Appearance:

In his true form, Reikou is a kitsune with auburn fur and golden eyes. Currently he has only a single tail which tends to twitch nervously.

Reikou's human form is that of a Tian-Min which also possesses golden eyes. He has straight black hair and doesn't possess the tattoos that many Tian-Mins do.

He possesses a slender but healthy and agile build in both of his forms. It is common for him to seem a bit distracted or absent minded, but when he engages in conversation his strong and stubborn personality comes out. Since both of his forms tend to stand out in Ustalav he often wears a blue robe with a hood to avoid drawing too much attention to himself.

Background:
Reikou is not living in Ustalav by choice. Rather, it seems that various forces have decided that the kitsune needed to be there whether he liked it or not.

The Forest of the Spirits in Tian Xia is where Reikou was born and raised. Soon after he reached his nineteenth birthday he began having dreams about an unfamiliar land infested with undead and every time he woke up he had an overpowering feeling that something was calling him there. However, he did his best to ignore the dreams rather than go along with them. He didn't know whether he was going crazy or if he something really was calling him, but he intended to just live out his normal life.

Unfortunately for Reikou, whatever forces were bothering him didn't seem content to leave him alone. Strange things began happening to him soon after the dreams began. Whenever he became stressed he found himself speaking in a strange tongue instead of Senzar. He did his best to hide this and often pretended that he was losing his voice. However, when one day his touch healed a gash one of his younger sisters had gotten he know that he wasn’t going to be able to hide whatever was happening to him forever.

Finally, one night he had an especially vivid nightmare involving undead closing in upon him. Several voices called to him in the same language that he had begun speaking, but now he found that he could understand it. The voices scolded him for not taking his calling seriously, and said that they had decided to take matters into their own hands. A wave of light radiated from Reikou and destroyed the undead. Moments later, Reikou was hit with a wave of nausea and woke up to find that he was no longer in his home.

It didn't take long for Reikou to realize that he was now in the land he had been dreaming about. He was stuck in a foreign land where he did not even know the name of the native language. Not that being able to speak the native tounge would have helped, because Reikou found that he could speak nothing but the strange tongue that he had been cursed with. Even though he tried using his human form, his Tian appearance still stood out too much and he was driven to the outskirts of the first town he managed to stumble upon.

Reikou likely would have starved to death if Professor Lorrimor had not been attracted by the spectacle of what appeared to be an extremely lost Tian. To Reikou’s surprise, the professor knew the language that he was speaking and was able to communicate with him. It did not take long for the professor to realize that Reikou was an oracle and offered to help him if he would answer some questions about his curse and his abilities. Reikou quickly agreed.

In exchange for learning about Reikou’s experiences and about Tian Xai, Professor Lorrimor taught him how to speak Common, about Ustalav, and what he knew about oracles. Reikou answered the professors questions the best he could, though on occasion he couldn't help but give into his kitsune nature and embellish things a bit. Thankfully, the professor seemed to take embellishments that he noticed in good humor.

Much to Reikou's relief, finally having someone around who could explain what was happening to him seem to help him calm down enough that he could regain control of his speech. Eventually Reikou because so thankful to the the professor that he risked revealing his kitsune form because he believed the man would be interested in learning about his race. It turned out that Reikou was right, and the professor spent hours asking him about the nature of kitsunes and what it was like to be a shapeshifter.

The professor had essentially saved Reikou’s life, and the kitsune promised that he would return the favor one day. For now though, Reikou resolved to gain proper control over his powers as an oracle and discern his purpose. Whatever forces had chosen him, it seemed that they were not going to simply let him return home without accomplishing the tasks they intended for him. The fact that he had been given powers over life and healing lead him to realize that whatever he needed to do it was probably going to do some good for a land infested with undead.

After nearly a year of wandering Ustalav while posing as a Tian healer, word of Professor Lorrimor’s death reached Reikou. Hearing about the death of the man who had saved him greatly saddened Reikou, but he was surprised to hear that he had been mentioned in the man’s will. Soon afterwards Reikou’s dreams became disturbed again, and it did not take long for him to suspect that Professor Lorrimor was tied in with what the fates had planned for him.
