This is most likely a very old subject for most groups, but it only came up in my group for the first time today.

1 - Does drawing a wand provoke an attack of opportunity?

2 - Do you threaten the squares around you if you have a wand out that deals touch attacks such as a wand of shocking grasp?

I was under the impression (perhaps mistaken) that a wand was considered a weapon for the purposes of drawing and wielding it, but I can't find any evidence to support this?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I can't find any refrences to losing Ranks in skills if you have Intelligence points permanently drained from you. (Possibly because this does not happen) Is this the case? Help please, a wizards leveling up is on the line. :-)

Attended my first WW D&D Day yesterday in Pomfret, CT @ Wonderland Comics.

Fun!

The characters were very well balanced for the adventure, and the monsters were interesting and challenging. Meeting fellow players from the area that I had never been in contact with ranked a close second to the adventure. Several players had just moved into the area, and one person had been looking for a group for over a year. Thanks to this event, all three now will have a steady game to play in close to where they live. At the end of the day contact numbers were exchanged and and new friends were made. Even if I never see some of them again till next year, I will definitely go again in '08.

Did anyone else attend? Was it as fun and productive for you? This is the place to let everyone know what a good time you had, or to comment on what could be done differently next year.

The Spell Blindness from the PHB.

Fairly straight forward or so I thought until one of my group posed the following question: Does it work on Beholders? The spell description seems to lean towards a resounding "YES", but it irks me to no end that such a horrifying monster such as the iconic Beholder could be laid low by this measly spell.

1 - Has this combination of spell and multi-eyed monster ever come up in your campaigns?

2 - Do you allow it to completely blind such monsters? If so why? If not why?

3 - How about other monsters such as spiders, or hydras, or chimeras?

Help and advice greatly appreciated!

Has anyone "stated" out Turrosh Mak, leader of the Pomarj forces before? Specifically for 3.0 or 3.5?

My players are getting to the level now that they are feeling their oats. They are thinking of a "surgical strike" against this Icon of the region to calm down the invasion of Ulek that is happening in my campaign. Most likely I will end up writing a stat block myself, but I would love to compare it to anyone elses work just to see the similarities and differences. Thanks!

This is a discussion on where each of us as DM's and Players feel the line should be drawn.

When has a player crossed the line? When do you acknowledge that a character has pushed so far out of the bounderies of thier alignment that the fundamental definition of the character must be changed?

I am trying to gather opinions here to help me set down some semi-solid guidelines for my own campaign. Only recently has this become an issue, as several supposidly "good" characters have been straining my definition of "good behavior".

But when do I as the DM step in and say enough is enough?

I'll post some examples from my campaign at a later time to show what has got me into this bind.

What are the rules for natural invisability?

Page 255 and 256 in the Monster Manual for those who want to take a look...

It is listed as an extraordinary ability for the Wo'W (Will O' Wisp)

Correct me if I am interperating this incorrectly please.
Logic string to follow:

- The Wo'W has the ability to turn off it's lights and become invisible.

- *Important one* - It can do this on purpose and at will.

- Therefore the Wo'W while attacking can be completely invisible(per Improved Invisibility) and only a magic spell like Glitterdust or Detect Evil makes it visible to its opponents.
---------------------------------------------------------------

How is that? Is it right? Is it how the rest of you play a Will O' Wisp?

The only reason why I bring up this question is that one of my players found it unfair that the Wisp did not become visible after attacking. I also wondered due to the fact that the CR for these guys was pretty low for such cool abilities, which led me to question my interperatation.

They have already faced off against several of these guys and the last thing I want to do is not give out the right ammount of treasure and XP for a monsters challenge.

Help please, all thoughts and opinions welcome.

As some of you may have read elsewhere, one of my PC's has a favorite tactic of Improved Grapple.

He came up with a new twist this week that I had a hard time ajudicating on the fly. I wanted to run the situation past a few good DM's...

Player begins a grapple with an enemy, in the next round he states "ok, now I want to throw this goblin into the goblin in the next square."

It sounds simple enough, but of course it's not in the list of standard grapple moves. In fact, there is no legal move that even comes close so that I could fudge a quick rule and move on.

