I am so sorry to all of you. But I need to stop playing in this game, and I apologize for how that affects all of you. Perhaps, though, the current transition is the best possible time to do so.

I currently find myself struggling to keep from being overwhelmed, which has affected my reliability and consistency as a player. I have no excuses, just a sincere apology for the way this impacts all of you who have been an absolute pleasure to game with.

This games has been extremely enjoyable, and I am so thankful that you all have given me the opportunity to run as well as take part in what I still am pretty convinced is the greatest system currently for fantasy gaming :). Thank you for all of the work you put into this, Frogfoot, and your own reliability and consistency in all the games we shared. This decision has nothing to do with the games themselves, and everything to do with my current inability to engage in them to the degree that honors you and your own commitments to it.

I appreciate you all, should I ever manage to get my crap together I look forward to gaming with you at some point in the future, should you decide to give me another chance.

If Regos could hear Orwell's panicked pleas, he'd be a bit worried for everyone within that cavern. But at the moment, he's dazed and overwhelmed. His whole body burns from the fire inside, being pumped through his veins. Even his saliva seems to be on the verge of boiling, and his breath like steam. He drops to his knees, still seeing visions Numaloyo.

May he never forget that image.

Male Human Immolator 1 | XP: 6 | HP: 4/16 | Armor: 0 | Str: -1 Dex: +0 Con: +0 Int: +2 Wis: +1 Cha: +1 | Damage: D8 -- (-1 to all non-basic moves)

Dropping to his knees as he can feel the surge building and building, Regos can feel the pressure mounting and knows he must release it. He fears for the others, but more than that he fears for their village and his people.

Let me wield your heart, Numaloyo. The rock, and magma, and light, and heat.

Such material can hardly be considered flame, though many properties are shared. He has made his love furious, but he still petitions her like a stubborn suitor.

Take from me, if you wish. But let me direct your fury, just for a moment...
The following is contingent on Numaloyo's permission:

When the pressure feels as though it can't mount any further without losing himself, he forces the flood through the heart that surges upward--trying to direct spouts specifically toward the rods that are creating the light toward which Orwell retreats, as well as trying to direct her fury away from their home.

Zuko Style?: 2d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6, 3) + 1 - 1 = 9
I had forgotten his -1 modifier on previous rolls, I remember it here ;)

Also, he will take the full 1d8 if Numaloyo allows this use. Though I'm aware she may have other requisites.

He can feel himself losing control! "Somebody help me!" he yells out. "Help me focus, don't let me lose this!"

Regos rushes clockwise around the cavern, trying to position himself somewhere that he might be able to cut off escape. As he does so he tries to pull from the heat around him to form a large spear in his hand. He's not hoping to get up close and personal, but can protect a wider area with such a long weapon. His hands begin to heat up as light spills out in a slender beam beginning to form the shaft of the spear.

Regos has been following the others in relative silence. Olivius' maneuvers were impressive, making a potentially dangerous situation much more manageable.

As the enter the room with Numaloyo's heart, Regos is stunned. He doesn't even notice the interlopers until Kano's rage draws attention to them.

Does it look like the group has been noticed yet?

"All things considered, I think that worked out well." Regos blurts out in the dim glow of the magma. It's a weak defense, but worth attempting. "We got away from those things, and we got inside the mountain... so those are the important aspects to remember when we relate this!"

He hadn't noticed Temellen's absence until Sinathel points it out. As she does, his confidence begins to wane. "Did he not make it in? I really thought he was ahead of me... I thought all of you were."

The other two seem to be covering his questions in their own discourse however, so the immolator's voice gradually fades. He lets them hash it out while he tries to get a better look at their surroundings. He's not poking around, but at the very least trying to see where they are. Would it be too serendipitous for there to be a passage from here that they could follow, or are they trapped in here for good as soon as this magma cools?

I still think you're beautiful when you're angry. Regos quips as he charges toward the cave where the others are retreating. There's a large bruise welling up on his face from where the stone struck him, but he's absolutely fascinated by the way it seemed to melt on contact, joining the rest of the magma spewing around him.

That's likely to slow those marauders a bit as well. I'll count it as a win, even if this is nothing like what I intended.

I'll opt for reducing damage... more coming.

