Pickles, or Pikzug like his mother used to call him, has always had a knack for food. Having a sensitive stomach, which in the case of a goblin only means he can’t eat shards and stones, Pickles was fascinated by taking raw ingredients and making a lovely (and digestible) dish out of it. His mother was the leading alchemist of the Crookedtoe tribe and a trusted adviser to former chieftess Velkik. She used to let Pickles play with her equipment and soon understood that her son hasn’t inherited her scientific aptitude for elixirs and bombs, but he took her ingredients and common food from the market to make some tasty dishes. Especially his pickled cucumbers quickly became a favorite with the Crookedtoes; hence his nickname.
Having lived in the Fangwood of Nirmathas his entire life, it was a huge shock for young Pickles when the Whispering Tyrant rose and with him the undead hordes that turned the heart of Avistan into the Broken Lands. His mother fell along with many of the the Crookedtoes, during the tribes escape. All Pickles has left of his mother is a heavily damaged tome with her formulas and her unique crossbow that she had tinkered with her entire life. After the Crookedtoes have settled in their new home, their respect for Pickles grew by the day as he provided food and nourishment for the entire tribe with the little resources they could gather. Stricken with bad luck, the Crookedtoes’ basement was recently infested by unknown creatures. Not allowing his brand-new pantry to be abandoned, Pickles was the only one brave enough to quickly sneak down into the basement and grabbing a few supplies. He came back alive and even got a glimpse of what was lurking down there. Zusgut was not willing to risk the life of any more Crookedtoes and deployed the help of the Pathfinder’s.
Pickles was in awe when he saw the brave adventurers and how easily they handled the threat. This is what he wanted. He knew his tribe was save in Absalom under Zusgut’s rule, so he asked his king to leave the theater and join the Pathfinders. Zusgut allowed it, hoping he could further improve the good relations with one of Absalom’s big players. A couple days later Pickles was assessed at the Grand Lodge and to his surprise, he was recruited. The Lodge was impressed with Pickles’ knife skills, inconspicuous demeanor and unnoticed movement, and mostly his bravery. They encouraged him to take at look at his mother's heirlooms again, they might prove useful in the field...