My final judgement was to say "no, you can't do that until you cause the goblin to drop into negative hit points. After that you can use him as an improvised weapon and toss him."

By the next round the goblin wizard had called off his troops and the PC was forced to let him go, so we never really resolved the issue.

Has anyone else had players come up with similar "out of the box" plans that require snap judgements? If anyone has a ruling on that specific scenario I would love to hear it.

Thanks - Roth

I'll go first...

We generate characters by rolling 4d6 and droping the lowest number. You do this six times, then can plug the numbers into any stat, in any order. At the beginning of this campaign I allowed players to change the numbers around a smidge by subtracting 2 points from one stat to add one point to another.

Restrictions - Almost none as long as the character comes from the Greyhawk setting (not Ebberon or FR specific) and is created from a book published before the PHB2 came out.

Does it work - I have found the characters to be more than a match for the normal monsters I throw at them from the MM and published adventures. Many of the characters have much better stats than even the Boss monsters in my campaign (which is a puished adventure, not a homebrew).

They seem really powerfull to me, and we are only reaching 10th and 11th level. I find that I have to tweek the encounters. Even then, if the party isn't facing something that is two or three ECL's above their level it's hardly a battle (two rounds at the most).

So we have a question for those who play elves out there. One of my players would like to know, what is the canon description of Grey elves? Specifically Grey elves. The MM is a bit confusing on this point.

(FYI MM pg104 has the description in question)

If it makes a difference, the campaign setting is Greyhawk.

Thanks in advance - Roth
:-)

Quick question all, one of my players brought this up and I thought I would throw it out to those who play with warforged in their groups.

What does the cleric spell Heal do for the warforged?
Is it compleatly effective?
Does it does it only give half hit points like other healing spells?(Whats half of infinity?*grin*)

I don't have warforged in my group, but one player is thinking of bringing one in as an alternate character in case "bad things" happen.

Thanks, Rath

Does anybody out there have a map of Gradsul that I can have?

I have Dungeon magazines Challenge of Champions #5 set to happen in Gradsul during the Richfest in a few weeks. I was wondering if there already existed a map of the city.

Thanks in advance to any who can help!

My wizard player has decided to go for the "Wizard King" Prestige class from Legends and Lairs - Path of Magic. Part of the requirement to obtain the class is that you create 5 new spells all "themed" together and bearing the wizards name. He hit me with his first two spells this week and I am having mixed feelings about them.

Check it out:

Lesser Spell Ward [Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V,S,M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personel
Target: You
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No

Spells cast at the wizard are absorbed + consumed. Affects a total of four (4) spell levels. This includes effects generated by spell items and spell-like abilities. Excludes area of effect spells centered on the wizard and stationary area spells such as stinking cloud.
Only affects up to 4th level spells. If not enough levels remain to absorb a spell, the ward dissipates and the spell is unaffected. This spell cannot be dispelled by Dispel Magic, nor countered in any way other than by the Shield Strike spell.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Shield Strike [Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V,S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: Single
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No

Dispels all spell protections of 4th level or lower. Includes Lesser Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser Spell Ward, and Shield.
----------------------------------------------------------------

I would love to hear peoples opinions on these. My initial reaction was a knee jerk "No!" when I saw that the first spell could ONLY be counterd by the second (which only the player will have access to), but maybe some one else will feel differently.

When I asked the player "why do you want to make these spells?". The answer I got was "I want to see more battles where the two wizards have to strip down each others defenses before they get off the killing spell."

Had this come up in yesterdays game. The party happened to overhear a conversation in which they learned the true name of a demon they will likely have to fight later on in the adventure. The folks @ WotC tried to be helpful when I called, but the reality is that they have not addressed this question yet in v3.5 books.

So... In your own campaigns, what special powers/favors/protections does knowing a demons true name give your players? I have told the group I would come up with something by next session (next friday), and really would like to hear from all of you out there.

With the new Dragon Compendium not carrying the Living Greyhawk Journal articles, can some one give me the numbers of the old issues that they appeared in? I have a local hobby store with a TON of back issues and want to go in armed with issue numbers as opposed to spending a week pouring through old mags. Help!! Tanks - Rath