Forgive me, Numaloyo. Regos thinks as he turns around to view the Elephant-riders. "We need to go deeper still!" he shouts to the others. "There is something greatly agitating this island, and I'm certain it's more than these corrupted creatures. We can stay and fight them, but I fear we'd be losing even more ground on the real threat!"

He bounds a small distance down the hill, getting clear of the rest of the group and charging to get in front of even Kano and the stranger Bolus. Help me route your assaulters, great volcano.

He lifts his hands to his side, outstretched with palms facing upward. It's getting hotter. You're beautiful when you're angry. Let me focus that rage. Let me show them how gorgeous you can be.

Pulling at the edges of the flame that skirt the path upward, he tries to draw them across the path like a flaming veil or curtain.

Zuko Style: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 = 5

Zuko Style:
When you bend a flame to your will, roll+WIS. On a 10+ it does as you command, taking the shape and movement you desire for as long as it has fuel on which to burn. On a 7-9 the effect is short-lived, lasting only a moment.

Man, oh man.

Regos keeps an eye on the flames at the edge of their path, judging whether they pose a significant threat or not. He could try to shape them, simply to move them back, but doesn't want to risk accidently fueling them instead. Numaloyo seems angry at the moment, and the young man doesn't wish to insult her. She impresses him greatly, and he wants to respect that.

"Watch the flames." he warns the others as they climb. "It could do us good to be cautious. But if they threaten us, I will try and push them back. May Numaloyo be gracious."

With a light in his eyes, Regos pulls at the crimson end of one side of his mustache. "Then let's head up. You..." he continues, pointing to Bolus. "Since you may know a bit more about these insects than we do, might you join us?

Male Human Immolator 1 | XP: 6 | HP: 4/16 | Armor: 0 | Str: -1 Dex: +0 Con: +0 Int: +2 Wis: +1 Cha: +1 | Damage: D8 -- (-1 to all non-basic moves)

"Well if we don't have further direction, then we should head to the volcano. Something is disturbing it, and we're more likely I think to find something at the source."

Male Human Immolator 1 | XP: 6 | HP: 4/16 | Armor: 0 | Str: -1 Dex: +0 Con: +0 Int: +2 Wis: +1 Cha: +1 | Damage: D8 -- (-1 to all non-basic moves)

"I'm at a loss." Regos admits. "I had hoped we might find direction here, where they had attacked before. But all we've found is... you." He motions toward Bolus, with his strange wand that seems to harness the energy of the storms.

"You said you came with others? Where can we find them? I can't make heads or tails of these bugs."

"Oh," suddenly he remembers something that might benefit the others, "it seems that they may be able to adapt to extreme situations if pushed to it. I ignited some earlier that were ravaging a boar, and rather than falling to the flames they simply embodied them. Unfortunate, eh?"

Male Human Immolator 1 | XP: 6 | HP: 4/16 | Armor: 0 | Str: -1 Dex: +0 Con: +0 Int: +2 Wis: +1 Cha: +1 | Damage: D8 -- (-1 to all non-basic moves)

Regos is grateful to see that Kano wasn't put in too dangerous of a spot by the immolator's miscalculations. But then he's bothered by something Bolus says. "You say you brought these from your time?"

The time travelling issue hasn't been an easy one to get his head around, even hearing stories about the others that have arrived and claimed the same. But luckily they laid the groundwork the Bolus now gets to build upon with such unusual claims.

"Do you know then where we can find a source? Do they replicate like our bugs, or can we slowly exterminate them? Is there a place that the elephants congregate, as they seem to be targeted at the moment?" Then, as if he doesn't really expect an answer to his questions, he begins searching around for a sign of what direction these bugmen might have come from. He digs around through the brush searching for more of the strange insects or a sign of what direction they've been coming from.

Regos has finally finished stomping out the flames. He is ragged, dust-covered, and all around disheveled from the recent experience but alive. Suddenly he remembers Kano.

"Warboss Kano!" He bursts, with alarm on his face. "He was stuck on the other side of the lava." He looks at the confused Bolus, mind reeling with questions of his own but unable to ask them. Maybe he's the bigger threat at the moment as the warboss can likely fend for himself.

"Calm down, we helped you remember?" His hands are outstretched, attempting a calming position.

Yeah, you still get xp for them. But it's important to point out that a roll NEVER results in NOTHING, even a discern realities or spout lore. The mechanics of this game are set up to constantly be driving forward.

