Backstory:
Ouliette is a red eyed mermaid with fiery red hair. She was brought up in Outsea in the River Kingdoms.
Growing up, she was quite literally the red-headed stepchild of the colony. Bereft of any musical talent whatsoever, she was only commended on her religious knowledge and medical prowess. Most, including herself, assumed that her life was destined for an ordinary one, free of strife but also absent of adventure.
Her life was upended when the Spore War took place. While not directly attacked by Treerazer’s forces, the demonic energy seeped into the water where she lived. Over the course of weeks, Ouliette found herself mutated by the energy. Her hair changed from its natural inky black to an unnatural, alarming scarlet red. Her pupils dilated and changed from black to yellow, forming glowing dots which pierced into the dark. Worse of all, additional webbed, sticky fins sprouted from her tail, useless for underwater propulsion and only useful on land.
Alarmed and seeing this as the last straw, the Council of Generals 'appointed' her as an Outsea envoy, effectively banishing her from the colony. The trauma of her departure left her with a deep-seated rage. Anger bubbled within her against the divine transmutative energies and deities that left her this way. The fear of how magic could change her continued to strike her, to the extent that she feared using her natural abilities to exchange her fins for a pair of legs.
With nowhere to go, Ouliette sought help from the other natives of the nearby Endowhar - the Aquatic Elves. Fortunately for her, at least one elf, Raphael Tobit, was willing to help out. He took her in, finding her knowledge of Warfare, Religion and Medicine useful. She developed a rapport with him and he found themselves sympathetic to Ouliette’s plight. He agreed to build a ship to float themselves to a different land and equip her with the means to defend herself – some curved blade known as the Katana that a land-dweller had irresponsibly dumped into the river.
So Ouliette departed to lands unknown with her companion, Raphael Tobit, hoping to find a new place to call home.
After spending time around allied spellcasters in the Pathfinder Society, Ouliette decided to spend some time meditating with the Kami and Tanuki of Kodomi Village. In doing so, she came to terms with the conditions that afflicted her and came to understand that her rage against the divine was the result of manipulation by the asuras. Ashamed of her previous behaviour and wanting to live in a way that honoured the fallen aquatic victims of the Spore War, she forsook Superstition and embraced the inner rage that came from the unfulfilled Spirits.
With her retraining complete, she pulled off her tail to stand on unsteady legs for the first time in years. She took a few tentative first steps forward before stumbling, instinctively reaching out to Raphael for support. The faithful elf grabbed her hand before she fell.
Edicts: Respect the dead, Pay homage to your ancestors by retaining your tail unless necessary to change it, aid one's neighbor whenever possible
Anathema: Disrespecting corpses or spirits, Aid demonkind unless absolutely necessary, use magic to harm innocents or hoard wealth
To show her resolve, she cut off the vestigal mutated limbs sprouting from her tail, which were physical reminders of how her situation had changed her for the worse.
