About Rathalan

Rathalan is a human male, slightly below average height, but well-muscled. His most notable feature is a serious of tiger-stripe tattoos going down his arms, legs, and back. In most climates, he wears a mantle and cloak of furs. He can sometimes be blunt or speak without thinking, but is more clever than appearences might indicate.

Rathalan was born to the Moon Tribe of Shoanti barbarians in Varisia. His father was a wanderer from another tribe, who left on a journey to return to his homeland, but was not heard from since. His mother was a shaman of the tribe. Rathalan grew into a fine hunter and warrior, at first, but as he grew, something in his blood stirred, and auguries revealed his lycanthropic heritage. This caused a stir within the tribe, as some believed this to be a good omen for those who hold faith in the moon's power, while others thought of the consequences should he transform and lose control. Amid the uproar, he made peace with his mother and left.

Rathalan wandered for several years working as a mercenary when jobs were available, and living off the land when they were not. After encountering a sect of druids, he began training with them in the hopes of learning to control himself, should the worst come to pass, and while he did not take to all of their teachings, he learned enough that he believes he is not a danger to those around him, and returned to the mercenary life for a time.

He was introduced to the Pathfinder Society by a cleric of Cayden Cailean while celebrating a successful job, and while some of the nuances of the religion escape him, they became good friends. He has since become a member, and sees the Society as a very large, very unusual tribe. He also uses the Society's resources to try and discover more about his ancestry and what it might mean for his future, looking for opportunities to hear legends of shapechanging creatures around the world.