So failing on a Spout Lore or Discern Realities means that while you're struggling to discover or remember something, something bad happens in the mean time. Or perhaps you do discover/remember something but it's something you really wish you didn't notice/recall. So you deserve XP for those failed rolls, because the world just got nastier as a result... which is what makes this game so great!

Phew! I saw the post this morning before my drive to work and figured I'd use that time to come up with a plan. I honestly hadn't come up with anything other than latching onto the trunk and balling up in hopes of enduring it... defy danger (con) maybe. Thanks Bolus!

Regos rolls free from the trunk, quickly skirting free of the flames he was being used to smother. How bad are the flames? Does it look like they'll spread?

If I can't tell just by looking:
Regos quickly moves to the small fire, trying to clear any of the brush around it that might catch if it gets try enough. Is the ring spreading? He'll try stomping out some of the sides to see if the quick act can smother it. If such an act is futile, then they have a potential problem.

Regos steps quickly out of the flames, though he's still in the path of the rapidly approaching elephant. Using the last of his conjured projectiles, it hurls the object at the ground near where the coals he was just standing amidst have already been slowly drying the lush greenery. It's a play to create a burst big enough to stop the charging animal. And with any luck, he'll have some flames he can work with as well.

Really smart, Olivius! I wouldn't have thought of what would happen if I killed the bug man.

After everything the young man resolved, considering the requisite of sacrifice, even he flinched as he entered the flames. Even he is not as resolute as he had hoped.

Sacrifice.

One can flail, or roll, or leap... whatever sort of preservation tactic they prefer. But it's likely that every creature these bugs have overtaken has tried the same. To really deal with problems, once must be willing to sacrifice, and our own nature always drives us away from that option.

Regos flees to the semi-circle of smoking flames, and steps into the dancing light. His legs already burn, and this will be unbearably painful. But it's the surest way to remove the vermin before they can do to him as they have the elephant.

I don't know if this needs a defy danger roll. If so, probably a CON one? Or if you think it's more likely that I just take damage as the cost, Regos assumes as much.

Male Human Immolator 1 | XP: 6 | HP: 4/16 | Armor: 0 | Str: -1 Dex: +0 Con: +0 Int: +2 Wis: +1 Cha: +1 | Damage: D8 -- (-1 to all non-basic moves)

It's taken a second to assess the situation, and not a lot of it makes sense yet. But the pachyderm covered in insects likely isn't helping at the moment. So with a bullet pitch, Regos flings his second fiery papaya at the crawling mess, then tries to position himself somewhere with a tree or rock between himself and the other one. He imagines these things can charge, and wouldn't mind anything that could potentially slow that run.

Regos shakes his head in astonishment, stunned at what just happened and the grace of Ku. "Go!" Kano bellows again, snapping the young man from his shock. His legs are badly burned from the heat that licked up around him as he tried to cross the fallen tree, which is not an unfamiliar feeling. But it hasn't grown any more comfortable. Until they peel, sleeping is going to be rather painful again.

He looks quickly for the other bug-man that had already crossed, finally deciding that it doesn't matter much where the man went as he still needs to get back to that clearing where the others were. Some guide you turned out to be, he chides, then rushes toward the crashing sounds up ahead. Every branch and frond that scrapes against his blistering legs sends flashes of brilliantly white pain.

Grunting and sweating, he bursts into the opening in time to see two large elephants--one of which is covered in swirling insects like a living second skin. Gonna need to read this one for a second, before I launch another fireball.

Regos meets Kona's resolute gaze with a manic sort of apology and ferocity. It's a strange combination, for sure. Moss and smoke lift from the ground as the immolator launches himself at the log bridge.

That's so cool.

Now you've done it! Regos thinks to himself, sweat running down his forehead as he tries to catch his breath. He clutches the ground with his free hand, grabbing soil and moss while trying to do anything he can to launch himself quickly from this position.

Springing to the air, he charges the opposite direction: toward the flaming log. Is the window still there, or has he lost it?

This is so foolish, he assures himself with a grin. You'll never outrun that thing. But maybe you're better at crossing logs than it is.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he looks around frantically for Warboss Kano. He refuses to escape to the other side without him. But that doesn't mean he's slowing down the flight while he checks.

"Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Da..." he mutters as he rushes out of the brush. "Can you stop the bridge?!" He yells to the warboss, interrupting himself, as he launches one of the papayas at the charging warthog--even as he himself continues a collision course with the tusked beast. He figures it's better to crash through an obstacle than try to dodge it.

