About Rosko NarievkoAppearance:
His hair is walnut-brown and is incredibly thick. It is pulled into a futile topknot that has all but become a gnarled hump atop his head. His beard is very bushy, its curls wrapping around one another and extending down to the neck of his shirt. His eyes are almond-shaped and bright green.
He wears a pair of comfortable form-fitting brown hide pants, held up by a dark leather belt embossed with stylized runes and capped with an intricately worked metal buckle. The cuffs of his pants are tucked into tall, heavy boots which might have once been yellow, but have long been overtaken by a crust of dried gray mud. His tucked woolen shirt is dark gray in color and is buttoned nearly to the top, allowing only a little bit of chest hair to poke through. His sleeves have been rolled up to the elbows, exposing thickly-corded forearms and the tail end of what must surely be a large tattoo on his left arm. The backs of his hands are tattooed as well, with familiar symbols: his left hand bears the hammer of Torag, while the right carries the bent bow of Erastil. If you're from Daggor, you know:
Rosko is a native of Daggor, and spent his adolescent years exploring local caves looking for new routes into the Kings. The climbing, digging, and general exploring was as rigorous a training as any military boot camp, and his strength grew rapidly. He soon outpaced all but a few of the other townsfolk, and even bested a few visiting adventurers over the years in arm wrestling matches and other feats of strength. When he was old enough, he was apprenticed to a carpenter in town and took to it easily. Roughly two-thirds of the buildings in Daggor either were built by Rosko or were repaired by Rosko in the last thirty-odd years.
For this reason, Rosko is fiercely proud and protective of his hometown. When festivals and market days would take him up the river to Caldamin, he represented Daggor well and defended its honor if there was anyone foolish enough to doubt it. Though Rosko can at times be a hothead, his faith in Erastil and Torag remind him to his duty toward, and commitment to, his community at large. Personality:
Rosko comes off as antisocial, but that's not precisely true. He is all but obsessed with old ruins and caverns - the heritage of the stout folk - and when most other people in town don't want to spend twelve hours spelunking into dark and unexplored caverns in the foothills of the Kings, he's just as fine going it alone. He loves a good drink, smokes his pipe often, and is generally friendly - and when he's working on construction projects around town, he's as diligent and attentive to detail as any dwarf. If something were to threaten the town, or if he could only find some more folks that were just as interested in descending down into the earth as him, his life might take a rather large turn. Family:
Rosko has three brothers and a sister; three of the four have left the town to make their names elsewhere. His older sister and eldest brother left several years ago, heading to Almas to commission a ship which might take them Absalom. She had hoped to join the Irorium and push herself to learn the finest martial techniques, while he had believed his destiny was with the Pathfinders. Both seem to have made it safely, if their letters were anything to judge by.
His second-oldest brother is tragically missing, though Rosko and his family do not know most of the details. What they have been able to piece together is partial at best. As the brother was visiting neighboring Bellis, a local malevolent mage had led a squadron of fiends into the town. The fiends - no one could agree if they were demons, devils, or something even more sinister - had possessed some townsfolk, killed others, and enslaved still more. By the time a contingent of Eagle Knights had arrived, the wizard and his cohorts had left. Rosko's brother hadn't been found among the bodies, but his fate remains unknown. His youngest brother was always a bit of a goofball - pulling pranks, scaring livestock, even disrupting the weekly Torag worship ceremonies. He's scarcely 20, though, so such youthful irresponsibilities are to be expected - but Rosko sometimes jokingly wonders aloud if his little brother's half gnome.

Secret background:
With his penchant for exploring old dwarven tombs and abandoned tunnels, Rosko found - or was found by - a spectre who claimed to be one of his ancestors. The spirit led Rosko to a wholly unexplored mausoleum, where atop a pedestal sat a simple stone box - a box which, according to the spirit, held the destiny of the family. Warily, Rosko examined the box, and reached out gingerly to pick it up. The moment he made contact, the spectre immediately vanished and Rosko felt a shock reverberate throughout his entire body, causing him to upend the box which then shattered strangely on the floor. Confused and ashamed, Rosko fled the crypt and made his way back to Daggor, and never spoke of these events. He tries to forget what happened, but for now that has proven impossible. |
