way the previous session ended should have been an omen of things to come. We were fighting elder fire elementals and the cleric's player, a young girl of about 10-12 at the time, innocently asks, "If I throw a fireball in there, will it make things worse?"

Laughter was had by all and we decided to call it a night.

I will be pretty busy over the next couple of weeks (with Christmas and New Year’s Eve), but it should afford me some time to finish up some reading and get the show on the road early 2023. Or at least that is the plan ;)

As for which version of S&W, I guess it makes sense to go with whatever is in the SRD, but there are also free versions out there I think. Older versions.

I have done some additional reading on Castles & Crusades - still not convinced you can just straight up use AD&D1e modules/adventures with it though.

May I join??

@Masterwolf1488 - this thread is an Interest Check, to see if there is enough interest from players for the DM to make a game. This differs from a more formal actual Recruitment, in which the DM posts the requirements and then players post their characters or concepts for potential selection.

It can be confusing, given this is the Recruitment forum, but some games/rulesets/editions are less popular than others at different times and thus DMs at times make a thread like this just to gauge interest. Many DMs won’t bother with an Interest Check and just make a straight Recruitment as evidenced by the multiple games recruiting for players in this forum.

And, yes you would think PbP is a great format and games will go long, but I would be surprised if more than one in 20 APs make it to book 2 on these forums. My Age of Worms game lasted four years, and when David finally packed it in I was profoundly sad.

It is hard to keep up the momentum. When DM Grimmy packed in his amazing campaign and all my games suffered huge player attrition I had to take a break. Although Pathfinder 2E didnt go in a direction I was happy with, it is good to see the amazing Pathfinder 1E support and the PRD is still an amazing free resouce. I own so many 1E adventure paths I dont see myself really trying 2E Pathfinder much, and am more likely to play 2E AD&D than 2E pathfinder.
