In a mid to high level campaign the rogue got hit with a hold person and failed his saves - problem was that it came from a rod and was quickened. Next spell was pit - GM said no saved allowed as he was held, kinda sucked for him.

Not to steal from an overdone idea, but you could use it - have the party sneak or infiltrate into a holy temple in a city dedicated to that deity.
In there they must acquire something that is held in extremely high regard by the clergy and worshipers. Make the relic be equivalent to a piece of the cross from the cruxifixion or a text from muhammand. Something of that importance would be extemely well guarded and after it is gone and if they party was successful - they now have to deal with an angry deity and followers. Talk about constantly looking over their shoulders.

But also with an item like this think of some of the most deadliest traps to throw at them. Something of this value should not be a cake walk.

What is to stop the NPC or victim to "take 20" as well? I am under the opinion that opposed checks does not allow the use of "take 20" - we made it a rule that you cannot "take 20" during player vs player or player vs NPC checks.

Sounds like a cool class- kudos for the work and idea.

But I do have a question, I know you wrote that the Calibur can never be destoryd but what of Disjunction or Sphere of Annihilation?

AMF I assume that the Caliber is just suppressed. But could it be destroyed while in the AMF by other means?