That elven one may be really upset that I did this, he ponders, but it really isn't a pig anymore.

The young man waits in the bushes for the second bug-man to draw close to the edge of the lava stream, near where the first was bracing the makeshift bridge. "We'll need to brace that bridge, and quickly." he mutters under his breath, as he reaches out to manipulate the fire at the edges of the stream.

He pulls at the flame, trying to mold it as the beak of a giant bird. Ideally, if he can lash out with it and ignite the men that would be perfect. But even short of that, he hopes it would be enough to deter them from crossing and give Kano and Regos a window to exploit.

1st xp... exciting.

"Wait." Regos quietly requests of Kano, with a finger raised as he crouches low and out of view. He tugs lightly at the fern branches in front of him to create a small window where he can continue to observe them and the boar. "Let them finish, then we act quickly." He wants to let the bug-men do the hard work. It's a gamble, but once that bridge is down he has a plan to at the very least scare them off.

With the lava river, there are some flames present as well right, like at the edges of the flow? The plan is to use these flames to either engulf the men when they're finished or at least scare them away from crossing the bridge. But I'll need to wait before taking my gamble for them to knock the tree down.

Regos looks at the lava with a smile, as if the heat and carnage were a welcome thing. He quickly shakes it off however, as he's unsure whether he can bend lava the way he can bend fire. And now probably isn't the time for experimentation.

Likewise, he can't exactly go swinging across vines with the flaming fruits in his hands. Toss them to the other side? Nope. Pocket them? Not a chance. With a huff he races "downstream" of the lava, trying to charge through the brush. It'll take longer, but hopefully there's another option for getting across that's hands-free.

"It should be just up he..." Regos begins, assuring the group that they were close to the spot where he and Pahua had been earlier. Things are looking grim with the new red marks on the trees. Marking something hardly denotes ownership, but the brazen attitude it conveys is nevertheless unsettling. The man is interrupted by the sounds of conflict up ahead.

His comment is cut short and he raises a hand to motion the others to stop, then taps his right earlobe twice accompanied by an inquisitive look on his face. He has no idea who might be in conflict up ahead... perhaps another patrol, maybe local fauna. But he figures it's likely that the bug-men are involved at least on one end. And if he can catch them mid struggle, then that gives him an advantage as far as he's concerned.

With a flick of the wrist, the runic scars that cover his arms light up for a moment, and the green leaf he pulls from a nearby fern ignites.

When you conjure a weapon of pure flame, roll+CON. On a 10+ choose two of the following tags, on a 7-9 choose one. Each attack with the weapon consumes one use.

Fiery, touch, dangerous, thrown, near -- 3 uses

The flames form into what look like small ignited papayas. He quickly motions toward the others and begins to push through the foliage toward the battle, not wanting to miss a potential window. edit: He also tries to keep the papayas from touching anything. No sense starting the festivities early.
Dangerous tag and all, I figured he ought to take some precautions with them?

Feel free to jump in if you wanted to do something beforehand or motion for him to hold. I just figured I'd designate where he was heading in case there weren't objections.

The bearded young man turns his palms up in reply, half smiling with a shrug, as if to indicate that there would be nothing for him to prepare. All of his earthly possessions are either in his pack, or sacrificed to flame.

"Tell me when you are ready..." he adds, with a slight bow. Trying to cover his expression.

As the group takes leave, Regos steps to the forefront as point (unless warboss Kano wishes that position). The young man keeps pushing foliage and underbrush clear of the path as they blaze their trail, trying to release the greenery quickly before it begins to brown or smoke. Certainly nothing would light, especially as green as it all is, but the smell is less than pleasing.

Regos has kept to the outside, as he often does, while Pahua reported on the men they encountered as well as the desecrated elephants. The earthquake has caused a lot of commotion, and the young channeler steps closer to the central fire as Pahua mentions him by name.

With the ground still rumbling from aftershocks, the then man steps forward -- the dark hair atop his head falling like a limp Mohawk to one side, and his beard and mustache flaring to red tips. He seems uncertain of his position within the current circle of men, but not uncertain of himself. His hands are held behind his back, and the fire flares slightly as the man draws closer. "I can show you, if Pahua is forbidden. What do you wish, Warboss Kona?"
