Special Abilities:

------------------------------
SPECIAL ABILITIES
------------------------------
Deep Warrior: Dwarves with this racial trait grew up facing the abominations that live deep beneath the surface. They receive a +2 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the aberration type and a +2 racial bonus on combat maneuver checks made to grapple such creatures (or to continue a grapple). This racial trait replaces defensive training.

Greed: Dwarves gain a +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks made to determine the price of non-magical goods that contain precious metals or gemstones.

Hardy: Dwarves gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities.

Hatred: Dwarves gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against humanoid creatures of the orc and goblinoid subtypes because of their special training against these hated foes.

Minesight: Dwarves with this racial trait increase the range of their darkvision to 90 feet; however, they are automatically dazzled in bright light and take a –2 penalty on saving throws against effects with the light descriptor. This racial trait replaces darkvision.

Relentless: Dwarves are skilled at pushing their way through a battlefield, tossing aside lesser foes with ease. Dwarves with this racial trait receive a +2 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to bull rush or overrun an opponent. This bonus only applies while both the dwarf and his opponent are standing on the ground. This racial trait replaces stability.

Sense Aberration: Dwarves with this trait gain a +2 racial bonus on Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks and on Perception checks to notice disguised or hidden aberrations. This racial trait replaced stonecunning.

Siegebreaker At 1st level, a siegebreaker can attempt bull rush or overrun combat maneuvers without provoking attacks of opportunity. When he performs either combat maneuver, he deals an amount of bludgeoning damage equal to his Strength bonus (minimum 1). If he has Improved Bull Rush or Improved Overrun, the damage dealt by the appropriate maneuver increases by 2 and he adds any enhancement bonus from his armor or shield (though such enhancement bonuses do not stack, if both armor and shield are magic).

This ability replaces the feat gained at 1st level.

Weapon Familiarity: Dwarves are proficient with battleaxes, heavy picks, and warhammers, and treat any weapon with the word “dwarven” in its name as a martial weapon.

Background:

Rorag had one task. He fought, and held the horrors of the depths off of his brethren as they plumbed the depth for ore. He was a deep warrior. But then the day came, the day that every dwarf of Magthera I made that up, don’t bother looking it up all knew would come to each of them eventually. His party was overrun in the mines. The flight haunts his nightmares even through the fugue, but eventually Rorag clawed his way to the bright sun of the surface, lost and alone. The sole survivor of a party of twenty battle-hardened warriors, most of them older and more experienced than he. He wandered for years, directionless and guilt-ridden, playing the events of that day over in his head, trying to find what he could have done to save them, while in his nights he lived it again, over and over. Eventually, rumors reached Rorag of strange happenings, disappearances in a pattern he remembered, a pattern he knew, had studied. Something long dead stirred when he heard those rumors, and Rorag was off, trudging through the countryside under the glare of the punishing sun.

Appearance and Personality:

At first, the little dwarf acts much as he has his entire time on the surface. He can feel the guilt, even not knowing what it is about. But as events progress and his memories reveal themselves, Rorag begins to change. As he remembers the events that led him to the surface piecemeal, he sees that they are not his fault. But Rorag Stonebeard knows who is to blame, and he’ll be damned to the lowest reaches of the pits if he doesn’t take as many aberrations down with him as is dwarfily possibly. His rage grows, and with it, Rorag becomes more himself than he has been for years. The short dwarf with the stone-gray beard is not going to lose anyone else.
