About Ruby Wilder
An orphan who lives on the charity of the Iomedaean mission, Ruby Wilder is a social outcast among the children of Trunau. Not a native of the town, she came to Bloodmarch Hill with her father, a prospector, almost six years ago. Her mother having died when she was an infant, she was left completely alone in the world when her father died from a fall down one of the mineshafts he and his fellows were exploring. Both her foreign origin and her dependence on the sometimes-resented interferers from Lastwall mark her as an outsider, and despite the schoolmarm's kind heart and watchful eye, the more popular of her peers don't miss a chance to remind her of the fact.
