Backstory: Rill is the eldest daughter of a family of fishers and fishmongers around Yolubilis Harbor. As a child, she admired the Order of the Torrent (though confused as to why they continued to call themselves Hellknights), and Rill would train with her spearfishing trident in the hopes of one day joining their ranks. She and her family worship the empyrean lord Ylimancha to keep them safe on the seas and to gift them with a bounty of fish, though the recent bans on good-aligned deity worship has driven them to do so in secret. Not to be seen as "betraying" her, Rill took up further self-training to become a paladin in the hopes that her devotion and hard work would prove herself and her family worthy. But while her family was content with just keeping their heads down and continuing as normal, Rill began growing more and more frustrated with Thrune's tyranny. Though she wants to help any way she can, she felt like she couldn't do anything alone. That's when she received an omen from Ylimancha. One of gulls in the bay was acting oddly, lethargic and gazing blankly at a worn poster for the recently-closed opera house. After a few futile pecks at the paper, the gull grabbed the corner in its beak and flew off in the direction of the building itself, tearing the advertisement. It was then Rill remembered: There was going to be a protest there soon. More people than just her were fed up with this oppression, and this would be a perfect opportunity to be with like-minded individuals... Appearance: Standing at roughly 5'8", Rill is a lithe, though slightly muscled, and fair-skinned (though usually tanned due to her profession) human with long, dark, almost navy-blue hair she usually keeps tied into a ponytail. Preferring loose clothing, her normal attire consists of a short-sleeved sea blue tunic, a long, flowing skirt, and a pair of leather boots. When working, she tends to remove her tunic and skirt to keep them from getting dirty, leaving her in a white undershirt and knee-length bloomers. Her armor is stained a prismatic blue color, resembling the scaled body of a fish, with her shield bearing a stylized image of a gull, the divine symbol of Ylimancha. Personality: Rill is a very upbeat and cheerful person, always trying to see the bright side of things, and is almost overbearingly polite and formal. She has a very romanticized view of the world due to her experiences on the seas, growing up hearing stories of the Order of the Torrent, as well as her own fascination with reading novels. She has a very flowery way of speaking, but it's not really clear if she even knows what some of the words she says even mean. Some fun facts:
- Rill absolutely loves tea, and the proclamation against drinking tea at night hit her the hardest.
- She also loves swimming and the water in general, and likes going out into the water to ruminate. - Her politeness and formality comes from attending Lady Docur's School for Girls at her father's insistence. Though she vastly prefers being a fisher than a "proper lady", some of the lessons she was taught nonetheless stuck with her. - She wished to attend the Alabaster Academy to learn about medicines, but her parents forbade her, citing the academy's poor reputation in the past. Reason to Protest: To Protest the Government - Thrune’s takeover of Kintargo is just that—a takeover. Despite the government’s claims that the new lord-mayor will only remain as long as the rebellions of the Glorious Reclamation to the distant southeast continue, you fear that Barzillai Thrune and martial law might be here to stay. The time is right to strike a blow against the oppression and to make the voice of the city heard, for if Kintargo’s citizens simply roll over and accept their new lives, restoring the city to its people will become nearly impossible. You’re planning on attending the Aria Park protest specifically because it’s the largest and most organized protest yet, and if there’s any chance to make your voice heard, it’s now! You gain a +2 bonus on all Bluff and Intimidate checks made during the protest itself. Rill's Family:
Aslak: Rill's father. A stout fisherman and sailor who is very pious. He taught Rill the proper methods to revere and pray to Ylimancha. Though chafing under Thrune's tyranny like everyone else, he nonetheless would rather keep his head down and grin and bear it rather than rock the boat and risk reprisal for attempting to stand up against the mayor. He's against Rill involving herself with the rebellion.
Maya: Rill's mother. A former adventurer whom Aslak had hired to serve on one of his sea outings. She fell in love with the man because of his bravery in risking his life at sea to make his livelyhood. She's quite disappointed in the his cowardice regarding the newly-appointed mayor. As a former adventurer, she does understand and support the rebellion, but restricts herself to less "active" roles in the rebellion to avoid suspicion. She trained Rill in fighting with her trident and other weapons. Gully: Or "Gull" for short. Rill's younger brother. A bratty and rambunctious ten-year-old constantly full of energy and never knowing when to shut up. He's the most vocal about opposing the mayor, due to his proclamations preventing him from getting his hands on his favorite mint candies. Has a habit of sharing embarrassing stories about people or sharing too much information. |
