Background:
Phoenix doesn't know exactly where he comes from, but he does know how he was found: floating unconscious around the sun! A passing Sarenrite ship was on it's way to the Burning Archipelago when their sensors picked up a lone body floating impossibly close around the sun. Figuring they would give him a proper funeral, the crew picked the body up, discovering it to be that of a boy about 8 years old. But not only was the body completely unmarred by its time in space, the boy fluttered to life mere moments after being examined!

Shocked by his incredible fortune, the ship took the young boy to the Radiant Cathedral on the Burning Archipelago, where many interview sessions revealed that he could recall being stranded on a ship being tugged towards the Sun, and seeing a magnificent red bird before blacking out. His caretakers believed that the boy was rescued in his hour of need by a powerful phoenix, who granted him some of its powers to allow him a chance to escape. When he demonstrated an ability to generate healing waves of fire, their suspicions seemed to be confirmed and thus dubbed him Phoenix.

Taken in to the church's care and trained in the ways of the Dawnflower, Phoenix proved himself to be a favored asset to the church guardians, even if it came with a massive headache. Headstrong, energetic, and daring, Phoenix learned to use his newfound powers to heal the meak and defend the innocent, turning his fires from waves that burned away mortal wounds to intense miniature suns that he could hurl at danger. But in between his duties, he developed a love for speed, using specially designed space cycles (called "sunbikes") that fed off the heat of the sun to power them. Any chance he got, Phoenix would borrow (or "borrow") these bikes to take joyrides around the sun, enthralled at the intense heat and high speeds. The fact that he didn't need the normal gear to survive in space made him something of a challenge to keep track of, and his antics earned him a last name among his caretakers - "Sunrider".

But Phoenix always expressed a desire to see what lay close to the other stars out there. As much as he loved the church, the Archipelago, and the Sun, he often wondered what the other stars had around them. And even more important to him, was the phoenix that saved his life out there among them? Even if he couldn't meet the one that saved him, which he did and wished to thank properly, he still wanted to meet a real phoenix and learn from it. And lastly, he had an urge to meet his real family. Much as he loved his caretakers in the church, he wanted to know where he came from, who he belonged to before, and most of all, were they alright?

Knowing that his urge to see the stars beyond had an unshakable hold on him, the church insisted that Phoenix join the Starfinder Society, and bring the light of the Dawnflower to the dark corners of the galaxy. It was their hope that in doing so, he might find the answers he sought, and bring him a sense of closing on his past. Although he will greatly miss his home and his church, Phoenix is excited about the prospect of seeing new and fascinating places beyond.
