For PC on PC combat, I'd probably suggest some randomization. Come up with four arenas (big colleseum, rocky mountain top, small meeting chamber), come up with four random time increments of pre-fight prep time (1 round, 1 minute, 3 rounds) and pre-battle day prep-time (one week, one day) and roll some dice. It'll be a real bugger otherwise to try and make fair conditions... though since no one's a pure wizard, who knows.

Hey Churley; I'd strongly recommend a Google Chrome extension called Lazarus, saves information you enter into text-areas for recovery later. It's brilliant. Probably a Firefox/etc equivalent.

Heh I'm aware, but it suits the character to have him be near-psychotically focused on dragons. No other favored enemies.

Panting, slowly rising from a practiced drill stance, Nat looks over the stricken woman. Clarity suddenly fills him as adrenaline disappears from his system. The last vestiges of his training guiding his movements, he grips the hilt of his blade as its tip begins to rise again in preparation for another blow...

Then he stops, then cleans and sheathes his weapon.

"I... I don't know" he says, clearly more to himself as Valeria can barely hear him over her own cries. "We can find out when we make the surface. Just a little bit further. A little more..." He nods to himself. "A little more."

Looking helplessly at Fidget and Tiknesr, he mechanically walks over to the next door and peers through the keyhole.

Torn between the rats and the mongrelmen at the other end of the corridor, Nat hesitates before pressing his palm against the wall a second time, shooting a glance over past Valeria waiting for any activity. Following his commands, the earth elemental smashes at one of the rats trapped between it and the gigantic demon. "Ruarc, when the rats are done, we need you on the front line here!"

Nat ducks into the other room and settles to the floor, calming as his the well-remembered movements of the ritual wash over him. After a moment, Bart appears, still panting from when he was dismissed, blood partially covering his paws. He grunts and cleans them off on the floor as Nat looks at him.

We have an underground river; see where it went, spirit?

Bart tosses his mane for a moment before nodding. He and Nat rejoin the rest wordlessly, Bart climbing down the rope and landing in the river, letting the current carry him away. He relaxes and holds his breath deeply as his keen eyes peer around.

Nat swiftly backs off and closes the door shut, momentarily white-faced. He cleans off his polearm with the sole of his boot before turning to the rest.

"I... have no idea what foul demonkind spawned that thing, but I say we leave it to rot." He rubs his eyes. "Anyone who says otherwise is braver than I."

Nat nods thoughtfully. "Sword of a great paladin, that letter... this is getting far above our pay grade." He wipes some sweat from his brow and tries to concentrate before shrugging. "One more thing to consider when we make it topside."

He steals a glance at Valeria before turning to Ruarc- "The sword, do you wish to hold onto it until we leave?" and then the ladder- "If down here is cleared, let's head back up."

Nat picks up the dagger, weighs it carefully then cleans it off against the priestess' robes before stowing it away. He leans against the wall for a moment, dry-heaving at the smell.

Discovering the sword, his breath stops for a moment as he examines it, amazed at the craftsmanship- with the smith's eye he learnt from his mother, he judges the grain of the metal, the balance of the weapon, the thinness and thickness of the hilt and blade... beautiful. Afraid to touch it any more, he snaps the case shut and delicately stows it away in his bag before joining the rest.

After checking on Valeria again, he turns to the rest, the note having been passed around. "I... I found the sword. It belongs to 'Yaniel'? Does the name have meaning to anyone here?"
