Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Very sorry to hear that. Take whatever time you need of course; this shit doesn't matter compared to real life, especially not something that major.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Did our game die before we finished the first room?

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Spoiler:
I'm not much of a leader; I prefer to let others make the decisions. I'm afraid there's not much that I'm able to do for your eyes right now, but I'm sure we can get you all out of here safely. What's your name friend? Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

After cleaning and re-sheathing his blade, Belen returns to the survivors.

Sorry for the terse introduction friends. Now that we are all safe for the immediate future, perhaps we can offer proper assistance?

Belen approaches the injured elf. May I have a look at your injury sir?

Assuming he lets me look, I'll try an untrained heal check to determine the extent and nature of his injuries.

Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Well, if everyone else is going to attack, Belen will too. He's nothing if not easily led.

Stay behind me folks; we'll clear a path and then get you all out of here safely.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

If no enemy has moved before Belen's turn, he follows Peter's lead and moves 30' closer to the gigantic spider before reading an attack.

readied attack:

Greatsword, PA: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 1 = 11
slashing damage: 2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 + 3 = 11

If an enemy does approach Peter before Belen's turn, he either moves to it and attacks (same as above spoiler), or, if possible, charges it instead (as above spoiler, but with an extra +2 on the to-hit roll.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Corporal, should I attack the spider? It seems to me that we're going to have to take these survivor past it to get out of here, and some of them don't look to be in as good of shape as they claim.

No offense Anevia.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

This should link to Belen's journal wiki. I'm unsure if it is an editable link or not.

https://db.tt/Mv4zypAQ

edit: It would appear that while it can be freely edited, the changes won't be saved unless I make the changes to my local copy of the file.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

More or less, I guess.

It just seems like either google or microsoft would have a way to create a text-focused documents that could be formatted like a regular word document, without having printing area, page length, or even needing defined borders. For something that will never be printed, tying the format and layout strictly to an imaginary page, rather than just to the screen display seems needlessly restrictive.

WYSIWYG wiki pages would serve the function I suppose, but for some uses I'd still want a single file rather than an outright web page. I think a campaign journal (or a campaign loot list) would be such uses.

Actually, I think I found something that might work for my purposes. TiddlyWiki looks both easy to use, and easy to store online. I'm going to play around with it for a bit and then see if I can make a link to it.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Anyone know of a simple way to make an in-character campaign journal? I'd like to try to keep track of the various NPCs and places and plots and so forth that we run into. Given the length of an AP, plus the time frame that a PbP game dictates, there's not much chance of me actually remembering much of the information, and especially not my in-character reactions and opinions of them if I don't write this stuff down.

A Google Doc or Word Doc would work fine - if I could figure out a way to set them up without being designed as something meant to be printed on physical paper.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Sounding rather disconcerted by that, Belen asks Does that make our situation better or worse?

As long as the spider doesn't approach, Belen will stay between the spider and the survivors with his weapon ready.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Belen's not the most perceptive of fellows. It's part of why he learned long ago to do as he's told - he knows that other people notice things that he doesn't.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

My name is Belen, Anevia. But I think we had best hold off on full introductions for a minute. If you three can move, please slowly work your way behind my companions and I. Unless that spider is with you?

As he's speaking to the newcomers, Belen is slowly moving around them, trying to place himself between them and the apparent threat.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

I also prefer strict.

(As for listing the room number, I think it's necessary. The only way to reliably allow the GM to keep us in the dark about magic items and accurate values of gems and such is if our lists make it as easy as possible for him to look items up at a later time.)

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

I think that'll be an excellent idea.

How closely are we going to track encumbrance? I'm used to strictly following the rules on it; if we're going to do so, a supply / loot sheet should include who's carrying stuff (or where we have it stored once/if we get a base of operations) so that we wind up having to decide what to leave behind at some point.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Taking up a position near the wizard, Belen draws out his greatsword, checking it for damage as he does so. It seems that Terendelev has saved the four of us from any significant harm. I hope we prove worthy of her effort.

After bowing his head for moment, Belen continues. We must escape this cavern and determine what is left of the city. There must be other survivors who either need our protection or to whom we may add our strength.

After looking around for a minute, Belen sounds much less confident. Does anyone see a way to escape this cavern?

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Oh my head. Is anyone else awake? Is anyone else alive? Belen starts trying to explore the darkness that surrounds him by touch - attempting to determine where he is without bumping anything. If he's still at the bottom of that rift, pushing on the wrong rock could bring the rest down on his head. And the heads of anyone else who remains alive.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

Toxic, what do you want us to put in our profile fields for display?

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

A young man, with darker skin that most of the locals, and a cheerful, excited expression, is barely able to sit still in his seat. He is alternating between excitedly squirming like an eager little boy and closing his eyes and controlling his breathing to regain his calm demeanor.

As he looks back and forth, hoping to spot Lord Hulrun, he notices you sitting next to him. Isn't this exciting? I've never been to an Armasse festival before. They celebrate it at home of course, but not like this! And Aroden wasn't important to my family, so we never actually went to the celebrations. Hopefully I'll have a chance to improve my fighting skills - maybe I'll even get to squire for some important knight!

Finally taking a breath, the young man, who you now realize is little more than a boy, despite the apparent age that his stubble, greatsword, and unusual red armour lend him, realizes that he's rambling to a total stranger.

Ah. Sorry. The masters always said I talk too much. I'm Belen, from Absalom. I was a student at a monastery there, although I was never very good at the meditating. A few months ago when some recruiters came to the city, I signed up to join the Crusade.

He finally pauses long enough to allow you to speak.

My class is a link to the art which inspired the character. At the moment, Belen's not wearing the helmet or carrying the sansetsukon. For now, he's using a greatsword like all the "proper" paladins who recruited him.

Male Vudrani Paladin 1

I've found it as well.

I don't know how to change the title; I've never GM'd a PbP here.

I noticed the same thing Peter. While I'm starting in Paladin, it's not my favored class and I'll never be getting any actual spellcasting. So, if I understand things correctly, I can use wands once / if we get some, but that's all. (My intention is to build into Champion of Irori - eventually - via Sohei w/ a Ninja dip for Cha-based ki)

Dunno Toxic. It's loading fine for me.

Thanks Toxic. looking forward to it.

Toxic, approximately how long do you expect selection to take? Not rushing you, just curious.

I'd like to offer Belen for consideration. My intention is for him to be a rather atypical Champion of Irori.

Belen grew up in Absalom, and has very little interest in Vudra, much to his parents dismay. While he has always been dutiful and obeyed their wishes, even to the point of joining an Irorian monastery, Belen has spent all his free time sneaking around Absalom at night, defending the helpless. And when a crusade recruiter told him of the latest call for brave warriors to fight off the demonic menace in Mendev, he decided that it was his duty to sign up.

His parents were heartbroken when they learned that their only son had signed up to, as they see it, get himself needlessly killed. But in the end, they accepted that he'd given his word and would certainly go. So they changed tack and made him promise to use whatever trickery he needs to when fighting the demons as they are deceitful and without honor and there is thus no obligation to fight fairly against them.

Once at the worldwound, Belen quickly found himself on a training mission, patrolling an area that was supposed to be safe. When his group was attacked, Belen was cut off from the others and was forced to hide from passing demons for several hours. Shortly before the next dawn, he was awakened by a mysterious woman, who led him back to safety, avoiding several patrols along the way.
