Due to family superstition, Old Hagen Medvyed thought having a gnome around the manor would be good luck, so when Rowdy Weaselbritches was brought before him on charges of vagrancy, he allowed the young gnome the run of the manor. At his wife's insistence, Rowdy was apprenticed to the gamekeeper to keep him outside as much as possible. The young gnome's antics amused the lord to no end, giving Rowdy gifts and treating him as one of his own children. Rowdy's prized cold iron mw hooked hammer is engraved with the Medvyed family crest and motto. Rowdy played with the Medvyed children and would often lead them on "adventures" into the wilderness. Impulsive though he was, Rowdy always brought them back home again, dirty and one time bleeding, but he never lost one. When the young Medvyed declared he hated vegetables, Rowdy declared war on brocoli and was forbidden at any more family meals. After old Hagen's death, Rowdy's presence was tolerated even less in court. The children were older and some of Roddy's antics were becoming troublesome. His attack on some "poachers" turned out to be a visiting Surtova nobleman trysting with one of the manor's maids. It was decided he'd be scuttled off on an expedition south to map the Disputed Kingdoms and they even managed to convince him it was his idea.
